@capitolemiproducer Carol Kaye, Tommy Tedesco on guitars.According to Carol Kaye no special way to produce "wall of sound". Just everybody playing too loud and bleeding over into each others mics.
this song remember me, when i watched "the wonders years" when Kevin and Winni were in a restaurant and then show up Madelein in fron of them , Kevin had whit a puzzled face, this song was in the background, this final was amazing!... i Love this song!
The track (in mono) was used without permission for the opening credits of the Scorcese movie "Mean Streets" - to great effect - definitely the BEST girl group single ever,
With the classic '' dum..dah dum dum '' drum intro , this record is probably the one that defined pop music for many in the early 60s who might otherwise have just been dismissive of it as ' just another fad '.Brian Wilson was listening and credits this song as been a big influence on him to .
Whoever said down below that this isn't about Phil Spector is not paying attention, he created that whole sound (beach boys aside). The voice is not amazing the sound of it is...........................................
@aaronjoeseph Phil is Phil Spector, one of the great record producers of the 60's pop era who created what was then called the "Wall Of Sound", a unique "fuller" sound. He also worked with the Righteous Brothers...listen to "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" by them for more of Spector's work.
@aaronjoeseph I'm sorry, Perhaps you never heard of this thing called ROCK & Roll. Many people haven't. They haven't play any ROCK & Roll in America since Y2K!!! I can understand your PISS IGNORANCE. Perhaps you perfer listening to Easy Listening, Elevator Music or RAP. Asshole!!!
@Armydicked umm well that was rude bro... idont even know what i said. i dont listen to rap or pop or elevator music because all that is crap. its not even considerably music any more. i used to listen to elvis the king of rock & roll? i was raised listening to NOTHING BUT THE OLDIES and country music. everything else i dont really like. oh and whenever ur in the womb ur asshole is the first thing to develop so i guess we all start out as asshole huh? i still dont see how im an asshole. tell me?
I must admit I'm grateful he had the machine to BRING IT TO ME and you... This isn't about Phil, this is about the Ronettes.
That is where the TALENT was, THE RONETTES!
Phil was just another parasite talent agent.
I've been watching since 1961
Ronettes, Shangrilas, Joni Mitchell, Fionna Apple, ENYA, Amy Winehouse, I'm waiting waiting, hungry for the next Icon, not J-Lo, that is truly original.
I can do a thrilling version of RedHouse, note for note, but I'm no Hendrix...
The real question is, DID Sonny consider himself Jived? Did he say "Oh yes Phil I do feel Jived, I hav'nt felt this Jived in years" I've just been thinkin and thinkin about this all day...
Sonny you can consider your self jived.....lol....wow that was kinda a teat, as a major Cher fan i loved the refence and that fact that you can really hear her in the backround in this cut.....=)
That's an offense against the greatest songs of all time, there is no such thing as original stereo because this was RECORDED in Mono. This is fake stereo with added instruments according to Larry Lavine.
@sel2231 What's the matter wih you? Then tell me how this was recorded yourself. Did Larry Lavine who worked with Phil Spector for 20 years say it wrong? You unintelliugent nasty piece of shit, you know nothing about this do you?
@sel2231 Then tell me how to spell intelligent in my language, can you do that? HELL NO, you see not everyone here is american. HOW many languages can you speak you shit outta hell, that has a LOT to do with intelligence I'm telling ya.
@M3town33 Well i can speak French as well and i'm actually not american dip shit. Any way what would you know about intelligence, you cant even spell.
I'm a 36 years old guy who likes all sorts of music, from motown to tool, primus, nirvana, ween, prince, electro, dubstep, but this song is my favorite song ever.
Spector was a genius... Songs can evoke such memories. I have fond memories of a Saturday afternoon, in a Pizza Hut in Edinburgh when I hear this song..
The 60's was the greatest music decade ever.Things like this (not the greatest song ever but surely a classic) in the early-mid 60's then the British Invasion in the mid-late 60's.
where did you find this? or did you put it together yourself? johnreynolds has posted the instrumental and the backing vocals, but i've never been able to find the acapella track of ronnie singing or the string section
@mazdaishpahan I used to listen to this song and this version yrs ago, i had it on a Phil Spector album, but cnat for the life of me rememebr the name of the album, maybe google it ?..
@skoobi25 yes i looked it up, there are several bootleg albums with the stereo version but most of them are ripped from the vinyl album. but this version is special because it has the studio technicians talking at the beginning. so whoever did it had access to the orginal tapes
@jimihendrixfan2008 Amy Winehouse had her own take on it, bigger and bolder but she did state that the Ronettes were the inspiration for her hairstyle.
Well, since I have NOT heard all the takes, I must say, so far this IS the best take and much better than the final recording, IMHO, as well, thanks!!
Cher was involved with the backup vocals and I also believe Sonny was also singing along in this. This is why Sonny's name is mentioned at the end of the song, I believe he was also singing along "jive". Sonny & Cher also did other backup vocals for Phil Spector.
@Supergungun YouTube advertisers would start complaining if I started e-mailing downloads of all of the music I have posted...I hope you understand...Nocaro
More details please. It is commonly known that Phil Spector over-dubbed Ronnie's lead on to already recorded instrument tracks. In short, the singing and the instruments were recorded on separate days in separate places. So how is is that we have this 25t-take recording of everyone together?
It is quite possible although I would have no way of knowing that Spector would play pre-recorded instrumental tracks in the studio while they were singing...just one possibility anyway.

@PaulDePace take 25 is in reference to the instrumental only. ronnie's lead, the backing vocals, and the string section were all recorded on different tapes on different days and mixed together finally in mono
