Circumcision started as a cultural thing. Not everyone has it done, but both this practice and ear cropping I guess you can say doesn't have to be done, both have reasons that would make it beneficial to be done, ie less prone to infections, even though it's not important either way. Both are done when young. I'm sure if you were to ask anyone if it hurt them to get circumcised & if they remembered it, they would say no. And with dogs, they typically use local anesthetics.

@MissMogitha well, i was told they do it for guard dogs too so its harder for an intruder to grab their ears and hold them back, as per doberman....etc im considering it because its like removing an ear lobe and doesnt affect the dogs performance, docking the tail however i dislike as it tends to put them into a wider off balance stance and makes swimming more difficult

I'm a proud owner of a Brindle Pit Bull Terrier myself and the way that dog was sitting all calm and stuff, if he was a fighter he would of at least bared his teeth at anyone who came near him. No this is a well behaved dog. He would have scars on him too. Pit Bull Terriers are very well behaved social dogs. I hate that everyone gives them a stereotype of being this mean breed. Every dog has mean in them if they are mistreated and sheltered.
