@ichooselife00 How can you justify this? I don't even know who this girl is, but she is clearly wrong, she can't forgive somebody of their sins against God, on Jesus can do that. We can forgive people here on earth, but we can't wash away their sins against a Thrice Holy God, can we? I think not. Do you think what she has done is ok, Biblical?
Mr jojo. When u become God and shed your sinless blood on the cross for us than u can earn your right to personally save us!!!! Your arrogance astounds me.
@djr3000 who says he didn't repent before he was in that situation? she only said that she didn't know if he knew God...but if God is all powerful and He does what he pleases then why would it be alarming if God gives the ability to forgive his sins as a daughter and heir to the deep things of God? it is unusual but so were the words of Jesus saying to eat His flesh and drink His blood.
@MrGerardo2007 oh but "you must drink my blood and eat my flesh" was better for you? cuz those are the Words of Christ Himself...so why would this be hard to believe? God does as He so pleases and if it pleased Him to give His daughter the responsibility that He usually carries, then He can make it so
@MrJojosmalls If this was ok and ordained by God, then it would have CLEARLY been in the Scriptures, but it's not. This girl has no idea what she's doing and should never have done so. Bethel church, even in the Bible, quickly became apostate. When Elijah sought for the Lord to take him, he stopped at Bethel, but God did not go there.
Naming a church Bethel is a mistake.
However, Jesus, after he returned, gave the Holy Spirit to his disciples and told them, "whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained." John 20:23
I fault her for being at Bethel. But, I have nothing to say against the forgiving.
I believe you totally misunderstood my words- (by the way I read the NLT, KJV and Message bibles...when you forgive others you are forgiven as well-Luke 11:14-15, Please, if you will, explain to me how what she did was wrong and if you would be so kind as to offer me a few biblical texts I would greatly appriciate your efforts and time to educate me in this matter, Blessings of peace and joy to you.
She said she didnt know if the man was saved or that his sins were forgiven. God doesnt need her to say to the man that his sins are forgiven, God can do this with out her voicing it. For all we know God was conferming to the man his current status. but also, remeber this, if you forgive others, they are forgiven. She could also say I forgive you for the sins you commited against others- if she is a christian and a member of the BODY OF CHRIST she has the right to do this on behalf of others.
this is fully heretical david... and would scare the pants off me if i was in any way involved in this movement :( In Mrk. 2:7 - But that u may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. Earlier the pharisees fume over Jesus forgiving sins, saying "only God can forgive sins"... which is of course true. Regardless of what this lady may think, if that man didn't know Christ and did not repent then he's in hell b/c HE needed to ask for forgiveness...
John 20:19-23 Jesus reappears to the disciples after the resurrection and breathes the Holy Spirit upon them and with that anointing pronounces that if they forgive sins, the sins are forgiven. "Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." A whole lot of people are missing the point.
I doubt that the church is apostate, because if we are all apostate, we would deny Jesus. But the fact is that we don't. You don't and I don't. We haven't turned from what we believe in, so we're not apostate. But if you believe the church is stuck being one of the Frozen Chosen, then you're right. We need to shift our focus outside of the church and onto the millions of people that are hurting everyday. That's what would make God happy!
Oh yeah, I believe in the Jesus of Buddhism then, right? No wait, the Jesus of Hinduism, right? Yup. That's the one. Definitely. Ha...! Very good joke. I just can't stop laughing.
Oh yeah, and fyi, the guy wasn't dead. He was still alive. Just thought I should tell you that.
Hey, but for real though, bro, I'm praying for you, okay?
And thank you, truly. In the same way the Pharisees accused Jesus of being against the Word, so do you accuse me. I can only expect it. But thanks for letting me know I'm on the right track.
Why would the devil allow a sin to be forgiven? Why would he even lie to try and convince someone that they are forgiven? Why would he, the father of lies, tell the truth? Because the truth is we are forgiven. The devil wants people to think that there is no hope of forgiveness. Does God want that? Heck no! He wants everyone to know His forgiveness, so why would He send Jesus? To keep people from Him? No. To get people to Him! Forgiveness is available for anyone!
As far as your statement regarding walking away from his WIFE (not mistress, they're married now) and being just, he got back up. He had the faith to keep fighting. That's just and righteous enough for me. You know, at least he didn't stay down and give up after he fell. Praise God for that! When one rejoices, we all rejoice!
lol. Yeah, the way we've gone back and forth, it sure seems that way. I daresay it would be kinda hard to find a video regarding Bethel that didn't have Todd Bentley on the comment list. lol. We really love that guy, don't we? We just can't stop talking about him. lol.
