  • This weren't meant no teenyboppers

  • Steve Stevens did a good cover.

  • Sweet is sweet!

  • I hate when people say that Sweet sounds like Queen. Sweet doesn't sound like Queen; Queen sounds like Sweet!

  • Sweet were a big part of my teens and I still love them. Now I like Def I have 3 of there CDs But SWEET made this song great.Andys licks Briens voks.Def had new tek well ahead of the 16 to 24 track tape of the 70s.I saw Sweet at there peek They were the real deal

  • def leppard cover is better than this in my opinion.

def leppard are the greatest band in history, so needless to say they are a lot better then sweet, even though sweet are top class

  • @joegarydaniels Everyone is entitled to air their opinion, no matter how wrong that opinion is.;-)

  • @joegarydaniels The guys in Def Leppard would probably disagree with you, my friend. As far as I know they're all mad keen on Sweet.

  • @joegarydaniels bull

  • The kerrang at 28/29 seconds,is just pure amazing sound.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!....want to know some juicy gossip about the sweet that they dare not print in the magazines.....go to "hey st peter gnowangerups70s" and read my 3 comments. regards.

  • Anyone know what that guitar on the left is?

  • Def Lep did a great version of this.

  • the guitar's more pronounced in this original version. I think i like this more than the def lep and atomic playboys version.

  • Dam they look fine in leather! Yummmyyyyy!!!

  • The perfect rock band..everything is so right and screaming for freedom

  • when I have been a teenager; SWEET had been my FAVORITE band; still like them of course; many songs from SWEET including ACTION; it`s true it`s ACTION we need

  • Sweet's the best, fuck the rest !!

  • This sounds so much like Queen.

    Extremely talented band!

    Excellent!!!!

  • Sweet hit #20 in Billboard, 4-17-76. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • It's hard to believe they're lip synching this tune, but their guitars aren't plugged in. Oh well, they still rock like hell!

  • @redgreenjr haha i know right.. but at least they DID play this song xD

  • @kittiesgomow33 Oh yeah, one of (if not THE) greatest glam bands of the 70's. I used to listen to Sweet on WLS (the big 89) all the time.

So sad Brian and Mick came to such tragic ends. At least we still have their legacy to enjoy on youtube.

  • @redgreenjr yess! if it wasnt for yuotube i woudlnt have heard half the songs they have sang! and yes, they ARE the GREATEST band ever!! but im sad to say that people my age nowadays dont listen to this type of music anymore and dont understand/appreciate how much better life was back in the 70's :(

i wish i could have lived back then. *sigh*

  • @kittiesgomow33 Actually my favorite glam band from the 70's was Angel They don't have too many live videos on youtube, but here's a good one: youtube.com/watch?v=8n07qiAo1lM

You may have to cut and paste the link into your browser. Enjoy!

  • @redgreenjr haha thank u, but i still prefer the sweet :)

  • I have a sweet LP, yes great song!

  • The singer looks like early John Mikl Thor. Pure epic heavy metal

  • Def Leppard did a good cover! But nothing can top the original: The Sweet are the best forever!!!! R.I.P. Brian R.I.P. Mick

  • Sweet,Slade Trex all but forgoten by now but it was a grad day for rock not pop not prog the glam thing was about good times.Sweet were the BEST at it. They made Bowie glam and Rush was there support band. They stad out. From the pack

  • Ok I did not know Def did this song.I did check it out and it's not bad but it's just not sweet.Sweet had sumthing no other band will ever have...Andy Scots balls the man could rock like no other

  • Steve Stevens from Billy Idol also did his own version (check it out). I still like Def Leppards though. Still one of the best songs ever and the solo kick ass (speaking as a guitar player).

  • "13 Hit Wonder" I love Mick T's -Shirt!

  • Didnt even know Def Leppard did a cover of this legendary song by the Sweet! but i fink there orright!

  • best song of sweet

  • Did anyone notice the appearance of the Dalek after 58 secs of the video? Awesome track bay the way!!!

  • i like that clear bass guitar

  • 2:34 Teaching Eddy van Hallen to play right on guitar tabs...

  • I love the Sweet they were the very of the glam bands.I saw there give us a wink show in 76 i think ,and Def did not do this song, they did hell raiser RIP Brian Connolly

  • @MrRichardSabsay of course Def did action!!

  • Wow, This is the earliest true HEAVY METAL . It shocks that many metal bands have been influenced by Sweet , noone admits this

Epic legends - the first to ride harley davidson with epic heavy metal costumes

  • @manillas2 you´re so far off (and this is GLAM)!

