  • I've never heard this piece before. I like it a lot, thanks for the upload.

  • great piece of music!

  • are one of the movements in this piece a tango?

  • yes, the 6th :]

  • Well... it is sort of a tango, it sounds more like an habanera... but still you can call it tango if you want. The indications of each piece are just a vague indication not to be taken to literally.

  • what are u all talking about?? he plays well, but he's no god. if u knew this piece you would realize that he plays WRONG rhythms and WRONG notes in places. so either shut it or know what youre talking about....

  • Yo yo ma play not clean! Prokovich play very clean!

  • Is Henze quoting from Cesar Cui's Orientale toward the end?

  • god, i love everything about henze. he's so fagulous.

  • Very God, I Like... minute 3:58 Funny???

  • You can always count on Schiff having razor-sharp articulation. I love that about him. This performance is especially expressive. I'm having renewed appreciation for him, after hearing his rather gruff treatment of Shosty Cello concerti.

  • His Shostakovich first is indeed quite good, but I admit that his cadenza disappointed me; it seems quite expressionless, in comparison to his other wonderful solo performances (like this one).

I absolutely loved his rendition of the second concerto, however.

  • grande strumentista, esecuzine un pò superficiale.

  • Schiff is one of the best cellists there is-no frills, just fantstic cello playing. He should be heard more often.

  • I always love his playing.

  • pretty damned amazing playing. that's one heck of a piece.....i wish more people played it though...it's a real gem!

  • Schiff is one of the elite, with a tone to rival Rostropovich and an unmatched sense of rhythm. It is truly unjust that he lacks the popularity of many lesser artists (like Yo-Yo Ma).

  • I agree, unlike the overrated Yo-Yo Ma, he has incredible rhythm and tempo. Yo-Yo Ma, for bach especially, plays at a romantic, and liberal tempo. Also compared to Jian Wang, he doesn't have that special beat to his musics.

  • awesome vid

  • Ace!

  • May be you shoud add some tags. Its too hard to find. Excelent piece, thank you.

  • I saw him playing Bach, and it was fantastic!!

  • excellent..
