They put Sanjaya through because hollywood round that year was all messed up. Thats why in season 7 they got rid of group day. The producers had problems with the microphones and band. Thats something I know cuz my cousin actually made it to hollywood round that year but got cut before group day. The judges basically had to assumme with some of the contestants like Sanjaya. Turns out they assumed wrong so the producers kind of made a joke out of it. Whatever it gained thousands of more viewers:/

He doesnt classify people by how much talent they have, he plays with people who have nice personalities. And Joe Perry didnt have anything to gain from this, except making people watching the finale happy, and that should be the mindset of most people in the world. Still if Joe Perry wasnt paid to do this, he would probably still do it because he is a nice cool guy.

I'm going to get a lot of heat over this but I thought this was one of Idol's best performance. Like it or not, every singer out there wants a piece of the Idol pie. Joe Perry was excellent. One of the original and best guitar rockers. Loved Sanjaya rocker vibe. He ain't that good, but this was a good performance.

It wasn't "early" in the season. Making it to Top 7 is pretty darn good on that show, considering one must beat out thousands of hopefuls to make it that far. And look what a phenomenon he already was, even before being voted off. And even at that, he was only "voted off" due to the combined efforts of Simon Cowell and all the "haters" joining forces. AI had to "lose" him to realize what they had in him; ratings plummeted 9% after his departure (and this is a verified fact, not just hearsay).
