  • I agree absolutely with the video! And, IMHO, it's not a TRUE World competition if the best are not allowed to compete. Right???

  • Thats a really good run and nice dogs they look nice and they are nice and fast great competorders

    Heather<3

  • hvordan har du det?

  • Ah too bad you can't compete, I like the look of docked tails and if done when they are a few days old it is similar to what we do to poor human boy babies!

  • gez you guys really are knobs. Docked tails aren't natural (in most cases) and i doubt that it's nice for the dog to have its tail cut off. Stop cutting the tails of your dogs and you're allowed to compete, easy as that

If it's natural (like boxers) then they should be allowed to compete.

  • None of us want to cut de tails, but in 1999 we couldnot buy a poodle with a tail. It is a very good law to forbid this. But you can not punnish the dogs from the early days.

  • That's right.

lokaggwow - Boxers don't have a natural bobtail idiot.

  • thanks! by the way this laws are really unfair.. I am training my BC too... let´s see next year.

  • Can anybody tell me please the name of this song? Thanks!!

  • Ibiza from Jesse Garcia, album Disco Latino various dance 2004

  • Hilsen fra Oslo

  • I love that law. Dogs should have tails. America needs to catch up to all the UK and Australia and pass this law. Then people will not be surprised to hear that docked dogs are not allowed in competition, because all dogs will have tails as they deserve!

  • wouw greaaat!

  • That means my Miniature Schnauzer would be banned. :(

  • das ist nicht unfari die hunde sind drauf trainiert es ist aber ein unterschied ob es ihnene spass macht oder nicht!

  • This is realy stupid!!! It is unfair...:(

  • this makes my dog look stupid

  • That was so fun to watch!

  • Wins at a competition where some teams are banned shouldn't be as satisfying to the winners because they didn't meet all competition head on.

  • wow my doggie can barly do the weve poles let allow thes stuff but were gonna take an agility calass this summer so like ya

  • I was refused as a participant. I was selected for my country Belgium. Get a look at the official site of the WC. Every dog with no tail is welcome in your country, but they may not compete.

  • Oh please, docking tails is almost entirely for cosmetic purposes only! Only a tiny minority of routinely cropped puppies become working dogs. Most are just regular pets who use their tails to communicate, and if a lab doesn't need to have his tail cut off to prevent injuries, then why would a cockerspaniel... The rules (that have been around for 7 yrs now) are the only way to stop docking. If you can't take part in any event with a docked dog, you might think again before buying it.

  • I said it before. I am against docking of tails, not against dogs who have their tail docked. If you have a dog, that was born before docking was forbidden, you can not take away the sport you are playing.

My dog was born and docked in 1999 and docking in Norway is forbidden since 2000.

  • What a horrible rule. Whether you're against or for docking and cropping, that fact shouldn't disallow you from competing in a fun-based dog SPORT event. It's sad that those amazing teams (They were so fast!) weren't able to compete because these people can't have an open mind.

  • heyyyyyy mais c Caro et les autre en trin de dansser :p

  • VIVE LA FRANCE CATEGORIE SMMAL A GG :p

  • They've done studies with Boxers (I think it was in Britain) where the dogs were crossbred with Corgis. Within three or four generations they'd come up with Boxers which had no need to be docked and were winning in conformation rings. If the purebred dog world would relax its standards a little we could have tailless working dogs with no docking.

  • thats why i said i can understand if it was done for like happy tail or a medical reason. Docking tails just to make the dog look better is stupid in my opinion

  • I don't mind the docking of tails as it can led to safety what i'm really not for is the whole cutting of the most sensitive part of a 9 week old puppies ear so they stand up! its not allowed here in New Zealand which is great. Don't you think it looks horrible and i have a boxer whos ears are sooo soft and nice not cut

  • What a stupid rule!!! It's not fair to those who have dogs in countries that are actually ALLOWED to have the tails docked and are just there to compete. It's not like the dogs had them docked there, in Hamar, Norway. What a shame! :\

  • see u all in Hamar next week.... yeeha

  • actually in my view tail docking is stupid and only comestically done it helps to control tail docking. If the dog had broke its tail many time or suffers from "happy tail" i would understand and they should let those dogs into the competition but otherwise i think the rule is fine.

  • It is most definitely not only cosmetically done. Take the Australian Shepherd for instance, they dock the tails on them because they are close workers, grip alot, and they work mostly on cattle, if they had a long tail it would have a huge chance of getting stepped on, broken, and would have to be amputated.

