  • AlI see when I look at this is...Old School 3rd Ward!!! Yeah!

  • .....oh dear. Oh, dear.

  • 1:07 he just wasn't confidant enough to get it out.

  • Yes this isn't the original, I remember seeing the original video on beavis and butthead back in the day when they used to watch them lol

  • ?? This is just a cover of the Godley and Cream song, and the video is done the SAME WAY. Unless I'm missing something huge, this is not original. And no, it's not ironic either.

  • I'm fairly certain I've accounted for at least 2/3 of this video's views

  • if i was suicidal... this would be my song

  • I wish i was in this video, sandwiched by two Justin Vernon faces

  • just served pizza to guy at 2:38... haha thought he looked familiar...

  • Nice that Godley's in this.

  • Scott Seekins is in this. Can you find him?

  • Needs moar Mr. T. (check the original version by Godley and Creme)

  • @Gratefu1Dead420

Nope! It is exactly what they did in the original Godley and Creme video in 1985. MJ's Black and White came out in 1991.

  • Beautiful.

  • 2:33 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:34 Best Musician EVER!!

  • hipster morphing.

  • I understand their wanting to cover this song, but why would they want to cover the video as well? Talk about your lack of originality.

  • @wrak53 They did it to pay homage to the original.

  • 2 words - godley and creme.

  • 3:33 Ryan Olsen the genius who created the supergroup know as Gayngs

  • 4:13 is the creepiest shot in this :)

  • trippy

  • Genius.

  • Beautiful yet funny

  • i listened to this album and i was like "damn this reminds me of bon iver". i later found out why. so how do you pronounce "gayngs"?

  • @billymisfits just like gangs

  • Minnesotan Artists!!!

  • @BlackBeltJones44 They're all from Eau Claire, Wi. not minnesota

  • @f0ster86 Nope. Bon Iver is, but a lot of them are from MN. Like POS graduated from Hopkins high school in the twin cities.

  • Humans are beautiful.

  • @MSAZgreen except if you are 2:38

  • Not me. The equality of Gayngs far surpasses any one individual.

  • I think that older guy is the person who sings the original =O

  • @Benjadock Yes, that guy is Kevin Godley

  • This was O.K. The cover is better than the awful video.

  • emphasis on gay

  • @TheManolakis YOU'RE GAY

  • @EdGausel YES! HAHAHAHA

  • @EdGausel Dude, you are spot-on. Hahaha

  • the girl at 2:55 looks like the girl at 4:38 in "The Gaudy Side Of Town" video

plus i want to marry 3:39

  • top 3 bands right now:

    1. Dead Meadow

    2. The Black Angels

    3. Black Mountain

  • I just played this song in my VLC player and speeded it up. it sounded pretty cool as well : ) Godspeed you guys! Keep up the good work!

  • the old guy with the beard is Kevin Godley the one who wrote the song

  • wow really a genius, this video is fantastic. And the dancers... great professionals. pls download this from downloadmusic.im

  • Horrible remake, has nothing to do with the type of music or how commercial it is, this just sounds wrong.. not sure if its too slow or the vocalist just has a voice that does nothing for me

  • no disrespect meant to godley and creme on that last comment though! the original is also lovely, but this is the version that resonates best with me.

  • i dunno if i am the only one who finds this version of the song far more moving than the original, but i do. the slow, more ethereal feel of it fits better with the song in my opinion. really beautiful and haunting.

  • Hmm, not really into this, but Bon Iver, Megafaun (members scattered throughout video), and Lookbook (Maggie Morrison @ 3:27) are all awesome. Neat vid tho.

  • yeah bon iver is good, and this can be enjoyed for what it is.. Stop humouring yourself with this self righteous snobbery please. Or alternatively- eat a dick

  • To be honest I was never a fan of the Original it was too commercial for my tastes I like G&C's more out there stuff more. That said this is worse than the original this is just dreary

  • how can justin vernon sink to this level of shit? joining a 20 man band who cover peoples songs, copy the video and dont credit it. Justin vernon needs to leave this bullshit and get back to Bon iver. If you think this is so good, go listen to "flume" and you'll have an orgasm coz you'll be hearing proper music.

  • @henryherbert

Seriously. I want more iver. Who is this a cover of?

  • AWESOME song.

