@wassimshomali Thanks a lot, I did this vid not long after a figured how to scratch myself. I still do, do vids but I'm a dad to two beautiful girls now so hence I don't really upload many vids as being a good dad is a full time job after working a full day. So decks mainly collect dust, might do a new vid soon so pls check me other vids too! Peace Hectic
so if we want to scratch, we need 2 tracks on both decks right? and we play the 1st deck and the 2nd deck for scratching right? do we have to put 2 same tracks or a different track? and how come when i try to scratch, it doesnt sound like scratching a vinyl. For example I was scratching a techno song, and theres like beat sounds while im scratching... sorry If you cant understand or if im too much of a beginner in this..

just had a boy 2 months ago love it im 31 bro played the breaks and electro but bennn gettin back into it havin to play hip hop im workin on my techniques thx for the help bro im right handed thinking bout switcin over what you think
The track is 'Billie Jean' (instrumental) by Micheal Jackson and what I believe to be 'It's been a long time' by Eric B. & Rakim - some old school stuff right there.
Thanks, since becoming a dad i aint had chance to upload any more vids....although every weekend i think about it, hopefully this weekend will finally get round to doing the miitary scratch tutorial
a little distortion.. in my left ear..i little distortion cant you hear? haha nah idk maybe its my headphone but its davids song..im dumb. anywho nice video man. very nice paced tutorial. that was a sic beat near the end yo!
cheers man....i shoulda posted some more vids by now...but i got a baby daughter who is taking 24/7 of my time....but been teaching some moves to her so hopefully soon me and the youngest dj side kick eva will be posting a new vid!
vinyl records wear down due to how many times they're played, scratching is simply playing that certian part over and over, so yes it will ruin it, or rather wear it out faster, but all vinyl wears out eventually
i learnt purely from youtube and just spending hours practicing, also i find that if you teach yourself something you get your own unique perspective of it that really helps develop your own style :) don't bother with actual face to face lessons. waste of time
well man if you go for a budget price pair of decks, it will determine if you really do wanna mix. its not a cheap hobby. So maybe save up for some technics or vestaxs...?
well i got some more tutorials i wanna get posted on youtube but i aint got no internet at the moment which is proper annoying. will hopefuilly post some new material soon.
first off thank for subscribing....well basic equipment for beginners would be belt drive turntables, see if you actually wanna DJ or not without spending a load on decks. Just please dont go the digital route and buy some CD decks...as 5yr olds can mix with CD decks there like fisher price toys just for kids no skill involved as buttons do all the work. Keep it real keep it vinyl. hectic
hello mate, have you got any vids of you djing? the site im getting together is like youtube but for dj's only so its got its on videos on there.. have a look at it and let me know what you think... i cant write the whole name as youtube will delete the link... its w w w . yourdjdemo . c o m
yes i got vids of me dj'in but like said quite happy with jus having my stuff n youtube, and would take offence people stealing MY material to use on there own sites.....if you wanna pay me some cash im sure i could do some tutorials and mix vids but for nothing your asking to much
they told me im not original enough? go figure theres only one of me! but hey...im jus gonna have to make a few more vids like this and give it another go, cos i could proper do with the cash init!
it did take me a long time before i could even beat match.....if you get cheap decks, it will let you know if you wanna do mixing or not, but please as mentioned above DONT BUY CD DECKS THERE FOR LITTLE KIDS WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO MIX
hey I started on vinyl decks and I could mix! and i much prefer CD decks! there are so much more things CD decks enable you to do. I have technics SLDZ1200s now ... I think your scratchin is unreal! I really want to be able to do it. Hopefully I can learn and perform how to scratch on my SLDZs!
well thanks for watching man, its all about practise, will be uploading a new scratch tutorial this weekend, so keep an eye out on my channel. peace hectic
what a rediculous, stupid comment. Goes to show how narrow minded some dj's can be. I can mix and scratch just as well on cdj's as i can vinyl. If they were for little kids who cant mix the majority of the worlds top dj's wouldnt be using them would they
hahahaha fact or not...CD decks have buttons you can match the BPM with...? FACT....therefore all you do is move the crossfader. Once again I think CD decks are for little kids who cant mix, because all you do is press a button to match the time.....where is the skill....? There is no.....my 10 month old baby could use CD decks!
Have you actually even used a pair of cdj's??? Most DON'T have auto mic buttons and you DO still have to beat match manually on most FACT. And cdj's provide for a more entertaing mix, you can loop, loop dividers, can cue quicker, use hot starts.
late reply due to me not having no internet. but you just proved my point with ur last comment...lots of buttons you can press to do the work 4 u. no skill involved. so in my opinion they are still fisher price decks 4 lill kids...i used cd decks once didnt like um as no skill involved
You're missing the point. i'll use Gammer for example, he generally only mixes on cdj's, can you honestly say he has no skill, he has bundles more skill than me and i dare say you also. Back on topic it doesnt matter what medium you use to mix on its about hte crowd you play to at the end of the day and making them enjoy the tunes you're playing. Or do you think they stand on the dance floor saying "This dj isnt playing vinyl, he must be talentless and have no skills, I think i'll sit down!!??"
well since most of the DJs in clubs started using CD decks I did stand there on the dance floor thinking "well this DJ can't mix" i see what your saying....but CD mixing is lazy and thats what im getting at, anyone can CDJ, but not everyone can DJ
Very well put, and i totally agree, turntable djing is a true art form, Many try it but not that many truly master it. It is truly the way djing was meant to be done! Truth be told!
I've been looking to get into mixing for a while and have been reading up on it loads over the past few months.
From where I stand I think that using something like Scratch Live has much more advantages then Vinyl.
You don't have to carry around mountains of decks, your music is available with a click of a button & you can concentrate more on the music rather then worrying about finding your next tune.
But beat matching is important & it should be learnt
hi, great vid.... could you try uploading it to my new site yourdjdemo . c o m just to test because im having probs with the uploading.. ive not launched the site yet so you will be the 1st on it so u can pick any username... email me thru the site to admin and let me kno wot happens... cheers richie