Ok, so God didn't consider Bathsheba to be David's wife? Is that what you're telling me. That's not correct.
2 Samuel 12:24 "Then David comforted his wife, Bathsheba..."
Wait a second! God inspired the Bible, right? And Bathsheba was considered David's wife. So basically, God recognized Bathsheba, David's mistress, as his wife. So if God is the same, yesterday, today and forever, then he recongizes Jessa as TB's wife. So if God recognizes Jessa as TB's wife, why don't you?
Did you read all of 2 Samuel? Last time I checked, he was still king, after all of the sin that he committed. AND he was still considered a man after God's own heart. You don't know Todd Bentley's heart.
And if he were to go back to his wife and children that would be adultery, again, right? More divorce! God hates divorce remember? So really, he's fine where he's at.
Did he do something he knows he shouldn't have? Yes. Should we punish him for getting back up? No.
David lusted, committed adultery, got HIS mistress pregnant, murdered a man so he could be justified in the eyes of men, and HE was God's anointed one, and king. Who was worse?
I can't say that he wasn't because only God sees the attitudes of the heart.
If you're referring to his fall, then my response is "Look at David."
If you're referring to his ministry, Jesus healed on the Sabbath, and people didn't like that.
And I believe that all doctrine must be soundly based on the Word of God, yes. I'll concede that the prophetic movement has had some fakers and liars, but God still uses the prophetic today.
Hmm... you may be right. But don't I have the mind of Christ?
Show me scripture that says I don't.
Show me scriputre that forgiving sins is wrong.
I don't believe that the Jesus inside of me that tells me to forgive my neighbor, would not forgive someone, if we forgive them. Explain to me why that is wrong.
People have said, "Ultimately, the sin is against God." But, if God is on the inside of us, then why isn't it His place to forgive them from His temple- US?
Many times the Lord has told me to communicate this same truth to individuals...you never know what the individual is praying or thinking. Perhaps they are struggling with believing they are forgiven and your affirmation confirms it to them so that they can be at peace!!!!! Watch the way you speak about the mysterious ways of the Spirit--you and I are not to stand in judgment of his ways. Men led of the Spirit often come off as bizarre to those who are not. The DAY will bring this to light.
You have no idea what you're talking about. This NOT Scriptural, if the Bible doesn't say we can do this, then we can't, period. I'm not standing in judgment of "His ways", I'm testing this by Scripture, like we're told to do. You, however, are not testing this by Scripture, but by your fallen, wicked, sinful self. If the Lord "told you to do this" then it's not the Lord of the Bible, it's a different spirit.
The penalty that I was referring to was ourselves not being forgiven.
My thought is this: God is what is in us telling us to forgive someone anyways, right? So if God is telling us TO forgive, how can we not have some authority to forgive sin and know that God Himself forgives, too? Once again, this is merely a thought on the matter.
A thought: Forgiveness is offered to those who admit they need it, so the only time someone wouldn't get it is if they didn't admit they needed it.
I haven't seen any other verses saying that we CAN forgive sins and have them forgiven of God. But if this verse is interpreted the way that I think He meant it, then that would explain why there was such a severe penalty for not forgiving someone's sins. This thought is one of things that I could defend as a move of Holy Spirit, but I wouldn't teach it. Maybe I'll do some word study and find out for myself.
Until I find overwhelming "2-3 witness" contradiction, I won't discredit what she was saying. But until I find overwhelming "2-3 witness" support, I won't teach it either. But I will most definitely share my thoughts on the matter.
You're right. If we go by natural understanding, then we don't have God's understanding. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts...
That's where Holy Spirit helps us. He reveals things to us that in our human understanding, we cannot understand.
I do that. The statements about John 20:23 were merely a splurge of thoughts that I had at that time. The problem with youtube is the word limit. I have a tremendous thought, and yet not enough room to put all my thoughts down at once.
Conclusion: Just as Jesus forgave sins of people He hadn't died for yet, (Mark 2), so we have been given the same authority, BUT as far as I can see, only if we have received and are led and directed by the Spirit of Truth, that is, the Holy Spirit. Why? Those that have received the Holy Spirit and are led and directed by Him, will be able to forgive sins, because they follow His leading. And does Jesus ever not WANT to forgive someone?
The reasoning behind the first conclusive statement comes from the fact that Jesus was baptized and was filled with the Holy Spirit. If you look in the first verse in Luke 4, you'll see that Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost (vs. 1). That's where Mark 2 comes into play. It took place after Jesus was baptized in the Jordan river.