  • come on, THIS instead of more bon iver?

    come onnnn

  • Wow, these guys have taken one of the great songs and videos by a truly progressive pair of artists and turned it to utter crap. Worst cover of the century so far.

  • @ronaldwitt - Kevin Godley doesn't think so does he? . Asshat.

  • @nakedmolerat43 Great as he once was, Godley, like the Stones hasn't done anything artistically valid in 30 years. He was just reacting with the emotion of someone who was unduly flattered by utter shite. Gayngs sucks and you're a dickwad.

  • @ronaldwitt you make me wanna cry.

    HURR HURR HURR

  • @nakedmolerat43 Well, I'd want to cry too if I had no taste in music.

  • @ronaldwitt haha.

Im not saying they're geniuses, just that..... you are obviously old, and I like cover versions that at least try and take a little sideways step from the original.

  • @nakedmolerat43 On the contrary, I manage a music store and I'm not old at all (you, on the other hand, are an asshole for making a pointless and inaccurate judgement that doesn't at all pertain to the topic of whether or not these guys suck). I just have deep, extended knowledge of music and music history. I saw this on the NME list that I was checking to know what might be selling. I listened to everything on their top 75 and only liked 9. NME blows, the next gen blows and this band blows.

  • @ronaldwitt im curious - what exactly is it about gayngs that you don't like? you said this cover is bad etc but i cant exactly tell why. also curious about your music history knowledge etc. and your music store - what music do you sell?

  • @grenaderock We sell everything from jazz, blues, electro to punk, indie & mainstream rock and pop. Before I converted to CDs, I owned 10,000 albums & had access to the 50,000 we had in stock at our store. Despite having WI roots, I can't stand Bon Iver and this is unoriginal in both concept and execution (it takes forever to go nowhere). It's lifeless and bland, utterly lacking in energy. Music has gotten horrible in the last 10 years-this year's especially bad--& this is just a terrible band.

  • @ronaldwitt huh, that's pretty cool. any jungle/dnb? with regard to gayngs, i would agree that the concept is unoriginal, but I think the album is intended more as a tribute to a certain genre. its inherently pretty limited, which is why i doubt they'll make a second cd. i do think this song is kinda weak, but there are some catchy songs on the cd (gaudy side, faded high esp). i would also disagree about music becoming horrible, but that really depends on what music/genres you like.

  • @grenaderock Electro covers all forms of music lacking conventional rock instrumentation (so, jungle, dnb, mashups & all other subgenres should really all fall under the single umbrella of electro because you can't really distinguish between sounds and scenes of that type of music). It has all gotten corporatized and indies have gotten lame and wimpy. At a time when Obama has expanded Bush fascism, there should be a legit punk protest revival. Where's the anger over bad politics and wimpy music?

  • @ronaldwitt electro is actually a genre of electronic music, but really that's just semantics. also, there are very distinct scenes and sounds in electronic music, i'm not sure where you are getting at. I guess I would disagree about the wimpiness of indie - i tend to like soft music. i would also say music has always been corporatized. i don't think a conscious punk revival would be a bad thing, but punk was a product of tons of social and musical factors that cant necessarily be recreated.

  • @grenaderock Anything synthetic starts to sound the same to me after awhile; there have been very few innovators in the field (Brian Eno, LCD Soundsystem & Matthew Herbert are the only people I currently feel have been truly creative in the last 40 years). Punk, at heart, was a reaction against corporate music (read Punk Productions by Stacy Thompson). Having lived through the 70s and 80s, I can assure you that things are far WORSE politically and musically.THAT should spawn more punk & protest.

  • @ronaldwitt at the same time though, i think our argument about modern music just boils down to "i disagree", which is basically what happens in debates about whether music is 'good' or 'bad'.

  • @ronaldwitt which 9 did you like?

  • Great great great! I like the slower speed of this version. The girl's eyes and face at 3:27 actually makes me want to cry

  • Do I like this as much as the original? No, but, let's face it, that is a really hard act to follow.

It's clear to me that Gayngs love and respect the source material, and if they bring new people around to listening to that music too, then more power to their collective elbows!

  • Great Song

  • probably the single most moving song of this decade

  • So the guy at 3:44 is for sure the guy i see everyday on the 4 or 18 bus in uptown. I always remembered as our white Little Richard. Damn if Minneapolis could just get popular enough to bring real humboldt supers

  • at 1:38 us that the host of MTV live? lol

  • @chesa311 i'm so freakin disappointed they didn't show, i was psyched as well

  • this has become one of the most moving songs of my year.

