Wow, this is simply incredible, amazing job. Its hard to think of just how much detail is put into these 3, the last one was especially amazing. I was just wondering do you still make your models and dioramas or have you gotten bored of it all now?:)
@CaptKrone99 That was very kind of you to say so - thank you. Yes I still build them. In fact I am currently working on another Normandy diorama. If you go to my uploads you can see the ones I have posted, around 10 I think. Please forgive the Market Garden one - it's not very good (early work)Thanks again, Beetstreet
Oh good, I'll be looking forward to hopefully seeing a video of it soon! Another quick question though, do you enter these into competitions or do you you keep them for yourself, sorry for all the questions.
@CaptKrone99 Did you get the chance to watch my other diorama movies? What do you think? To answer your question - no I haven't entered any them in a competition. I really did think they were that good nor stand a chance of winning. There are far better than mine out there. Beetstreet
@beetstreet4 Yes i did watch them and again I'm amazed. They are all great and i especially love your 'Welcome home' diorama, the detail and atmosphere that is held in it is great. You've inspired me to make my own diorama but i know it will never turn out as good as any of these! haha!
@stuttonclose Sorry about the delay in responding. The cost was over $1000 US to build all three, not the cheapest hobbies. As for building the trenches, go to my Eastern Front diorama and it shows how I built the retaining walls, the principle is the same. Hope that helps, Beetstreet
@SoSolidPlaya It's by, I believe now out of business, Ultimate Soldier (21st Century Toys) and has been retired for years. You might find one on EBay or on-line.
@beetstreet4 these are great!!!!!!!really like doing stuff like this and ive seen alot of set ups but this is perfect and respects to your grandparents.
@MajoChovanec Hope I didn't misunderstand the question. There are three seperate dioramas in this video. Each diorama took about three to four months to build. I can now build the diorama faster but it is actually taking me longer, as I now redo the tanks and am painting some of my own figures. Thanks for the compliment, beetstreet
@iwantzpikelz12 The vehicles are Unimax Forces Of Valor. They are pre-built plastic and metal in 1/32nd scale. I have taken a pause on biuilding dioramas until winter and have been re-painting and detailing Forces Of Valor vehicles. So for I have done a StuG III (2nd Das Reich, Normandy, 1944), King Tiger (Waffen SS 501st, Ardennes, 1944), Jagpanther (559th Panzerjager, Ardennes, 1944) and a Panther (2nd Das Reich, Vienna, 1945). Thanks for your interest, Beetstreet
hey beetstreet4 i also build dioramas im working on a omaha beach diorama. i use a mixture of 21st century and forces of valor. anyway your dioramas are grrreeeaatt! i love your work. keep it up.
@CRACKPOTATOE Okay you did have me confused by the comment but now I understand what you were seeing. The "spray", and now I look at it - it does look like spray, is actually just tall bunches of wild grass. The soldiers are arriving already wounded. As for the flaws, these are some of my first dioramas, there is key flaws in each one, some minor and some major. Every time I look at them, I just want to redo them. The 101st one I already scrapped. Beetstreet
@matrin2 The Tiger diorama and the Jagdpanther Diorama are exclusively Forces Of Valor. The Flak 88 Diorama is a blend of Forces Of Valor, 21st Century and some Dragon figures thrown in for good measure - a diorama soup.
@trainedWWIIsoldier Greetings from Canada. Thank you for the kind words. Theses dioramas were some of my first and are a bit weak. I will be posting soon a a diorama I just finished - 21st Panzer DAK, North Africa, 1943. My Grandfather was one of the first British soldiers in Holland (Motorcycle Advanced Recon, British Army). We are lucky not to have experienced such a war first hand and have the peace we do.
i am hoping to try to find a cheap 1/35 scale german & allies mortar stets as well as a german command post, some cheap german and allies tank sets if u can help please let me know!
@XxZomBieEaTfLeShxX I would try EBay and search for 21st Century or Ultimate Soldier. Soon the price on both will go up since the comapny has closed and they will become less available. I may list some on EBay myself in the next month, since I no longer use them. Hope that helps, Beetstreet
@manny123kobom I do all my dioramas in 1/32nd scale (with some 1/35th mixed in). I prefer 1/32 because you can achieve far greater detail (some may debate this). The disadvantage of 1/32 is two fold: 1. The cost (be prepared to spend between $50 - $100 per square foot). 2, The size. The diorama in this video with the Tiger I and the Shermans is 8 feet long and 4 foot wide!!!! Still, I continue to this evening to build 1/32nd scale dioramas (I'm working on a DAK one). Hope that helps, Beetstreet
@irule1797 I recommend checking out Woodland Scenics. They are normally for model railroading but have some really good items for dioramas. You can also refer to Build-A-Rama, they are very good. I do build some of my own trees but the "how" is my secret - sorry. Beetstreet
@irule1797 For all three was over $1000.00 US dollars. With time, practice and building most things myself, the cost has come down since. These were some of my first. Beetstreet