  • This group simple bomb.

  • Why can't I give thumbs up to the info text? It's the best comment that I can see...

  • Great song, off the "Give Us A Wink" album. Better then Desolation Boulevard album in my opinion

  • @karlmarxx999 This song is off the album "Strung Up".....

  • i don't need to hear the def leppard cover, the sweet original must be better

  • a leppard never changes its spots.

  • Punk Rock , Before the fact !

  • Like Mick Tucker's t shirt "13 Hit Wonders"!

  • Fucking raw rock n roll anthem!

  • This original rocked way better than the Def leppard version . I do like Def Leppard though .

  • Magic

  • Sweet were YEARS ahead of their time, you can hear and see their influence all over rock and roll music. Nobody sounded like them, looked like them or had the stage presence in the 70's. They are probably the most ripped off band in rock and roll history LOL.

  • This is the single version and there was an album verion with sythesiser in the intro but I remember there being a third version like the album version but with just a single "Action!" at the end . Does anybody else remember this? (My tapes are long gone and none of the re-releases seems to have it.)

  • @RCbeastly Yes I'[ve heard the version you've mantioned. Probalby a rough early mix that found it's way out probably for a tv show

  • Great tune. Thanks for posting.

  • Sweet performed this originally, but wasn't it written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman?

  • @JBofBrisbane No! this great song is Sweet made:-)

  • @JBofBrisbane no, by the time they did this song, they'd started writing much of their own music

  • These guys were the real deal. So sad that Connolly and Tucker are gone now.

I think the term "glam" was after Sweet. When I was 12, I just thought of them as hard rock with really great vocals.

  • Brian Connolly had one of the best rock voices ever.

Sweet were an amazing rock/pop band best band of the Glam Rock era

without a doubt. Sweet were huge all over Europe Australia America ect

teenage girls were crazy over at their concerts listen to Teenage Rampage

and you get a feel of what it was like at a concert it was total madness.

  • DNAunion: good point! Sweet had 4 or 5 top 10 hits in the U.S. So, they had their moments! Unfortunately, like most moments it didn't last.

  • @rose85567 Are you out of your fucking mind?

  • I`m fifty seven and can remember the early seventies: endless strikes, power cuts, rampant inflation, oil crises, British Leyland cars; the list goes on, but the music? the best ever. Shame the kids of today have to judge music by the X Factor.

  • @glenn1340 i totally agree with your comment but we teenages of that era had a fantastic time and yes it is a shame that kids of today have to judge music by the x factor what garbage that is.so fortunate i was around in that period of time

  • MMMMMMMMM delicious rock. RIP Brian you are the best

  • Is that David St Hubbins? Hahahaha.

  • I love Sweet and Def-Lep, in fact DL do remind me of Sweet a little, and Joe Elliot also reminds me of Brian to some degree.

MUCH kudos to the writers and the definitive version, but IMHO, DL's version is as good a cover version as you could hope for.

Modern production, with a harder edge, but still manages to remain true to the original.

  • Thank sfor the REAL Clip man ... Rock on..

  • great song, great clip four guys on stage singing no dancers, no special effects... how can todays shit compare.

  • I gotta admit - I LOVE both versions - hard to tell one from the other - although Rick Savage's drumming is quite distinct and Mick Tucker was always a hero of mine ....RIP Mick and Brian.....:)

  • @diamantinadavina

The drummer for Def Leppard is Rick Allen...

Rick Savage plays bass guitar for Def.

  • @GoodGollyMissMollySB

my bad sorry :) never been a huge follower of DefLep - however I felt hugely for Rick Allen after his HUGE accident and having to learn play drums all over again with a modified kit - which he does magnificently :)

  • i remember back in 70s being in our garage standing around the pool table holding our ques like lead guitars listening to this and kiss .

  • Groga watt! Krotenhunger sull de sweeten grot! live them!!

  • pure HELL RAISERS love em

  • god bless you tube and the great people that take the time to upload classics

like this for old farts like me to remember my youth and to show the younger generation the bands we loved so much

    thanks a million

  • @ukmetalman way before i was born but im also glad they are still played, as oppose to today's crappy music

  • @ukmetalman I had a channel I put together back in 06 it had 1500 music videos from the 50s to the 90s here on YT. It was an ongoing work in progress then they shut my channel down wiped it out from existence it was a big hit with nearly10000 subs just to please all age groups. I'm just glad to see there is still videos like this that exist.