  • Oh cool. Aside from getting Kevin Godley to appear in the video, they also got Christian Slater at 3:33 and Perez Hilton at 4:25. Way to go!

  • totally thought the guy from godley and creme was chuck bukowski

  • had a look at this after seeing a posting on the original 10cc vid-its ok but lacks the intensity of the original-im an old duffer but will stick with my heroes, not meant to belittle their effort which is good-just don't think its as good as the original-not many covers are.

  • every single girl in this video is gorgeous...

  • @metaZen Every single person in the video is gorgeous, and I'm straight. Just saying.

  • @metaZen especially the tranny at 3:00

  • @jimmypaddy54 That's Scott Seekins at 3:41. He's kind of an odd Minneapolis figure. I believe he owns/runs some art galleries around town and has an obsession with Brittney Spears. Google him if you're curious.

  • sort of like Black or White if the video were shot at Primark in Barnsley... wonderful song

  • it definitely is because Dessa was at circa 3:00

  • is that P.O.S. at 1:00?

  • @cameroooon89 yup!

  • @cameroooon89 P.O.S. is part of the band... so yes.

  • @GenericRespondent thanks for the friendly, humble response.

  • An intriguing approach, however part of what made the original great was Kevin Godley's singing...

  • I saw gayngs in nyc... the show was great! keep making great music!

  • sorry about the triple posting. the net in beirut is awful. i didn't think it had gone out the first time. so i hit send again and again. then I edited and sent yet again. circosan, have you seen the orginal Godley and Creme vid? Was that silly too? You can see it on U tube.

  • bzap and cathoderay, The band is clearly paying tribute to their musical influences. Kevin Godley (of the heavenly voice) appears in the vid. That should indicate his approval. Any band that outright names Godley and Creme as its influence gets my endorsement. Real1st and boliverfilms, broaden your taste. Read Narcissus and Goldman; every woman is beautiful. Beauty is internal. I'm in love with all the women in the band, no matter what they look like. They are all beautiful to me.

  • silly video juxtaposed against a,..very seriously gorgeous cover of a classic sad song. love this!

  • This is such a sad song and I love it. .

  • Let's just say you can't possibly compete w/ Godley/Creme's version, and they did it anyway...nobody can sing like Kevin Godley. It's just lame.

  • covering a song and then redoing the original video. Yeah, that's real creative.

  • @2:24 that looks a loooot like sergio cilli. I laughed.

  • Holy shit, IS that MC Chris at 3:05?

  • potleaf, peace sign, vagina, not necessarily in that order

  • 3:41 ...............what?

  • Great homage song video to the original. AND THEY GOT GODLEY IN THE VIDEO TOO (might've missed Creme)! Fuckin sweet remake!

  • lol the all either looked bored, clueless or hihg

  • WOW! The girl at 3:38 is gorgeous!

Can't wait to see em live at ACL!

  • @chesa311 ehhhh.....she's kinda mousey... cute. but i wouldn't say "gorgeous".

and, yeah, this is gonna be awesome at ACL!!!!

  • @boliverfilms yea she's average at best man. you need to get out more @chesa311

  • Great song for a Brew and a Bob. Awesome video as well thanks!

  • The girl at 3:56 has a very alluring look.

  • i think the point to this video is that it doesn't matter who you are we are all connected and similar because we all know what its like to feel pain and want to cry

  • Great song. I am not sure if it is possible to compare GAYNgS to Bon Iver but it seems that everything that is touched by Vernon becomes so wonderful...

Amazing song. Awesom music....have no words to express the emotion...

  • weed, vagina and peace......nice

  • Well, now we can add a new definition to the word "pointless" when the next edition of Webster's is ready to roll.

  • I've never done a hard drug in my life.....and I absolutely love this video.

  • fantanstic

  • 2:32 is the best! Love everything Justin Vernon does :)

  • @cluedo1 I hear that! Love me some BI/JV!!!

  • @cluedo1 Justin Vernon is amazing, but he's only 1/25 of this band. where is the due credit.

  • scott seekins spotting

  • tears for fears

  • emulation is the worst flattery
