I used to run up into Chicago to see him play at "The wise fools pub"". He was playing this tune in those days. I tried to copy all his licks. He has so much soul with a mix of funk and jazz &blues. He was numero uno when I was studying jazz guitar.

He was also good friends with George Benson and I caught them playing together once.

There's track from Phils very early LP's, possibly the one here shown on screen from 1968. The track was called "Electrik Head"...Wow, absolutely mindblowing solo guitar played with multiple delay. Proves that the best music was from LONG ago.

apotok: Yes , this pic is great. I used to have the 1977 album this track came from..i think it was just called "Phil Upchurch"..had a nice instrumental version of Deniece Williams' "Free". It never was issued on CD. Thanks for this memory.