  • отлично

  • A local DJ on the radio played Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" and then said they were a one hit wonder. WHAT???

  • @DNAunion he's obviously retarded.

  • Brilliant

  • motley crue owes alot to these guys

  • If you heard this song today on the radio and never knew who this band was it would be as fresh now as it was then, lyrics and musical arrangements. It is time less rock period!

  • These guys got me through some very rough patches in the seventies. Love them!

  • Great song Great band!

  • Didn't Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman write this? The Sweet were the first to perform it though - real kick-a#$e song.

  • @JBofBrisbane - This was the follow up to Fox on the Run and it was written and produced by The Sweet - there have been several cover versions, most notably Def Leppard, but it is an original Sweet classic.

  • One of the most under rated, under appreciated bands of all time. Love all the SWEET music, but this album is one of my favorites. Long Live SWEET!

  • The better version is RAVEN's Version .... LOL

  • one of the few songs that is harder rocking than it's cover

  • DEF LEPPAR MADE A GOOD COVER OF THIS SONG...

THE SWEET IS A VERY VERY VERY VERY GOOD BAND

    I LIKE IT SO MUCH.....

  • Besides the vocals which are outstanding really listen to the guitar work and the arrangements of all the instruments. You will hear things ten years later that other bands were doing exactly the same thing so they were very ahead of there time by at least 10 years.

    i.e. cheap trick, queen, etc.

  • Def Leppard is a great band, "Hysteria" is one of the best albums ever, i dont know why people keep hating on them.

  • @MasterofGuitarsolos

def leppard could not hold a candle to the original sweet. sinse there drummer lost his left arm year's ago he is limited to what he can do, thus, this is why it seem's all new def leppard song's alway's sound the same, 1 /2 beat with a low e six string growl followed bt basic and pathetic lead riff's

  • @MasterofGuitarsolos

  • @MasterofGuitarsolos

truth is, while Leppard rocks, their Action cover actually sucks, doesn't have the same epicly awesome vibe the original has

  • @MasterofGuitarsolos Thats Sweet... Not Def Leppart

  • @MasterofGuitarsolos Actually the cover appeared on the album Retro Active, but I agree with you.

  • @MasterofGuitarsolos Sure, Dep Leppard is a great band. That is, if you like to watch a bunch of untalented pretty boys show their pretty hair.

  • it is a good son but its static. def leppard's cover brings life and flow to the song. and a feel good factor. this is basic sweet.

  • The Sweet kicks ass !! Hell of a song !!

  • reminds me a bit of a song by "die ärzte" (german punk-rock group) - think they stole the beginning^^

  • The drummers shirt!!! "13 hit wonder"

    too much awesome here

  • What a band. All these killer tunes I never knew about or paid attention to until I reached 44 . . .

  • Stunning!

  • "This is the original and best."

    AGREED!!!

I could not find a video of sweet for a long time until now!

  • i like this song and hell raiser too

  • I THINK THIS SONG IS ABOUT ACTION !

  • @MbootwoKcoonie

Its about too many people having their fingers in the pie.

  • Deaf Leopards should not be given recording contracts, let alone be allowed to play instruments ...

  • @mkanix666 def leppard kicks ass..

  • Fantastic band. Great writers, excellent pop music, their b-sides were a great intro to heavy rock as well, with Burning being a personal favourite.

I was suicidal cos you was my idol.....what a line.

    Thanks for the upload.

  • Sweet isnt just a glam rock band, they were THE glam rock band! Rock on!!!

  • i am the biggest sweet fan ever top dollar rock band that should be there with zep purple etc. NO JUSTICE

  • My first song I bought on single in 1975, I was sick and home from school. It started my love afair with one of the greatest bands from the 70's.

  • God, I loved this song in the Spring of '76 and the Give Us A Wink LP. Sweet were transforming from the glam rockers to the hard rockers.

  • Wicked pissa !!!!!!!!!

  • Sweet rocks, thanks for this video ;)

  • i remember the first birthday'party...i was sixteen,good times!!!

  • rock gods

  • of course this is the best , its the original, i remember it , i love youtube and the people who post

  • I used to love this band when I was 5, along with KI55 and Queen. This shit rocks harder than anything I listen to now! I rocked as a 5 year old!

  • The british Heavy Metal band Raven also covered this great song on their first album Rock Until You Drop.