On the surface, we can see if we forgive them, that means that they are forgiven of us, right? Okay, but that's just on the surface. What lies below the surface? If you look at that particular verse in context, you'll see that in the previous verse, the apostles received the Holy Spirit. The verse goes on to say (AMP) that as they were led and directed by Holy Spirit... get it? Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus. He takes from what is His. (con't).
Jesus often said things that were way below the surface. So below the surface in fact, that He would have to spell it out, and even when it did, it didn't always make sense. So, what are we to conclude? We must look deeper if we are to understand what Jesus was saying.
So we look at John 20:23. Obviously, Jesus is telling us that if we forgive sins, they are forgiven, and if we don't forgive, they're not forgiven. So, let's examine this. Jesus came to earth to die for our salvation. (con't).
One of the things that I have seen on this comment list is something regarding John 20:23. If you look in the Amplified Bible, that same verse starts off, "[Now that you have received the Holy Spirit, and as you are LED and DIRECTED by Him]" (emphasis noted) and the rest of the verse follows what everyone else has been saying. All this means is that in her life, Holy Spirit is free to move.
I'm not trying to prove a point but rather to examine this scripture more thoroughly.
Whoa!!! That's deep!! And that's John 20:23. We're His ambassadors, right? So if this is true, then we should act with His will in mind. Of course, forgiveness is one of those things. The hard bit to swallow is that if we don't forgive, we won't be forgiven either. But if we do forgive, we are forgiven!! Jesus is so COOL!!!!
ok, can you please stop trying to make it look like Bethel people think they can forgive sins.. that's not what they believe... they believe Jesus paid for sin and rose again, conquering death and that the forgiveness of sins is because of His blood. I think what she's talking about (even though this clip is only a minute) is that at this guy's dying, there was a supernatural compassion from the Father that came to her and because this guy probably couldn't talk, she probably was praying for him
In Jewish culture at in Jesus' time, when a boy became a man, his father would run out into the market place and yell, "This is my son whom I'm well pleased." He'd declare his son is now on an equal level with him in his business, any one that deals with the son is dealing with the father.
God said when Jesus was water baptized, "This is my Son whom I'm well pleased."
We alike, having the Spirit of Christ in us are adopted sons. We are the ambassadors of heaven, we deal on behalf of God.
Well, every Christian has the same Spirit inside of them that Jesus had inside of Him. We have the infinite Spirit inside of us and if we forgive according to who we are and our identity as sons of God, co-heirs with Christ who rule in heavenly places, that person is forgiven.
Besides, God wants to forgive everyone of every sin in this age or the next. He loves every equally, His grace and mercy are extended to everyone, more to those who need more, and less to those who've sinned less.
What did Jesus mean when He said this? "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." John 20:23
Only God can forgive personal sins, not people. THe Bible clearly states, that if we confess with our mouths, that He is faithful to forgive us of our unrighteousness. The only power of forgiving someone is if they sinned personally against us. People are becoming more and more phyco everybody and making God into their own Image. What has happen to real Christianity? Bill Johnson's false. And everybody well known is basicly false these days and are now following new age beliefs! How sick!
i think Jesus said exactly what he meant. you are doing the "adding to, and taking away" that the Word warns about with your "learned" theological reasonings... The wisdom of man is FOOLISHNESS to God...
John 20:23 "whosover sins ye remit they are remitted unto them, and whosoever sins ye retain they are retained"
Ya'll wanna tell me what jesus meant when he gave the holy spirit to the disciples and told them about the "un-heard of" authority they have been given?
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH EXPERIENCES!!!! :O Jesus said, you search the scriptures for in them you THINK you have life, but these are they that testify of me! = all scriptural principle is to lead you to an experience with HIM!
John 20:23 is with regard to the witness and proclamation of The Gospel of Christ to those who have ears to hear, and believe and repent of their sin (directly to God through Jesus Christ - the only mediator).
John 20:23 is, of course, the erroneous anchor of Roman Catholicism i.e. priest and confession of sin.
'[Now having received the Holy Spirit, and being [a]led and directed by Him] if you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of anyone, they are retained."
We need to pray for this girl that her eye will be opened to the truth. That just goes to show you the amount of Catholicism that is in today "evangelical" church.
Mar 2:7 "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Mar 2:8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?
Mar 2:9 "Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'?
"Ridiculous, spooky-church story." Her words, not mine. Undoubtedly, this deceived young lady has been taught a typical, misinterpretation of John 20:23.
I think I'm going to have to blog about this one.
Thanks, brother, for posting this--even though it is very sad and disturbing.
Acts 10:43

