  • do speed skaters swing arms side to side?

  • about that energy thing at 2:20 ... well maybe i am wrong but i think it is better to cross that center line, because if you do this, you use your core muscles / hip more and by this way you get more energy.

sorry for my rusty english :-)

  • @Commanderblutwurst

    ahm i mean at 2:02 ^^ btw

  • @Commanderblutwurst

If you cross the center line, then your glide foot is directly under your body. This will cause you to be on the outside edge of your glide leg, therefore putting you off balance.

  • @Commanderblutwurst You are correct. What he is teaching is good for runners, but not for skaters. Look at Mike Gartner or Martin St. Louis. They are the model for proper arm movement. Actually, they are models for all proper skating mechanics.

  • Excellent!

  • 2:20 not proper technique! Watch Hall, Stamkos, Tavares, Crosby etc... all have wide stance. Remember, you have to glide and battle for loose pucks! Oh yeah, these players all have one thing in common... #1 picks.

  • @wickstick6

You have to remember that he is telling people who are "learning" to get into a proper habit and it is exaggerated to emphasize the proper stride. I agree in a game it is different, but he's pointing out things out for learning.

  • @flakesfrosted

If they are learning, they should be learning proper technique. Feet should be apart for better balance. Stride width, and stride rate are more important than stride length.

  • @wickstick6 hey man i totally agree with you.. I have always been taught to heel click, but if you look at some of the fasted most ballanced skaters in the nhl they use a wide stride with constant ooutward force. do you have anymore info on this kind of stride... i want to learn it better.. any tips?

  • Thanks! I will use your method when I start teaching^^

  • These are some of the best drills and explained very well. Thanks Guys. I Coach 3 teams and I always post your vids for porper skating. Keep em coming