  • Not only Def Leppard did a cover on this but also Scorpions did cover of both Action and Fox on the run. Scorpions called themself The Hunters in that project for some reason. Very rare recording from 1975.

  • @007Cassandra Wow! First I ever heard of that. I'd love to hear it!

  • @Peskygee1 You can actually find them here on Youtube.

Just search for scorpions action and scorpions fox on the run.

Seems that I not can write links in the comment so i'll try send them to you.

    Enjoy :-)

  • @007Cassandra Thank you! There are so many cool people sharing and helping each other out here on youtube, it more than makes up for the trolls and assholes. Keep on rockin', Cassandra!

  • I had this 45 as a kid. Now I understand why I later got into Judas Priest. The similarities are hilarious...

  • the best version is from atomic playboys!

  • I actually prefer the Def Leppard version better, but it's really neat seeing the original band sing the song.

  • wurde musik noch mit der Hand gemacht

  • einer meiner Lieblingslieder von Sweet.Vor allem Brain Conelly Stmme Ist megamäßig

  • How can you just not groove mightily to this? Highest rating imaginable!

  • Folk who knock the 70s just havent got a clue. This is music as good as it gets.......from a Band as good as it gets. SUPERB.......and Thanks for posting this gem.

  • This song personifies it's TITLE!

  • Now THIS was my favorite song right here.

  • whoa !!! epic stuff !!

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEE !!!..... Terrific ROCK !...... Thanks a lot !!!

  • There another version of this song "Action" that is by Steve Stevens, "Atomic Playboys" CD released in 1989 before the Def Leppard version. Steve Stevens does an awesome job on this classic song! Steve Stevens was Billy Idols former guitarist in addition to playing with Michael Jackson on Dirty Diana. Steve Stevens ROCKS!! Atomic Playboys is a GREAT CD and the cover artwork is done by H.R. Giger the guy who did the "ALIENS" artwork.

  • by far the best clip on utube of "ACTION" Andys Electrophone sounds very dirty and live'

    Sweet > the rest : ) m48

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • Sweet vs. Queen is a hard call for me to make. Without Brian May on guitar, Queen wouldn't stand a chance to me. Leppard hasn't done anything I can still listen to since the High n' Dry LP.

  • i adore this songs in its both versions - I like Sweet and Def Leppard both. The song is brilliant in every aspect

  • A band WAAAAAAY Ahead of thier time....Classic

  • Classic glam rock

  • Rock esplosivo! Erano i tempi d'oro del glam rock! E loro erano la band per antonomasia di quel genere! Grandissimi Sweet!

  • super ,luxus....old rock...

  • One of my favourites. They were the best in the 1970's.

Notice how you can hear every word, and still it sounds raw.

That is not often so in music any longer.

  • @Altinget of course Sweet is a realy good Band but not better than the Legends of QUEEN!

  • @queenfreak1990 That is a close race. Their styles are different and Queen definitely lasted longer. Sweet are sadly a bit forgotten now, while Queen still have international star status.

  • of course sweet wrote it!

  • kewl def leppard sings it better tho!

  • @rlow5546 rubbish.......

sweet - the original and best..

  • @rlow5546

No way sweet's version is much better

  • Sweet ROCKZ

  • Это моя одна из любимых групп

  • Boys! A song super! Under it we studied at institute in 70th years! Thanks!

  • This song is as awesome as I remembered it being in my teens. Rock music was so much fun then, not like the whining crap now.

  • wow der coolste song von sweet

  • Hit #20 in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless! RIP, Brian.

  • I have to say that Brian's throat injury may have damaged his voice, but the newer harsh sound suited their musical direction.

  • that danelectro is filthy! THIS is by far the bestest/realest ? version on utube play it a lot and play it LOUD!!!

  • Ser beste Song.Super

  • ahh yas this is the stuff.....excellent youtubin 5 star

  • This rocks incredibly.

  • Hearing Mick Tucker play made me want to learn drums.

  • Comment removed

  • action is a wicked tune but not written by sweet. it was written by a guy from stratford ontario canada in the early - mid seventies. nicky chin and mike chapman who wrote most of sweet's tunes until off the record paid five hundred bucks for the song and it sold 1.5 million singles and the rest is history.

  • Action was written by: Scott-Priest-Connelly- Tucker. Not Chin-Chapman.

  • @ROULEDUKE5 Actually the credits on the single go to Andy Scott, Brian Connolly, Steve Priest, Mick Tucker, so either you are misled, or there's a court case waiting to happen.