It says in Scripture that:
'How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?' Romans 10:14 (NIV).
You can pray for someone to be saved, but you can't make that 'happen'
for the individual.
Let me just say, I'm not here to hate on what Bethel Church and Bill and his team are doing.
The Holy Spirit I believe is present in their ministry.
Some people will view things differently theologically and that will cause some to be uncomfortable, that's why the body of Christ is diverse.

dude, that romans 10 scripture is talking about people who try to call on God who dont believe in him, it has nothing to do with forgiving of sins

MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you actually do consider his relationship to be marriage, but to say that God doesn't, that's a little low.
BUT maybe I'M the one that's not understanding.
Show me something other than what Jesus said about adultery that shows that God doesn't consider this relationship "marriage."
Honestly, I don't think God had anything to say about invalidating marriages in the Bible, so I would let God handle this when TB faces God.

lol. Yeah, the way we've gone back and forth, it sure seems that way. I daresay it would be kinda hard to find a video regarding Bethel that didn't have Todd Bentley on the comment list. lol. We really love that guy, don't we? We just can't stop talking about him. lol.
MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
Proverbs 24:16
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
So, basically, because Todd Bentley is rising up again, he is just in God's eyes. Why is he not just in your eyes? God forgives him, why don't you?
MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
No.
MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
David lusted, committed adultery, got HIS mistress pregnant, murdered a man so he could be justified in the eyes of men, and HE was God's anointed one, and king. Who was worse?

