Hey girl, enjoyed this vlog as well. To add on to you when you talked about roots, check out the "Willie Lynch" letters. They will give some more insight on how our anciesters were treated. He actually wrote literature on how to break a slave. It will give insight on why we have so much hate within our race. He even stated that if slave owners followed it, it would take a century to reverse the pyshological damage!! Love your work and take care!!
I've seen "Roots" but what touches me is more historically accurate things, like photos from that time. That brings the reality of such a past to me more than a film, personally. Either way, "Roots" is and likely continues to be an eye opener to the past.

I liked what you said about Roots. I saw it over the summer. My 10 yr son wanted to see it. We also rented the Next Generation and Queen.I liked that he got it and saw how it related to him. You need to watch the next generation. Its more uplifting.I hate when people say they can't watch Roots because its about old times. I was raised in a rural area of mostly whites, and truly do not understand the black culture or what is offensive to you. These types of videos help me a lot, and I want you to know I appreciate it. The other day at the mall I went over to the Este'Lauder counter and I was using the eyeshadow testers to do some swatches. Well when the sales lady came over I told her the colors I wanted in my trio and she said "Um before I get those I think you should know they are all $15 each. Do you still want them?" I just looked at her and grabbed my child then went over to the clinique counter instead. Does anyone here think I overreacted or would you have been thinking what I was thinking?
You did not overreact. There was no reason for the salesperson to tell you that the shadows were $15 as if you couldn't afford them. I would have done the same thing, but I would have headed to the Prescriptives counter :-). You don't reward that kind of behavior. I have had similar (and worse) experiences. But you were completely in the right.

To be honest, I think some things people say are not really meant. They won't think whatever they said was offensive but you may do that. Example if I see an asian person I assume they're chinese. Some will get offended by that...they could be Japanese!!. I really don't think the waiter meant anything bad unless his facial expression said otherwise!! and the whole accent thing with the other dude!!....maybe he was trying to be funny??? or maybe he was just plain crazy!

Maybe the waiter on the cruise offers ketchup & hotsauce to everybody who gets a steak? Seems reasonable, I guess. But, I suppose if he didn't do it to anyone else, then yeah, that's really tacky & racist of him. I hate racial assumptions (like I have redhair, so I must be "hot tempered" & like to get drunk on beer every night -- neither's true!)Roots is so heavy. Husband & I watched it last Feb. & no matter how many times I see it, I cry my eyes out. Everybody should see it!

Well try not to get mad at such small things because there are so much bigger things to get upset about. Sometimes when people say things like that it might just be because a lot of people come into that business and ask for those things or do those things in that area. I perform services on women and I can tell when some women are certain ways,ex...diva or not...sometimes I am wrong though, but that's okay. I'm black and I love me.

I would have asked the waiter for some grey poupon instead of ketchup---wit his raggedy butt!!! glad you handled things the way you did---some white people like for us to know they are down, but in turn end up looking like a fool instead.I remember when my mom and dad first saw roots---both of them were so dang mad for a long time after that---I've seen it since I've been grown and it makes me cry hard. I really appreciate your views on racism. I am a white woman, and I am working with a staff of 90% black men, and a community of about 750 black people. I was raised in a rural area of mostly whites, and truly do not understand the black culture or what is offensive to you. These types of videos help me a lot, and I want you to know I appreciate it. Sometimes we are coming from a position of ignorance, not racism.

The other day at the mall I went over to the Este'Lauder counter and I was using the eyeshadow testers to do some swatches. Well when the sales lady came over I told her the colors I wanted in my trio and she said "Um before I get those I think you should know they are all $15 each. Do you still want them?" I just looked at her and grabbed my child then went over to the clinique counter instead. Does anyone here think I overreacted or would you have been thinking what I was thinking?

You did not overreact. There was no reason for the salesperson to tell you that the shadows were $15 as if you couldn't afford them. I would have done the same thing, but I would have headed to the Prescriptives counter :-). You don't reward that kind of behavior. I have had similar (and worse) experiences. But you were completely in the right.

Destin is full of stuck up people. It's very beautiful, but need some diversity. Now I do believe, know that their are some blacks that are stuck up also. I didn't have any "encounters" in Destin, but a lot of turned up noses...........On a lighter note, I love that eye make up!!!

I understand what you mean with racism, my case is a bit different but I still do have a huge problem with it. I'm living in another country now and every time I talk, people say: ''Oh! You're Canadian!'' And I can see their reactions change once they know! First, they ALL repeat what I say and laugh (not funny when you're de 106th to repeat it). Then, since they think that I was living in a forest back there, they talk to me like I'm stupid! And they don't care, I won't be mad, I'm Canadian -_-

You made some interesting points in this video. How did you respond to the condiment question? I don't really like to say, "talking black". I think this feeds our stereotypes and holds us back. I would rather say, "slang or incorrect English". I have a copy of "Roots". It is hard for me to watch. It makes me cry and angers me.
