Looks like he had surgery or something similar. The lines are too perfect and so a doctor would have had to do it. The cat might have been in a fight and needed a couple of stitches or some other condition that required intervention. Its really no big deal. The hair should grow back normally.

The vet had to operate on a nasty abscess - it looked worse when he had drips hanging out! He's back to normal now though :o)