I bought my halftrack and my flak 88 online. Forces of valor prices are SKYROCKETING now, so they are hard to find cheap. I make homeade diorama setups for F.O.V. Accesories and craft store supplies. It's the cheapest, and best way to do it.
@TheNerfdude2 For finding cheaper Forces Of Valor, I really recommend EBay. The prices for last years line of Forces Of Valor went up 20 - 30%, while the detail has gone down. Some (like the KV-1 and Stug) are now almost all plastic. Most of my dioramas come out of materials bought at Home Depot (refer my "Eastern Front Diorama", my first posted diorama for the construction techniques I use). Beetstreet
@beetstreet4 I got my U.S. 4th infantry Division today for the little price of 3$! my local video club was closing so it was a last sell...everything cost 75% less!!! it was the last pack..there was no tanks anymore :(
@Jaqobski Very good Jacob. Every one of these dioramas has a historical flaw. These were some of my first dioramas. I do say that they are imaginary situations but they should have some historic truth. I should have done far more research before I built them. The diorama you are refering to, no longer exists. I took it apart. I still have the base, maybe one day I will rebuild it but with more accuracy. Beetstreet
I personal don't buy those versions. I'm not trying to be rude or arrogant but the Enthusiast line has greater detail, painting and weathering. If I do buy the Action line, I repaint them. I know this sounds arrogant but buy one of each and compare, you will see the difference. As for cheaper FOVs, try EBay. That's where I buy mine. Beetstreet
If you go to my "Eastern Front Diorama - Forces Of Valor" video and watch the how it was made section. You will see how I built the wooden support wall on the sides of the railway line. Though slightly different for the trenches, I use pretty much the same method and you could apply it. Hope that helps, Beetstreet
I love it. Helps pass the winter up here in Canada. Here are a couple of recommendations: 1. I can't recommend enough to start small, not more than 2 feet by 2 feet, this is from bad and costly experience. 2. Work in a well-ventilated environment due to the adhesives and spray paints. Another one I learnt the hard way. 3. Give yourself some room to work. Don't try and build it in the closet.
4. This one is really important. It you want to have something, like a bridge or something, on your diorama. Try to figure how you can build it and build it. If you can't do either then and only then buy it from a model store or online. This will save you a fortune and make it more your own creation. Hope that helps and give it a try, what do you have to lose? You also will only get better with experience at them. Beetstreet
1. The scale is 1/32 on the vehicles and 1/32 on the figures. In other dioramas I use alot of 1/35 scale figures.
2. The manufacturer is Forces Of Valor (Unimax).
3. Yes I build all the landscapes myself. That is what I enjoy most about building these. (Please watch my You Tube videos: "Tribute To Ernst Barkmann" or "Eastern Front Diorama - Forces Of Valor" to see how I make them).
I will use a Web translator to convert to German. Hope that helps, Beetstreet
I use mainly Forces Of Valor but sometimes I do include 21st Century. I had heard 21st Century was now closed. Do you know if this is true? Thanks, Beetstreet
I used a combination of a drill with metal bit, metal shavings, flat Humbrol black paint, flat Humbrol rust paint, dried and filtered dirt and Woodland Scenics "grass" (ground foam). Hope that helps, Beetstreet
If you review 3:11 you will notice that the Allied 1/2 track is in fact destroyed. Perhaps the paratroopers behind the bocage were hitching a ride before it's destruction? Hope that helps to clear it up :) Thank you for watching and commenting. If you read the credits, I left the names of three FOV dealers that you can trust and I have dealt with for years. If you check out my "Eastern Front" and "Tribute To Ernest Barkmann" diorama videos, you will see how I make mine. Beetstreet
Rather than trying to explain how I build my dioramas, just go to this You Tube video Eastern Front Diorama - Forces Of Valor. It shows the building of one of my dioramas from start to finish. Also my video Tribute To Ernst Barkmann shows another diorama I built from start to conclusion. Hope that helps, Beetstreet
You can try EBay but you take your chances - most are good but I have been ripped off more than once!! I am starting to find Canadian dealers but I prefer to try them before recommending them to anyone else. Above all PLEASE support your local modeling shop first!!!!! A small piece of advice from hard lessons: "Think big and detailed but build small at first". Trust me I wish someone had said that to me at the start. That's how you learn I guess. Hope That Helps, Beetstreet
In the credits I listed three dealers I have dealt with for years and can be absolutely trusted: Baron Vlad, C&C Gift Emporium and JP Hobbies. All have websites and the first two sell on EBay. Let them know that Andrew sent you! Sierra Toy Soldiers and Michigan Toy Soldiers are another two good dealers. Please note that the prices are in US dollars, shipping is not cheap to Canada and customs fees (if you hit unlucky) are annoying! The models are worth it.
Actually not all were. In various books I have pictures from the Normandy battles of Panzer IIIs, Flak 88s, howitzers and the really big guns that were painted "panzer grey" (Dunklegrau) during the invasion. The general order to change the paint scheme on Panzer tanks (for example) to use camouflage colours in the field didn't happen until 1943. The application of camouflage paint at the factory level didn't happen until 1944.