  • You tell them! And as far as the docking and cropping of working dog's tails and ears, it serves a purpose for Dobermans, Boxers, and other guard dogs because a docked tail means no one offender can grab a dog while he's attacking, protection property. Same goes for the ear. If a Dobie had drooped ears, it'd be easy to grab his head and keep it from biting. Cropped ears prevent this. If u have a dog for protection, i'd say crop and dock, don't do just for looks.

  • If we crop dog ears to prevent holding them, why don't they crop the ears of german shepherds, who are the most commonly kept police/service dog? Or belgian malinois? Or rottweilers? You'd think with their big erect ears GSDs would have perfect "grab ears".

(Personally I gotta say, if I was attacked by a dog, the ears would be the last things I'd grab... easier to go for the dog's neck and hold it away from you, heheh)

  • Well Mallinois and German Shepherds dont have veryyyy long ears like Dobies, It's just what I know about MY breed, the Doberman cause we bred them for years as schutzhund dogs. And there's a difference from a police dog, and a personal protection dog. I personally don't think GSDs are the best guard dogs. They're only used more cause of Versatility.

  • They're too slow and not as agile.

  • I very much doubt a malinois isn't as fast as dobe, they are extremely agile dogs, where I live they are hands down the most common choice for schutzhund :)

Where I live, cropping has been illegal for about a half a century, and all dogs are still doing their jobs just fine. Same in Britain, where it's been illegal for a whole century now.

  • I never said a malinois was slow, i said a GSD is too slow for my taste. =) And yes, I know cropping has been illegal for that long in certain parts of Europe. My dad was the one with the schutzhund dogs, I merely did Conformation handling as a junior showman, and placed UDX's and OTCh's on the Dobies. My breed is the Border Collie. I have an awesome 2 year old BC who is quite the dog!

  • Have you ever tryed to grab a GSD's Ears? LOL. It isn't very possable. The Doberman has long floppy ears that are much easer to get snagged what ever. Cropping the ears also helps prevent ear infection, because the ears get much better ventalation... I wouldn't recomend trying to grab a GSD/Malinois/Rottweilers neck eather. LOL. If you deside to try it, video it. I would like to know what happens. Maybe.

  • Did you know that a recent study showed that ear infections are the third most common reason for a vet visit in GSDs? If the erect ears are so good you'd think it'd be a much smaller problem, right? If you have a scienfitic study to back up your proof that cropping prevents ear infection I'd like to see it. I can back up mine.

  • The whole argument that you try to grab the ears is just silly in my opinion. A dobermann doesn't have long spaniel ears, come on. If anything, by making them erect you leave long, erect tips to grab, instead of hanging ears close to the body ;) Do you have solid proof of natural ears being a problem, or are you just repeating something someone else has told you to defend cropping?

  • Hm, odd that the comments are up here... These were posted as replies to conradpem below.

  • The Australian Shepherd is actualy a bob-tail breed. They are born with short tails and it's rare for an Aussie to be born with a tail.

  • Aussies are not an entirely bob-tail breed. About 75% of Aussies are born with a full tail. Breeding 2 Aussies with a natural bob tails together can produce birth defects in the offspring. For this reason, ASCA Aussies have tail type recorded on their papers.

I accept docking tails or removing dewclaws at 2-3 days of age for either cosmetic or work purposes. However, I do oppose ALL cropping of ears for non-medical reasons. Cropping ears is very painful and done at a much older age.

  • ear cropping is mostly cosmeticaly done, tail croping is done to prevent injury but must be done at an early age otherwise it would be too painful. When the dogs are that young no one knows where the dog will end up or if they don't need it, so it's done anyways for precaution.

  • The law would be just as bad if it was "democratically" enacted. Otherwise, this is a great video.

  • I know someone who's dog broke his tail like 6 times, if you could prevent that wouldn't you? Letting your dog suffer countless tail injuries is what's really cruel.

  • stupid rules

the dogs don`t need the tail for competitions, ist a rule against who don`t think at same way

  • Well, I don't know if this is true or not, but I certainly think docked or cropped dogs should be banned from competition. If any rules or regulations should be changed, it should be done in countries that still allow these barbaric practices.

  • why should my mutt, who was docked when I adopted him, not be allowed to compete and have fun just the same as any other breed?

  • I am not sure where you live, but in the US, mixed breeds can compete in all of the venues except AKC.

