...each time i hear this work, my eyes water...i am not even Irish. I once had a book of Irish fairy tales. It was thick as a brick. after several stories i closed the book and had the blues for a couple days.....so sad. I loved it....but gave it away without reading any more...
great tune , the recital doesnt work though . I assume ye heard that van morrison song , with (i think with durcan ) reciting . nice novelty to do at a gig . sound wise the two voices are too close together . they battle for attention .Its a constant tug o war between the 2 voices. ye can only listen to one at a time . try putting effects or reverb on the recital to make it sound distant and seperate maybe . just my opinion
@olliephelan thanks for your thoughts, it has certainly divided opinion which I would rather have achieved then a tepid response. On the cd the sound is slightly different as we had the option of adding reverb etc... however it is an experimental cd a project we were both up for and some work better than others. Just so happens you're in the not for me category.
@mrstephenjamessmith No not at all , Its VERY good , I just think that one needs adjustment . (everything can be made better ) Its very intense (and it should be , given the poem sept 13 )when you say you get something different each time , i think thats the effect of the voices being at the same level , so they josstle for your attention . The reason im saying this is that i think it could be much improved with just a little "tweaking" . have ye heard that van song ?
@olliephelan Sorry slightly mistook you then, there is a different mix on the cd, plus reverb and panning, it also has some flute. In truth though it is not my favourite on the album but it was the poem that sparked it for us. On review said we basically murder Raglan Road another that it was the finest thing they ever hear and moved them to tears, also in truth we don't fully understand what we created. Not heard Van the Mans tune have you a link?
WOW , saying ye murdered raglan road IS a very good review . Thats almost blasphemy (lol ) ......Id have to check ( with my bro ) about the van song ..i think it might have been on "enlightenment " . and im pretty certain it was paul durcan ,Durcan just recites each line as van sings it . He has an extremely harsh high voice , Its NOT good. But it would be worth finding, so you could hear that youve done a better job than van and durcan .
@olliephelan It is a hard listen, but one of the benifits is if you put the work in the song / poem can be heard in multipul fashions, so each time you listen you listen anew, Or so some seem to think.
great song..but terrible idea to present it as crosstalk...a waste of two talents or else too much performance art reality... playing gentle music in Irish city pubs.
@VLArray thanks for your thoughts, we have found it divides opinion, thankfully most verge on liking it, but those that don't really don't. Which I must profess I am happy with, art should stir emotions and not just a tepid response!
@wanchopper Cheers buddy, we do as it happens, it is on the album 'Arise and Go!' we are launching it next week. There is an iTunes link up above if you want it. Also we will have a video for that coming out in the new year. Thanks again! Keep it lit. S
Just beautiful...Just brilliant!..You Irish really know how to express your sensitive side and kick ass at the same time lol...This reminds me of my Irish Australian grandfather who passed away last year...Miss you papa...I was cruisin in my nana's car and popped on one of his old tapes...Totally reminds of that...Well done...Very poetic...
@DAZEOFTHESTONED thanks so much! glad to hear it brought back memories, us Irish are a mad bucnh but we have a passion for words tis true. I hope the tape still speaks to you as before! Keep it lit! SJS
@mrstephenjamessmith I liked this so much I had to watch and comment again...This might seem like a cocky question but I asure you it's not...Stephen in your opinion...Why is romantic Ireland dead and gone?..Seriously would like to know what you think lol...
@MarkPhelan1 your wish is our comand! we are actually doing a gig this Monday in Downes bar as part of The Imagine Arts Festival and The Brownbread Mixtape. See you there horse!