On the flip side, Panzer tanks did appear at the beginning of the War with a grey / brown camouflage scheme. In the North Africa / Mediterranean operations some tanks were painted olive green. Even the field applied camouflage schemes varied by division. Though the colours were specified, the shape and overall design varied. So the answer is unfortuately not that clear cut. Beetstreet
It was loosely based on the Brecourt Manor battery, I used it for inspiration. Due to the fact that all I use is Forces Of Valor and Ultimate Soldier models, neither of which produce 105mm howitzer models, I could not reproduce the Manor Battery. So i created my own. There were many anti-aircraft and bombardment batteries on the Atlantik Wall defence. Brecourt Manor has become the most famous due to the Band Of Brothers videos. I guess the answer is yes and no at the same time. Beetstreet
To all, maybe you know about Steve but if you don't, search in You Tube for steve the kamloopian. He is great and has great advice. He also runs a website. I highly recommend you visit both! Beetstreet
what did you use to make the trenches? like whats it called? Where did you get them? And what about the netting u used for the AA guns? where did u get it/how did you make it? Thanks a lot i am making a diorama honoring some close friends
I make all my dioramas using smooth textured Styrofoam insulation and then carve it to the shape I want (refer my: Eastern Front Diorama - it shows how I build mine). I then weather Popsicle sticks from the local dollar store, glue them in place against the primed Styrofoam and brace it using small doweling (again refer my: Eastern Front Diorama).
The netting I made using fabric from the local fabric store. If you want good quality and realistic netting, but don't want to make your own, I suggest C&C Gift Emporium for diorama items. Tell them Andrew sent you, they will take care of you and are very trustworthy!! Also try your local hobby store, if you have one, support jobs and businesses in your community in these tough economic times. Hope that helps.
(PLEASE NOTE: I DO NOT WORK OR RECEIVE ANY MONIES FROM THESE SUPPLIERS BUT AFTER YEARS YOU OUT WHO ARE THE BEST AND MOST HONEST SUPPLIERS). I do however; highly recommend supporting your local hobby stores whenever possible - helps keep local businesses and jobs in your community.
I highly recommend C&C Gift Emporium (California), J-P Hobbies (New York) or Vlads Toys (Mississippi) all three are straight up people who operate on-line toy shops. The tanks and vehicles are all 1/32nd scale die cast metal produced by Forces Of Valor (except the MG42 + crew and the Pak 40 w crew which are Ultimate Soldier) but most are now retired. I recommend the above-mentioned on-line dealers.
The dioramas themselves I build myself. If you want to see how I make them, please view another of my videos titled eastern front diorama forces of valor for a step-by-step tutorial. The figures come from three sources: pepi15 (Florida) and something-old-n-new (California) both run online auctions on EBay and can be trusted. The third source is Forces Of Valor.
It is currently available online at either J-P Hobbies (NY) or C&C Gift Emporium (CA) both dealers I have dealt with for years and highly recommend. Let them know Andrew from Canada sent you! (PLEASE NOTE: I DO NOT WORK OR RECEIVE ANY MONIES FROM THESE SUPPLIERS BUT AFTER YEARS YOU OUT WHO ARE THE BEST AND MOST HONEST SUPPLIERS). I do however, highly recommend supporting your local hobby store whenever possible - helps keep local businesses and jobs in your community.
If you are refering to the medic on the German Normandy artillery diorama, that was a custom figure I purchased on EBay from the seller "something-old-n-new". I have dealt with the seller for quite some time and highly recommend. They are located in California. If you are refering to the US medics on the Jagdpanther diorama, then that set is made by Forces Of Valor - 82nd Airbourne with medic set.
All the vehicles are Forces Of Valor diecast metal at 1/32 nd scale. The figures are plastic and are 1/32 nd or 1/35th scale. Thank you for looking, Beetstreet
Thank you. Ever notice we are most critical of our own work? You should post pictures of your dioramas to you tube. I would like to see them. Beetstreet
Those were some really detailed enviroment you made. I really liked how I could instantly recognize the vehicles in your video. Once again man, excellent work. Now if only I could look at one german word without trying to say it and laugh...
Thank you for taking the time to look that closely at the models. All the tanks, half tracks and 88s are produced by Unimax Forces Of Valor and are diecast at 1/32nd scale. Due to their value I try not to modify them. As a result, the manufacturer puts on the tank and bunker kill decals. Thanks again for looking.
If you check out my other video - "eastern front diorama forces of valor", you will see how I create my dioramas. It is a photo step by step that I did over the four months it took to build. I use essentiallly the same method for all my dioramas. I hope that helps. Beetstreet
i really likethe soldiers hiding in the bushes :) your skill of reproducing nature is great!!! the only thing you could improve is that you use a smaller range of colors for the trees - they sometimes look like they come together from different seasons^^

