According to the discography on Di Meolas homepage there was a live RTF from the 1983 tour and on it are The Overture, Tris the Phantom, No Mystery and The Romantic Warrior.
But this album is apparently long out of print - I´ve never seen it unfortunately.
Yup. Light Years indeed is a very cool album. Chick is a very versatile composer, he can write everything from smooth to f*****ng awesome technical pieces without sacrificing his skills. He's truly a God.
And he has a lot of unreleased compositions, like the Overture, in which he uses only on live shows for his bands and never release it officially on CD.
Thank you very much avs002 for bringning their music alive.
Now that the 2008 tour is over, HOPEFULLY for Australia and elsewhere in 2009 (but how does that sit with the proposed Corea & McLaughlin Quintet?), do you want some EXCELLENT AUDIO?
Look, even the BEST videos posted here barely match.
i bought this cd off a guy on ebay and the sound quality is totally appalling. This is not a criticism but the quality of THIS track is also way below par. Was this gig never officially recorded ?? It is never listed in the RTF discographies and i wondered if the only versions out there are bootleg recordings ??
In my RTF live collection, there's a Japanese recording (heck, it's on jazzfusion you-know-where). Excellent audio, but it's only one new song and the performance is dispirited.
Yeh, i just read your 'info notes'. i am not sure if this is the EXACT same version (of "Overture") as on the cd i bought ('RTF Reunion 1983'), i need to cross-reference them. This version is better quality than on my cd version.
Sorry for lack of action here - I've been making my John McLaughlin stuff.
I may only make more RTF stuff if/when an Australian tour is announced (for 2009 or sooner). Otherwise, I'm just providing more of what you've got that we haven't.
ACTUALLY... To match audio (last 10 min. of Jester/Tyrant from 2008-06-09 Vancouver) I tried grabbing video from YouTubes of the 2008 tour - but I couldn't do it (ANY HELP HERE?). I can convert the flv's to avi's, but need some (tour) incentive for it.
Awesome, can you post the other 2 new pieces they played on that tour, "The Priests" and "The Phantom" ? I remeber the Berkeley Community Theater show in '83, Song to the Pharoah King was the "extended" version :-)

Chick's Elektric Band played this as an opening for their show at the GRP Super Live '87 video.
manuelergcruz 3 years ago
Well, GRP fans should find that pretty exciting. Thanks!
I also note, from before, that the Elektric Bnad used it as an opener on for that tour. So I d***loaded a concert. Yeah, that's right too!
As for TEB itself, I now think it just highlights the perpetually uneasy marriage between music and computers.
Then again, I used to think "Light Years" was a really cool album when it first came out... so what would I know?

Wow. Nice stuff. I don't care about the sound quality, just the overall vibe, and it's great. Missed this tour, darn!

I don't mind the viewings dropping, but it's a shame to watch the ratings on this fall - just because RTF's 2008 tour is over.

P.S. I HAVE MY TICKETS FOR THE McLAUGHLIN COREA QUINTET - 20 Feb, 2009 - Sydney Opera House!!!

The other two pieces don't fit into the "10 minute timeframe" here. Want some audio from the current tour?
avs002 3 years ago
Can you break 'em up into chunks ;-) ? I was front row in SF at the current tour, but if you have new tunes post those too, hehe.
pythonflying 3 years ago
Thanks! That is great!
This tune was played on the 1987 Electric Band Tour also as opening.