Don't materials cost money? Unless you have a private sheep herd that produces cotton for you all the time.
And the scripture you're looking for is John 20:23.
MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
Thank you for your love, though, bro/sis.
MtelH 2 years ago
@Anheir2Histhrone
Hmm... you may be right.
MtelH 2 years ago
John 20 v 23
if you forgive sins, they are forgiven.
d021281 2 years ago
No, no man can forgive someone's sins against God. You're twisting that Scripture.
raideragent 2 years ago
Many times the Lord has told me to communicate this same truth to individuals...you never know what the individual is praying or thinking. Perhaps they are struggling with believing they are forgiven and your affirmation confirms it to them so that they can be at peace!!!!! Watch the way you speak about the mysterious ways of the Spirit--you and I are not to stand in judgment of his ways. Men led of the Spirit often come off as bizarre to those who are not. The DAY will bring this to light.
awakeningstudentmin 2 years ago
You have no idea what you're talking about. This NOT Scriptural, if the Bible doesn't say we can do this, then we can't, period. I'm not standing in judgment of "His ways", I'm testing this by Scripture, like we're told to do. You, however, are not testing this by Scripture, but by your fallen, wicked, sinful self. If the Lord "told you to do this" then it's not the Lord of the Bible, it's a different spirit.
raideragent 2 years ago
The penalty that I was referring to was ourselves not being forgiven.
My thought is this: God is what is in us telling us to forgive someone anyways, right? So if God is telling us TO forgive, how can we not have some authority to forgive sin and know that God Himself forgives, too? Once again, this is merely a thought on the matter.
A thought: Forgiveness is offered to those who admit they need it, so the only time someone wouldn't get it is if they didn't admit they needed it.
MtelH 2 years ago
I haven't seen any other verses saying that we CAN forgive sins and have them forgiven of God. But if this verse is interpreted the way that I think He meant it, then that would explain why there was such a severe penalty for not forgiving someone's sins. This thought is one of things that I could defend as a move of Holy Spirit, but I wouldn't teach it. Maybe I'll do some word study and find out for myself.
MtelH 2 years ago
Until I find overwhelming "2-3 witness" contradiction, I won't discredit what she was saying. But until I find overwhelming "2-3 witness" support, I won't teach it either. But I will most definitely share my thoughts on the matter.
MtelH 2 years ago
You're right. If we go by natural understanding, then we don't have God's understanding. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts...
That's where Holy Spirit helps us. He reveals things to us that in our human understanding, we cannot understand.
I do that. The statements about John 20:23 were merely a splurge of thoughts that I had at that time. The problem with youtube is the word limit. I have a tremendous thought, and yet not enough room to put all my thoughts down at once.
MtelH 2 years ago
Conclusion: Just as Jesus forgave sins of people He hadn't died for yet, (Mark 2), so we have been given the same authority, BUT as far as I can see, only if we have received and are led and directed by the Spirit of Truth, that is, the Holy Spirit. Why? Those that have received the Holy Spirit and are led and directed by Him, will be able to forgive sins, because they follow His leading. And does Jesus ever not WANT to forgive someone?
MtelH 2 years ago
The reasoning behind the first conclusive statement comes from the fact that Jesus was baptized and was filled with the Holy Spirit. If you look in the first verse in Luke 4, you'll see that Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost (vs. 1). That's where Mark 2 comes into play. It took place after Jesus was baptized in the Jordan river.
MtelH 2 years ago
Forgiveness of sins belongs to Jesus, true, BUT Holy Spirit,
sent to represent and act on Jesus' behalf) John 14:16 AMP,
and who will not speak His own message, John 16:13
will reveal to us what He is saying to us. John 16:13
John 16:15 goes on to say that the thingst that belong to Jesus, He leaves to Holy Spirit.
(con't).
MtelH 2 years ago
On the surface, we can see if we forgive them, that means that they are forgiven of us, right? Okay, but that's just on the surface. What lies below the surface? If you look at that particular verse in context, you'll see that in the previous verse, the apostles received the Holy Spirit. The verse goes on to say (AMP) that as they were led and directed by Holy Spirit... get it? Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus. He takes from what is His. (con't).
MtelH 2 years ago
Jesus often said things that were way below the surface. So below the surface in fact, that He would have to spell it out, and even when it did, it didn't always make sense. So, what are we to conclude? We must look deeper if we are to understand what Jesus was saying.
So we look at John 20:23. Obviously, Jesus is telling us that if we forgive sins, they are forgiven, and if we don't forgive, they're not forgiven. So, let's examine this. Jesus came to earth to die for our salvation. (con't).
MtelH 2 years ago
One of the things that I have seen on this comment list is something regarding John 20:23. If you look in the Amplified Bible, that same verse starts off, "[Now that you have received the Holy Spirit, and as you are LED and DIRECTED by Him]" (emphasis noted) and the rest of the verse follows what everyone else has been saying. All this means is that in her life, Holy Spirit is free to move.
I'm not trying to prove a point but rather to examine this scripture more thoroughly.
MtelH 2 years ago

MtelH 2 years ago
ok, can you please stop trying to make it look like Bethel people think they can forgive sins.. that's not what they believe... they believe Jesus paid for sin and rose again, conquering death and that the forgiveness of sins is because of His blood.

Jameslockhart8 2 years ago
Well, every Christian has the same Spirit inside of them that Jesus had inside of Him. We have the infinite Spirit inside of us and if we forgive according to who we are and our identity as sons of God, co-heirs with Christ who rule in heavenly places, that person is forgiven.
Besides, God wants to forgive everyone of every sin in this age or the next. He loves every equally, His grace and mercy are extended to everyone, more to those who need more, and less to those who've sinned less.
Jameslockhart8 2 years ago

How sick!

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH EXPERIENCES!!!! :O Jesus said, you search the scriptures for in them you THINK you have life, but these are they that testify of me! = all scriptural principle is to lead you to an experience with HIM!

@75Christian92

John 20:23 in AMP:
'[Now having received the Holy Spirit, and being [a]led and directed by Him] if you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of anyone, they are retained."
Sounds to me like it's biblical.