Where can you get cheap Forces Of Valor now? Target stopped carring them!
LifeInTechnicolor11 1 year ago
I personal don't buy those versions. I'm not trying to be rude or arrogant but the Enthusiast line has greater detail, painting and weathering. If I do buy the Action line, I repaint them. I know this sounds arrogant but buy one of each and compare, you will see the difference. As for cheaper FOVs, try EBay. That's where I buy mine. Beetstreet

Hey how did you build the trench scenery with the 88s and anti aircraft gunz
. Thank you and great job
matthewr1995 2 years ago
If you go to my "Eastern Front Diorama - Forces Of Valor" video and watch the how it was made section. You will see how I built the wooden support wall on the sides of the railway line. Though slightly different for the trenches, I use pretty much the same method and you could apply it. Hope that helps, Beetstreet

im thinking about doing this..but i dont wanna buy the supplies then not do it...is it fun?
boomheadshot191 2 years ago
Don't try and build it in the closet.
beetstreet4 2 years ago
Beetstreet

Softairboy232 2 years ago
Hello beetstreet4 i am from Germanny and 13 years old my english is not so good.I ve got many questions:
1.What for a Maßstab do you take 1:72 0r 1:32?
2.From waht for a Hersteller?
3Are buil the Gelände(Terrotorium)self?
i hope you'll awnser.
Softairboy232 2 years ago
Of course I will answer:
Hope that helps, Beetstreet
beetstreet4 2 years ago
beetstreet4 2 years ago

Oh my goodness, is this diorama from the one battle scene from band of brothers?

