I'm always amused by people who go on Youtube to specifically find music they dislike so they can annoy all the fans. It's like... do you realize what a tool you look like? I can't stand a lot of music too, you know what I do? I DONT LISTEN TO IT. Rather than wasting my life pretending to a bunch of strangers on the internet that I'm smarter than a musician I just heard of.
Wow! Now this is going out there in the truest of spirits. Brilliant! I love Dazzleships,; it's my favourite full album of all time and I hate covers of classic songs but he's got the balls and the expertise to pull ofe something very special. Love it!
To be blunt, this doesn't sound good at all. Sound quality sucks. But that aside, it's not just the quality of sound that's not good, it's the compositional work. It's way too simplified, and sets the bar pretty low. If you dig this kind of low-brow 'music', then great, but you should at least know how high the bar is to begin with before you flock to any musician's crowd. That's a major problem with music these days, and the inexperienced youth.
What would you say to someone like me who enjoys the more complex sound of bands like The Pixies and of works like Beethoven's 7th, second movement, but who also appreciates Owen Pallett? I'm not entirely sure why you tell people to know how high the bar is. Music isn't an investment; it's a collection, a catalog. If you dig it, you dig it, and usually you have reasons for it.
What your post tells me, effectively, is that you have absolutely zero empathy for other people's tastes.
It was so long ago I can barely remember! but I'm gonna guess it was the penultimate song of the encore as the Mariah Carey cover was the very last thing. It was a couple of very surprising treats!
I was at his show at the 2007 Bluesfest in Ottawa. I have been going to concerts since I was a kid, and nobody impressed me as much as FF. In all honesty, he made Dylan look tame, and Morrison look downright lifeless.
He responded to people in the audience, talked about the lighting, and the crew backstage, all while drinking a beer. What a cool guy.
owen is just a musical genius i know its not the original but my god it is sure a hell of a lot better no offence to OMD but this lad is just amazingly talented
Is that true? Don't know if your joking? This album was spooky as f*ck but absolutely beautiful and haunting. That violin takes some battering doesn't it? Anyway, if true what you say sounds very interesting, so.. is it true? :)
Don't think Andy would mention him unless he actually did do something together, but a compliment eitherway! Thanks for replying Thewaterboys :).New album I'm guessing will be pop based but I'm hoping for some of the dark side too ;)... eitherway they're together again and that's all good! :)
Plaudits and Kudos to Owen for bringing this music to a new generation. His interpretation has an iconoclastic verve which was very much part and parcel of the original work which spoke to a subculture that embraced it. Well done. "Over decades, now this romance has sustained us all."
It is a pity that the crowd was laughing in the background at first; Crowds always laugh at things they do not understand. Hopefully it gives at least some of them pause to look up the original artists and what is arguably one of the best synth albums of all time:
I think they laugh alittle when OMD did it on Channel4's 'The Tube' so he in good company with the original artists really ;). It's nervous laughther too I think, or even good natured 'this is weird' laughter. Not cruel laughter I think :). Cheers oldschool!
There are funny elements to it... nothing wrong with a little laughter. I think part of the whole problem with great music is people that take it too seriously. Owen's shows are hilarious... I found myself laughing almost constantly at either thinks he was saying or just from the joy of how happy a musician this talented can make me.
I'm speechless! This is brilliant! Dazzle Ships is an avantgarde synthpop masterpiece and Owen's versions are amazing! The way he uses the delay and the violin on top,his vocals are great, what more to say than brilliant! i wish i could see this live! i wonder if "This is Helena" and "International" are coming next! Absolutely magnificent!
I saw Owen two nights ago and he said the night before he played terrible so he had to make it up that night. He did, the show was absolutely perfect. He only started with the abc part for us though.
God damn.
I am speechless.

I assume you have no idea what the original sounds like or what this is about. If you did, you'd realize your comment was ridiculous.

Great. I´m from czech republic (our capital city is PRAGUE) and everytime I hear Radio Prague with czech words:
"Zde Praha, Československé, zahraniční vysílání"
it makes me feel better. Great song, great album, Great group. Good cover version.
Veverka1986 3 years ago
What is the English translation of Radio Prague please? I'm not Czech but it makes me feel better too.

Zde Praha (here´s Prague)