Superb vid!!! To the point, no bullshitting around. Dude u know what u preach!!! And i salute u for that! Pls do bring out more videos of this sort and if possible a tut on scratching with midi controllers like the hercules mk2 or rmx ,etc
alright man thanks for the bigup. did try to keep this video to the point, explaining the simple techniques needed to produce certain scratch sounds, anyways man i dont own any midi controllers so sadly cannot do a vid on this.
thanks, will try to upload some more vids when i get the chance to get on my decks. jus proper busy at the mo. anyways thans for watching. what do you wanna see more tutorials of? hecticuk
thanks man, took 6 months of practise then i did this vid to help others, and it seems to have worked, keeping things basic. mainly did this tutoria as found other Djs did a great job of scratching in their tutorials but not a lot of explaining how they were doing it, apart from pointing with a finger....anyways thanks for watching and glad you found this useful vid. jus shame i dont get commision init.....doh!
very good what were the two records called again? i don't know how to spell the one you mentioned you were scratching with. please comment back . thanks :)
thanks glad this vid helped you out. Please check out my video response to this, to see a bit more scratch action to some quicker beats. Peace Hecticuk
thanks for watching...hope this helps out if you starting scratching or basically if you can;t scratch. Please check the video response to see these skills im using here put to good use.
Ok I have a question. When I scratch it doesn't make that distinct of a sound. When I bought my needles the former owner told me my needles were not scratching needles. Do I need scratching needles to get the prominent sound you are getting?
well as joe has mentioned turning down the bass and the treble up helps. As explained if you have a x-fader switch set this to a tight setting so sound happens as soon as the fader is like 1mm open..also depends if you got belt drive or direct drive decks. Look into buying some butter rugs, they help, make sure your vinyl hole aint to tight on the deck spindle, and make sure u using a scratch record. I owns shure M44-7s which aint to expensive to purchase and they do stick to the record.Hecticuk
needles help but they are not neccessary your mixer quality is really where you are going to get your clean sound and practice you will be able to better re produce scratches that you hear others do. So get a scratch mixer with a adjustable crossfader vestax is good denon is better and rane mixers are the best for scratching so needles m447's a good mixer and lots of practice
nice tutorial very helpful.... just a few quesions. that "scratch" record u have what exactly is it? do they sell "scratch" records just to scratch on? and when ur scratching is the deck actively spinning? or is stopped?
the scratch record im using is the superseal one by qbert....but basically every scratch record u can buy has the "ahhh" sample im using. Scratch records normally contain different scratch samples as well as beat samples. When I am scratching the deck is spinning. Hope this answers your questions. Peace hecticuk
W0W dude! Thanks alot! This Tutorial has been the best so far..I will post a video response so that you can "asses" my noob skillz that I acquired from watching this (omg...LOL) Thanks again!
Well im really glad this vid inspired you to get scratching,,,thanks for watching. The main thing is practise. Check out my new vids for some new moves/combos peace hecticuk
hey can you help me out, im confused on how you get the other song on there with the scratching, and how you mixed those two songs (billie jean + i dont know the name) do they come already remixed on another vinyl? and how much do these sets cost? thank you. great tutorial by the way.
ok the billie jean is a remix. so that is just on one vinyl. then the other vinyl is a "scratch" vinyl. Then basically use the x-fader as an on/off switch to bring in the scratch sound. i hope this clears things up. hecticuk
Thanks. Well this was my first attempt at doing a tutorial....and this was done over a year ago when i just learnt how to scratch.....so basically practise is the key man....keep scratching, and one day you will get to the level you wanna dreamt at being! Trust. Hecticuk
if your local record shop aint got a copy of this you can always get this on ebay. But to be honest the "ahhh" sample is like on every scratch record there is. if your just starting out look for the skipless scratch records....peace hecticuk
thanks man, did a new vid the other night, check it out to see how much faster my scratching has got by practising these basic moves. trust practise is key! Hectic
cheers mate, done this like over a year ago now so me scratching and that has improved a lot. i did this not long after learning how to scratch, and hopefully this will help you out on your scratching to. Peace Hectic
the record is a white label, someone has named the tune in the comments on this video....as for best vinyls to scratch to....well you can scratch to any genre of music your into. As for what scratch records...would recommend any skipless scratch record.
well brand new was £440 per deck, so thats £880. However I got the pair for £500 from good 'ol ebay. so jus search for some second hand technic 1210's
wicked...as always bro......can i get a copy of that eric b mash up homie

