You seem to understand some aspects of the EU and either don't know, or are ignoring many others. I'll try to put this as simply as possible. Say for example Australia and India can import everything the need for $1million from their alliances in Asia and they can sell all their exports worldwide for $2million, clearly their economies will get stronger.
I am training to be a barrister so the study of EU law is of great importance. You could say exactly the same of the EU. In fact, Australia, India and the ilk would be better off in the long term trading with the EU thanks to the strength of the euro, the lack of tariffs & duties plus the single market. Both the EU and the Commonwelath are expanding. Ultimately the paths of the organisations will converge (or collide). Joining forces would be more beneficial for both organisations.

You will find that the UK deoends upon foriegn trade, both inside and outside the EU. The Commonwealth is still a big trading partner with the UK as is the USA and Far Eastern nations. It is not advantageous to do so. The EU cannot be ignored, it is a very big trading bloc.

You seem to understand some aspects of the EU and either don't know, or are ignoring many others. I'll try to put this as simply as possible. Say for example Australia and India can import everything the need for $1million from their alliances in Asia and they can sell all their exports worldwide for $2million, clearly their economies will get stronger.

I am training to be a barrister so the study of EU law is of great importance. You could say exactly the same of the EU. In fact, Australia, India and the ilk would be better off in the long term trading with the EU thanks to the strength of the euro, the lack of tariffs & duties plus the single market. Both the EU and the Commonwelath are expanding. Ultimately the paths of the organisations will converge (or collide). Joining forces would be more beneficial for both organisations.

However if they were to join then the amount they could sell their exports for would decrease, and Australia would be forced to spend more on importing then if they remained in Asia. There is a very big difference between a nation right next to Europe, whose economy doesn't depend so strongly on trade, who already trade mostly with thoughs nations joining the EU then a country on the other side of the world, with an export based economy, with stronger trading parterners outside of europe joining. You will find that the UK deoends upon foriegn trade, both inside and outside the EU. The Commonwealth is still a big trading partner with the UK as is the USA and Far Eastern nations. We are not confined to just trading with the EU. This would be fatal to the UK economy. This is the same with Australia. She cannot just trade with a small number of nations on the Pacific Rim. It is not advantageous to do so. The EU cannot be ignored, it is a very big trading bloc.

Yes, a nation within the EU is free to trade with parties outside the EU. Yes, Australia, the UK and India all trade with the EU. However, parties within the EU must trade a certain percentage within the bloc, and those trade will make the producing nation less then if they were outside the bloc. Joininh holds no benefits. We do not have to sell at a lower price, we are simply not allowed to be uncompetitive and/or exhorbitant. Ultimately, the EU and Commonwealth will converge. The commonwealth won't become a economic alliance, because few of the nations are significant enough to benefit other nations, and most of them already have economic agreements. A British Company is not as effected by the EU's agreements as an isolated and distant Australia would be, also Britian is not an export based economy. I never said nations with economies that aren't the significant shouldn't be part of either the EU or the commonwealth. Listen closely now: Europe is geographically connected (for the most part) so trade, the main bulk of many economies, is easier, meaning that nations, whether large or small, benefit. The commonwealth is spread out over almost every continent, bloc trading between these nations is going to be near impossible, espesially given the same size of some of the independant economies.

If they joined the EU, they would have to sell their products, tax free, in europe, which would cost say, 1.5million, and would have to imort from within the EU as well, which would cost, say 2.5million. Ipso Facto, their economy is not as strong.
