  • Greg, where are you? TVB dramas aren't the same without you! You're one of my favourite TVB actors. I miss seeing you play Gwailo roles in TVB dramas.

  • AH!!! the classic Japanese enka "北酒場"!!!

  • total respect for gregory...he is one of a kind! I hope he will continue in HK entertainment for many many years.

  • Gregory Rivers is awesome. Support u always.

  • Bravo! Wow.....Hats off to him. Embracing another culture in a foreign country in pursuit of his dreams and ideals. I salute you.

  • Yeah but you will never see a chinese man given the same chance in the west even if he can sing well in english.

  • Asians are given lots of chances in the west. Depends on your academic and the skills you have. USA offers more chances compared to Canada.

But Asian people have opened lots of business in North America including the most famous ATI.

    HDSharp you are just racist.

  • sounds cheesy like a bad Vegas act, but I favourited it anyway

  • i love u~Gregory Rivers

  • Greg, when will I see you again in TVB drama series? I don't think any other Cantonese-speaking white actors are as versatile as you. You're a very good actor, not just a Gwai-lo who speaks our language. You deserve big roles tailormade for you. I don't understand why TVB failed to see your value to them.

  • why, that is because there are other foreign people in TVB that are Asian and from North America. There are also other white actors in TVB who are rising up.

  • Yes, I know. Kiu Bo Bo is a great Cantonese speaker and he's also very funny but his roles and Greg's roles are not interchangeable. I've seen the other Cantonese-speaking Caucasian actor (American). His Cantonese is also very good but somehow I think his roles are likely to be limited. Greg is more versatile. He can be a priest, a senior police officer, a doctor, a villain and lots more and every role he plays is convincing.

  • that is because greg has a longer time at TVB. He graduated from the actor's studio and has been quite a long time. TVB didnt put him as a main character role, which he should have got, if not main at least a major support character. However, he only seems to get minor roles.

  • How many fcuking chinese men do you see in western TVs?? prick!

  • Quite a lot. A lot asian people work in the hollywood industry. Asian actors may not be as famous in the industry like Jackie Chan is, but that doesnt conclude the fact you dont see asian working in films.

Just because you dont hear about them or see them in the wide category of film doesnt mean they arent there.

Your assumption is stupid. I can name at least several right of the bat of asian director and actor in hollywood like

John Woo, Chow Yuen Fat, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Andrew Ng, etc..

  • there are alot more~~ agree with yuna238. There are so many asians ("CHINESE") in small productions, as well some TV series. A little too racist here HDsharp.

They are not as famous, but they exist...they are just pursuing THEIR happiness, much like Gregory Rivers... sacrifacing the opportunity of being a doctor testifies his passion for singing and acting.

  • Goes to show you that you know absolutely nothing about Asian American issues. Asians are not portrayed in a positive manner in Hollywood, or haven't you noticed.

  • oh really? If asians arent portrayed a positive image, then bruce lee, jet li, jackie chan, or other asian actors would already get kicked out from hollywood.

The reason hollywood still keeps asian actors and flim directors like john woo means hollywood need asian people to run certain films in martial arts.

  • A lot of asian people work behind the scenes not in front. Such people like John woo who directed the famous Mission Impossible and Scooby Doo.

Also the famous martial artist Yuen Wo Ping was the choreographer for the entire Matrix series.

"Goes to show that i know absolutely nothing", thats a pathetic effort made by someone trying to show they know more when you cant even come up with simple examples to rebuttle.

  • Withou asian people, Hollywood wont survive if they want their movies to be popular in asia without the knowledge from choreographers or asian actors. Second, Asians arent portrayed in a negative manner. Anyone in North America who wishes to earn lots of money will always do business with Chinese.

Only ignorants like you, racist, and uneducated people in North America will give negative view about Chinese.

  • I dont think white people is stupid enough to throw away money when the oppurtunity is there in front of them.

    Lastly, your argument fails.

If you say asian people are viewed in a negative manner, so is white people viewed in a negative manner in Asia. Just because few white person in HK like Gregory is successful in chinese flim, the number is equal compared to those of asians in North America.

Your agurment fails to even make a logic sense.

  • Its you lolaw who havnt noticed the changing tides.

Jackie Chan all in all in his career in hollywood has brought more money and popularity out of hollywood more than a whole bunch of white actors.

Even if you say hollywood is using asian people as tools for profit, arent we all using one another to gain benefits?

Go home kid and use that brain of yours. You definitely fail in logic class.

  • Just so you know Asian Americans not Asians consider Jackie Chan as useless sellout who only knows how to spread "Kung Fu" limiting roles for Asian American actors. Jackie Chan's gains come at the price of spreading countless stereotypes. At least Gregory Rivers gets portrayed positively in HK and gets put in normal roles, the same can't be said for roles Asian American characters get. As far as I'm concerned Jackie Chan can't hold a candle to John Cho.

  • That argument of yours is as useless as it is. Gregory is famous is only because he is one of the fewest white guy in asian film industries.

The same can be said about Jackie Chan or Jet Lee.