  • where I live my mix breed can compete, I was just trying to prove a point, if tail docking was banned my dog would not be allowed to compete."no tail, no fun"

  • I agree

  • what's cruel is when you let your dog suffer preventable injuries to his tail. In areas where tail docking is banned, tail injuries are the highest, my friend's APTB broke his tail 8 times. Working dogs need to have docked tails to prevent injury, but in order to do it humanely it must be done as puppies (and no it doesn't cause them pain.) and at that age you have no idea if the dog is going to be a working dog or just a pet.

  • Some research though proves that most dogs who have their tail docked are hunting breeds but are only sold as pets. the tail is a good warning if it bristles and stops wagging. . I agreee though to the fact that working and hunting dogs do hurt their tails in some cases. It would be better to have proper surgery to take a dog's tail off.. Did you know that the eqivelent of a puppies tail being cut off is the same pain as a 1 day old baby having their finger twisted off.

  • luckily in Australia tail docking is banned and thank god!

  • wow !

  • I don't think tail docking is cruelty, but it is completly unecessary, so while I don't think it's that bad to make docking and cropping illegal for non-working pets. I think it's completly unfair to not allow dogs who have been docked or croped to compete. Just think of how many docked dogs chances of being adopted dropped drasticaly because of this stupid rule

  • This is NOT true!!! i live in norway and my dog have docked tail, and we go to competition

  • Mmm, interesting. How can you explain that? Did you need to give any proof of medical necessity or something like that?

  • No i didn't need any proof

  • Which may mean that Norway could be in a rather weak position from a legal point of view, if taildocked dogs are refused in the World Championships. One law suit and the whole thing is invalid?

  • "Ban the cropping, not the cropped dogs"

    That's really stupid rule!

  • i think thats real sad... i mean yeah there are organizations that let mutts compete in agility like NADAC and USDAA and UKC BUT if AKC wasnt so strict i think i would like it more since NADAC u cant compete against adults if ur a junor USDAA makes dogs jumnp ridiculously high and UKC ridiculously low... D:

  • Hello

I live in Norway, just 20km from Hamar. I have a poodle with docked tail and i go to competition with here. Do you have any evidence???!!!???

  • Hi Naidihund,

Nice to have a brotherhood in Norway. Do you really compete agility with your poodle in Norway.

When is she born? Is he or she a medium sized poodle, small or large?

  • Yes it is a shame that these dogs cant compete but the fact that these dogs are have their tales cropped is totally unnecessary I agree with the rules that cropping should be banned there is no need for it. This is a democratic decision I think its a fair one cropping is brutal and for our benefit only the dog has no choice in the matter :( I hope cropping will be banned worldwide - You chose to allow your dog to have this brutal mutilation done so live with it.

  • I am also a great defender of banning this unneacable pain. How wrong the breeders were!!

But in 1999 you couldn't buy some breeds with a tail! My dog comes from a shelter home, I never bought a croped dog directly from a breeder.

But it is wrong to ban these dogs from our favourite sport, after more than 8 years.

Ban the cropping, not the cropped dogs.

In my particular case, my dog is cropped for medical reason. Doe we have to kill a dog, because he has a terrible wound?

  • Thank you all for sending me the translations. I already got the text in English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Japanese.

  • It's not fair to ban so many dogs from competition... a Country with that kind of law should never allow a World Championship (although I am completely agree with that kind of law).

I do agility with a Shetland, which would not be banned, but IT'S NOT FAIR.

    XXX from Spain

    Rakel

  • yes my dog is the spaniel breton, Kiara.

    It was her first competition,

That day, we went there to go to an agility competition, but it started to rain and it should be canceled. So,we were going to go home, but, why don't we have fun being a "fashion dog"? So, we went to that copetition, (obviously we prefer agility!) But, being a "fashion dog" we won "best of breed", "best of group", we get to de finals and we won de 5th place! my dog doesn't do that kind of things before!

  • AWESOME!!

look at the people!! your dogs have fans!! ajajaj

    we love agility too

    Lai & Chester

  • Stupid rule :(

  • WOW, how stupid is that rule!

I'll try to send the message to mi agility firends... but I find it a bit difficult because I'm from Argentina, and I speak Spanish and just a bit English. My friends don't speak English and there are some words that I dont understand, but I'll send them the video and comunicate them about that stupid rulee.

We Love Agility!! I'm Nicole , 13 years old and my dogs Kiara and Kasey. Bye!
