This is a good performance of the song and an original performance of a particular song but the song in my opinion has to be sang solo to bring across the starkness and loneliness of the writers predicament, because of which Tim Buckely's version will never be surpassed.
I first heard the album version, which I like better. It's never fair to compare singers' voices, and die-hard Buckley fans are unlikely to like this version better ;) but I think it's a compliment to the original version (Ferry's album version, that is).
I would not know if it wasn't for Buckley that Ferry sings this, and perhaps vice versa for Ferry fans. Other great Buckley songs for those interested: Blue Melody, Driftin', The river, Sweet surrender - there's an enormous repertoire!
@natateaful - At the start of the week there was a shortened Jools Holland show where Bryan just sang YOU CAN DANCE but later in the week they showed the extended version of that show where Brayn sung SONG TO THE SIREN and SHAMELESS as well as YOU CAN DANCE (which I noticed was a different live rendition than the version shown a few days before - a stronger performance - I'll try and upload)
@kanecaptain The second version that was even stronger than the first one? Wow! It's amazing, didn't expect this. Ofcourse, Kane, I'll be waiting for your upload, if this is possible to be done, as I'm intrigued and eager to compare :) Спасибо огромное! =) Thank you!
lost all the subtlety, poitnancy and substance of the original. this just sounds like a meaningless pop song

This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren "Cocteau Twins" still the best version for me but this is still very cool - thanks for the upload :)

I agree that Tim Buckleys version cannot be beaten - he wrote it and his voice has never been bettered - but a good effort Brian!

Could I ask you a question, Kane, please? How many songs did they perform in all on the show?