Asian Americans consider Jackie Chan useless? What are you trying to portray?? Wasnt the original comment about white people and Asians not Asians Americans.

Dont trial or try to drag the argument in a different direction.

I know several Asian North Americans myself and they dont detest Jackie Chan.

  • As far as your argument goes, you have not given it a thorough thought.

Have you ever consider the amount of Asian Americans consider asian actors as sellout?? You are only giving a general conclusion which is highly flawed.

  • Second, if you dont know about Asian Americans, minority of them regard themselves as part of white people group instead of Asians. For the fact they think just because they live in North America and can speak english, they regard themselves as upper societal class when clearly other white people just look at them as simply Asians.

Also, your argument works backwards. Do you think people in Asia care about the attitudes of the "high mighty" Asian americans?

  • Its a common misconception by people like you who think Asian American are viewing asian actors as useless sellout.

White people or Asian North American actors are much viewed in the same way in Asia.

Also, Asian American is a large group. Not all Asian Americans viewed Asians as negative. Only the ignorants and stupids of those groups do.

  • Greg has been in many doctors role. If you didnt know lottiesand, Greg graduated at an Australian university and he a student of the medical science faculty. He only has 1 yr left until he get his medical degree, but came from a poor background and had no money left for the last yr. So he went to HK for opportunities. Greg is now an english teacher at a high school and part timer @ TVB.

  • Thanks for the information. I knew he didn't finish medical school in Australia. I didn't know he was teaching English now. Is it a HK school? I haven't seen him in TVB drama series for ages so I thought he has quitted. I know because of that racial thing, a non-Chinese actor may not always get really important roles in Chinese drama series but I think Greg deserves better. TVB should offer him some more important roles, major support ones, as you said.

  • yes Greg is teaching english at a HK high school. I dont know which one though. But I cant imagine the student learning english though. The HK govt keeps changing the langauges. Just a few years ago HK change english classes to learning Chinese now its back to english. Its a fucked up education system.

  • i doubt coming froma poor background has anything to do with it. Besides, being poor in Australia does not constitue poverty. 20 years ago education would have been free and if you are from a lower income family, you would get financial support from the Aust govt. Greg's choice for moving to HK was his interest in chinese and the entertainment industry.

  • djonutube im just rephrasing what he said in an interview in a HK show. He said himself. He went to university and almost graduated with a medical science degree. But he said his family was running low on finance and decided to go to HK to push his luck.

  • LOL

he is literally in every single TVB drama I've watched so far (that's a lot... trust me, I lost count long time ago).

He's the only white TVB actor so whenever TVB dramas need some white role, he always fills in~ it's so funny seeing him in all kinds of dramas ^__^

  • I think he's left TVB. I no longer see him. TVB now got another white actor who's American. Still I think Greg is the best and irreplaceble. He's a very good actor and every role he acted was very convincing.

  • XOXO

  • Great singing! Cantonese is great too!

  • wow, nice! what's the name of this song?

  • This Cantoneses speaking Aussie hails from Katoomba NSW. By the way is this a love song he's singing ? It's pretty cool.

  • is he an aussie?

  • read the title

  • couldn't tell lol

  • Wow Gregory, your really rock!!

  • His voice and singing technic is better than most of the local new singer.

    Bravo!

  • Which part of Australia was he from? He's been in Hong Kong for two decades or so. Gregory Rivers is one of the most successful Anglo-Saxon actors in H.K. today, constantly acting in Hong Kong's premier T.V. network - TVB (majority being minor to major supporting roles, but according to what I know, he'd never took a leading role as yet in a TVB drama series) and, occasionally in H.K. films. I wish him continuing success.

  • this guy is awesome :)

  • Great Cantonese song by a white Aussie! :o)

  • hows he a nerd??..

  • If I'm not mistaken, besides being an actor, he's also a computer programmer. According to wikipedia, he is an active member of the Mac circle in Hong Kong. I guess that's nerdy enough (not a bad thing) :).

  • I'm not surprised that he's into nerdy things like computer programming. He's academically bright. He used to go to Medical school but decided to become an actor instead.

  • Greg may be a nerd but only nerds have the intelligence to speak a difficult second language so well.

  • wow he's AUSSIE?? he's soooo much better at canto than alota cantos

  • LOL! Cantos from where? New York. Pity he's such a nerd. We need some cool westerners to speak Cantonese.

  • Nerd? Just coz he's got no bling-bling and baseball cap on? BTW, this is real singing with emotion and rhythm!

Your Cantonese rocks (better than many foreign-born Chinese)! Way to go, Greg!

  • WOW, this is incredible. His cantonese is better than many local folks!!!!

  • dammit! i want ot be like him

  • YES! I love this guy! He's so awesome! I didn't know he was Autralian! I always thought he was English (I have a hard time telling his accent when he speaks English), but he's awesome!

  • Finally I find out this guy's English name. I have seen him for years on Chinese television and the movies. Not only a good actor and cantonese speaker, but also a good singer.

  • omg i know him...i have some tvb series with him in it
