my OG Droid's screen is scratched. So was my last OG Droid before it got stolen. And the one before that that broke. So, yes, I feel that pounding a key against a screen is slightly different than dragging one across it.
How there are so many ignorant comments I cant even begin to fathom.....oh wait people think JB makes good music yes i can -_- the fact hes hitting a key against the screen is showing how well it is made. It goes beyond what a normal phone really endures, some change in your pocket with a set of keys brushing against it in normal everyday life....if your phone regularly gets hit more than what this guy just showed...stop using your phone as a construction tool...
i thought he was going to scratch around on the screen, as soon as he started banging on the screen i was like "OMG!!! WHY!?" but i am impressed, i had no idea my phones screen was that tough... i remember seeing so many people going around with iphones with large cracks across the screen from being dropped but wow, these screens defeat the purpose of a screen protector huh?
Dragging your keys against, and pounding them are completely different things. Also, are you really pounding the screen, like your trying to go through your phone? Or just letting off when you make contact like a weak punch? Regardless, even a diamond can be scratched by metal, even a key edge. If you where to observe the force at an edge you would see an astounding amount of pressure there. What do you think would happen if you swung a sword at a glass pane? Magic force fields?
The point I'm making is that sharp edges will make scratches. A 'sharp' key is generally not terribly sharp, and from all the 'scratch resistant' videos I've seen a key is generally whats in question. I'd venture you use the edge of a heavy key ring, knife, or better yet, a small irregular pebble. Also, I'd like to see accidental simulated hits, ie sudden hit to the pocket, drop, ext.
why are some of you so interested in scratching the screen? even my cheap dioptric glasses can't be scratched, considering how most of phones are easy to break then this kind of test seems only the right one
Lol, i'm no genius in physics, but i know that hitting something produces way more energy than dragging something across. So, if hitting a screen with a key doesn't scratch it, how would dragging a key be more destructive? It makes no sense.
Hitting it with a small pointed object will produce more force per square millimeter than dragging the same pointed object across the screen. Fact.
@whosdadog lol damn right, the fact that you strike the screen at an angle like that would have much greater chance of producing scratches and or chips in the screen... now im wondering why i bought my screen protector... fuck im taking my screen protector off right now lol, i just now found out my samsung focus has a gorrila glass screen =D very cool, and nice to know! this whole time i have been making sure my phone is the only thing in my pocket so loose change or my keys wont scratch it lol
I love how its called "scratch test" even though its just you beating the shit out of the screen with a key. There is a difference to "scratching" and "beating" you know that right?

I DON'T BELIEVE IT.
I think you are NOT touching the phone with the key, you just pretend to do so.
Otherwise why would you film this from behind your hand?
Nice trick :)

There would be more friction if you dragged the key across the screen.
THATONEKID177 1 year ago
Lightly? No. I want you to drag it across like you were pissed at your phone.
kyleskid 1 year ago 4
@kyleskid And how would that be more beneficial than beating the phone with the key?
whosdadog 1 year ago 9
Yes, please. Try scratching it without beating it.
kyleskid 1 year ago
@kyleskid So you think lightly dragging my key across the surface is going to have more effect than smacking it with my key?

@whosdadog Please try with the thinner steel you can find ,like a razor blade.

@kyleskid Please define the two.
whosdadog 1 year ago
@whosdadog Scratch: incision: a depression scratched or carved into a surface
Beat: hit, knock
That good for you?
kyleskid 1 year ago
@kyleskid Would you prefer I try to scratch it _without_ beating the hell out of it?
whosdadog 1 year ago
@whosdadog Beating- A striking act with repeated blows.
Scratch to rub or tear or mark a surface with something sharp. Being that the droid is scratch proof...lol, I dont think thats all that possible
XImprove 1 year ago
@whosdadog beating is when u start "whacking the dam thing" xD scratching it. u get a knife and claw at it :D:D:D:D:D