Doesn't this ruin the grooving?
nolanb21 3 years ago
only if you use crap needles. and does help if you purchase a 'scratch' record to do your scratching on, not any random vinyl

Ok I have a question. When I scratch it doesn't make that distinct of a sound. When I bought my needles the former owner told me my needles were not scratching needles. Do I need scratching needles to get the prominent sound you are getting?

Turn your treble up and bass down
Joe328vinyl 3 years ago
and get some shure M44-7s
Joe328vinyl 3 years ago
well as joe has mentioned turning down the bass and the treble up helps.

So get a scratch mixer with a adjustable crossfader vestax is good denon is better and rane mixers are the best for scratching so needles m447's a good mixer and lots of practice
djscrilla06 3 years ago
nice tutorial very helpful.... just a few quesions. that "scratch" record u have what exactly is it? do they sell "scratch" records just to scratch on? and when ur scratching is the deck actively spinning? or is stopped?
bigsteve0126 3 years ago
the scratch record im using is the superseal one by qbert....but basically every scratch record u can buy has the "ahhh" sample im using. Scratch records normally contain different scratch samples as well as beat samples. When I am scratching the deck is spinning. Hope this answers your questions. Peace hecticuk

yes
HecticUK 3 years ago
hey can you help me out, im confused on how you get the other song on there with the scratching, and how you mixed those two songs (billie jean + i dont know the name) do they come already remixed on another vinyl? and how much do these sets cost? thank you. great tutorial by the way.
BonfireSnow 3 years ago
ok the billie jean is a remix. so that is just on one vinyl. then the other vinyl is a "scratch" vinyl. Then basically use the x-fader as an on/off switch to bring in the scratch sound. i hope this clears things up. hecticuk
HecticUK 3 years ago
cool tut man, helps clear a lot o things up! gunna order my super seal vinyl now :D

wivkid 3 years ago
if your local record shop aint got a copy of this you can always get this on ebay. But to be honest the "ahhh" sample is like on every scratch record there is. if your just starting out look for the skipless scratch records....peace hecticuk

what vinyl wuz the one you were playing on the left side? whats the best vinyls to scratch to?
famousduran12345 3 years ago
the record is a white label, someone has named the tune in the comments on this video....as for best vinyls to scratch to....well you can scratch to any genre of music your into. As for what scratch records...would recommend any skipless scratch record.
HecticUK 3 years ago
would it matter on the mixer or get one like the one u have
famousduran12345 3 years ago
how much does that turnable cost?
EMandMORE 3 years ago
well brand new was £440 per deck, so thats £880. However I got the pair for £500 from good 'ol ebay. so jus search for some second hand technic 1210's
HecticUK 3 years ago