I use mainly Forces Of Valor but sometimes I do include 21st Century. I had heard 21st Century was now closed. Do you know if this is true? Thanks, Beetstreet

All three are 1:32 / 1:35 scale but mainly 1:32 scale.

at 2:53 how did you make the Stug like that?!
hetsar 2 years ago

Hope That Helps, Beetstreet
beetstreet4 2 years ago
In the credits I listed three dealers I have dealt with for years and can be absolutely trusted: Baron Vlad, C&C Gift Emporium and JP Hobbies. All have websites and the first two sell on EBay. Let them know that Andrew sent you! Sierra Toy Soldiers and Michigan Toy Soldiers are another two good dealers. Please note that the prices are in US dollars, shipping is not cheap to Canada and customs fees (if you hit unlucky) are annoying! The models are worth it.

weren't the guns in normandy not already painted in a yellow/green/brown camouflage? z
zoldan47 2 years ago
Actually not all were. In various books I have pictures from the Normandy battles of Panzer IIIs, Flak 88s, howitzers and the really big guns that were painted "panzer grey" (Dunklegrau) during the invasion. The general order to change the paint scheme on Panzer tanks (for example) to use camouflage colours in the field didn't happen until 1943. The application of camouflage paint at the factory level didn't happen until 1944.
beetstreet4 2 years ago
On the flip side, Panzer tanks did appear at the beginning of the War with a grey / brown camouflage scheme. In the North Africa / Mediterranean operations some tanks were painted olive green. Even the field applied camouflage schemes varied by division. Though the colours were specified, the shape and overall design varied. So the answer is unfortuately not that clear cut. Beetstreet

did you tried create brecourt manor artillery battery on utah?
renneabad03 2 years ago
It was loosely based on the Brecourt Manor battery, I used it for inspiration. Due to the fact that all I use is Forces Of Valor and Ultimate Soldier models, neither of which produce 105mm howitzer models, I could not reproduce the Manor Battery. So i created my own. There were many anti-aircraft and bombardment batteries on the Atlantik Wall defence. Brecourt Manor has become the most famous due to the Band Of Brothers videos. I guess the answer is yes and no at the same time. Beetstreet

So did you build those or they come like that? Do the people hold their gun like that? And I'm probably making a desert storm one so yeah. ^-^
Masterdustin101 2 years ago
what did you use to make the trenches? like whats it called? Where did you get them? And what about the netting u used for the AA guns? where did u get it/how did you make it? Thanks a lot i am making a diorama honoring some close friends
zubinmthw 2 years ago
I make all my dioramas using smooth textured Styrofoam insulation and then carve it to the shape I want (refer my: Eastern Front Diorama - it shows how I build mine). I then weather Popsicle sticks from the local dollar store, glue them in place against the primed Styrofoam and brace it using small doweling (again refer my: Eastern Front Diorama).
beetstreet4 2 years ago
The netting I made using fabric from the local fabric store. If you want good quality and realistic netting, but don't want to make your own, I suggest C&C Gift Emporium for diorama items. Tell them Andrew sent you, they will take care of you and are very trustworthy!! Also try your local hobby store, if you have one, support jobs and businesses in your community in these tough economic times. Hope that helps.

beetstreet4 2 years ago
I highly recommend C&C Gift Emporium (California), J-P Hobbies (New York) or Vlads Toys (Mississippi) all three are straight up people who operate on-line toy shops. The tanks and vehicles are all 1/32nd scale die cast metal produced by Forces Of Valor (except the MG42 + crew and the Pak 40 w crew which are Ultimate Soldier) but most are now retired. I recommend the above-mentioned on-line dealers.
beetstreet4 2 years ago
The dioramas themselves I build myself. If you want to see how I make them, please view another of my videos titled eastern front diorama forces of valor for a step-by-step tutorial. The figures come from three sources: pepi15 (Florida) and something-old-n-new (California) both run online auctions on EBay and can be trusted. The third source is Forces Of Valor.
beetstreet4 2 years ago

What r the sizes of the models? R they 1:32?
NSTER1995 2 years ago
All the vehicles are Forces Of Valor diecast metal at 1/32 nd scale. The figures are plastic and are 1/32 nd or 1/35th scale. Thank you for looking, Beetstreet

That 88 has a lot of tank and fortification kills for pre d-day
jacupuh 2 years ago
Thank you for taking the time to look that closely at the models. All the tanks, half tracks and 88s are produced by Unimax Forces Of Valor and are diecast at 1/32nd scale. Due to their value I try not to modify them. As a result, the manufacturer puts on the tank and bunker kill decals. Thanks again for looking.
beetstreet4 2 years ago
Yeah I have the same 88. I love Forces of Valor.

i really likethe soldiers hiding in the bushes :) your skill of reproducing nature is great!!! the only thing you could improve is that you use a smaller range of colors for the trees - they sometimes look like they come together from different seasons^^
