  • ecstacy got a hold on me!

  • had the plesure of seeing bc in concert truly was a pleasure then bumped into bc on cold snowy dec it was cold but not the coldest night of the year

  • great song, I think its about what the day may bring ? not sure of your confidence of the day .

  • Love the song and love the pics!

  • This is going to played at my funeral!

  • I keep drawings lions. Wondering when they will get me. Really, this song is my life.

  • The story behind this song is so incredible, sad, and enlightening.

  • My favorite video on Youtube ,but it makes me cry every time. It breaks my heart that people can shoot and kill these beautiful creatures.

  • @PunkRockPat The worst threat to lions aren't hunters (who pay upwards of 10,000 USD to shoot a lion); it's the impoverished local herdsmen and farmers who have taken to poisoning lions due to livestock predation.

Saving these creatures will take MONEY to pay rangers to guard them from poachers, and money to pay the locals to not set out poison. The biggest source of said money? HUNTING. Like it or not, we may have to allow a number of lions to be shot each year to save the species.

  • @bjggjb Thats horrible

  • @PunkRockPat It's also reality. Either we can go with the facts and allow hunting (and ensure the survival of lions as a species, and the preservation of their habitat) OR we can do like YOU... deny practical realities, live in Captain Kangaroo Fantasy Land, and end up allowing squatters, land developers, and poachers to encroach on lion habitat (as their will be no money to protect said habitat.)

But that's OK, right? "Good intentions" mean more to people like you, than results do.

  • @bjggjb Hey Fuck you asshole!! "People like me??" You don't fucking know me shithead!! Mr. Fucking Lion expert. You sound like a big fucking dickhead! All I said was that it is sad that people shoot lions. Thats it!! Thats all I said. and you fuckin jump all over me like your David fucking Suzuki. Go fuck yourself and stop talking to me, You fuckin loser.

  • @PunkRockPat I see you're an uneducated idiot, who is PROUD of being an uneducated idiot who thinks that swearing makes him cool (or is it her? You insult like a hysterical girl.)

So I suggest you do two things.

#1. Slap your mother, for not keeping her thighs together that night 13 years ago (and conceiving your sorry ass in the process.)

#2. Go die from a Tylenol overdose (or better yet, mouthing off to the wrong person.)

Have a nice evening, little boy (or is it girl?)

  • @bjggjb Oh shit, it's another You tube warrior - Wow, you are so cool and scary and tough, I am very afraid. Listen fag, you and I both know I would kick your fucking ass and that you are obviously the little kid because think about it, if you really thought I was 13 or a little girl then what does that make you for picking on me for no reason in the first place??? You're just another fuckin loser kid who MAYBE just got done puberty and now thinks he owns the world.fuck u stop commenting to me.

  • @bjggjb In the future you need to mind your own fucking business you dipshit

  • @bjggjb And I won't be opening or reading anymore comments from a little fag so don't bother sending it, it won't be seen by me. I WIN

  • @PunkRockPat One more thing. I don't know how old you are and I could care less really. But I hope you're NOT older than 13 (or 12 actually) because judging by your writing, you're a retard if you're older than that (or at least kinda immature and mentally slow.) "Just sayin", you understand...

  • @bjggjb Too true. The lions have to eat, and so do the herdsmen. If we have to pay the herdsmen not to kill the lions, the money has to come from somewhere.

  • @Desperada57 Thanks (at least one person commenting here has a smidgen of common sense when it comes to wildlife management!)

  • If I had the time available, I would listen to this beautiful song by Canadian great singer Bruce Cockburn, all day long; I've loved it since I first heard it in the '70s.

  • One of the coolest songs ever....ever....

  • The lions are everywhere... just SEE them.

  • This song is about God, not lions.

  • @samslick90 this has nothing to do with god or any other bullshit story like that

  • @ikeing Sorry, I guess Bruce got it wrong.

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Best Video on Youtube!!

  • Bruce hit #21 in Billboard, 6-7-80. God bless ya, brother Bruce. Thanx, OddPirate, for postin' it.

  • i hope my grand daughter never has to wonder where the lions are.

  • This song shows us all the disrespectfullness of all life. even our own lives.

    HOW SAD!!!!

  • That is a stupid video. Such a smart song and such a dumb video.

  • that was his name....but the c is silent....its koeburn or coburn long just fyi

  • i don't think that was his real name.

  • CITIZENS OF THE WORLD, PLEASE SAVE THE LION.

  • Songs like this put me in my "Hippie Mood", where everything is beautiful and all you wanna do is hug trees & save the animals...

  • @lunareclipse0629 Dude, I am always in my "Hippie Mood"! This song just makes it come out even more. I love it so much. It's just so beautiful. I want to go dance in fields and sit in trees and stare at the stars. I also want to go find the lions. Anyone know where they are?

  • America is blessed.

  • @BeavisII Bruce is Canadian...blessed is Canada!

  • @thegwennage I ment the continent. :P

  • 9 people have apparently found the lions

  • I can't believe Neal Young was nominated for 3 grammy awards this year,, Bruce is a Canadian muscial genious! He's one reason canada is as great as it is,,,, not to mention one hell of a humanitarian!

  • One of the all time greats!!! I love lions......

  • An intelligent and articulate songsmith.

  • one of the best guitarists ever

  • it is calming! i like it too :)

  • @HUTINAK I think some of them were in Peggy's kitchen too

  • Bruce was ahead of his time....when i was young we didnt want to here songs that were this deep and made you see truth.

    His songs are sick!!!

  • This song is about the lions that have gone missing in Tokyo, that were nearly extinct from a rocket launcher, on the coldest night of the year, because a tree fell in the forest.

  • @HUTINAK .... LOL...(i needed that...) ty

  • sorta curious about the 9 who disliked this. go back to your slayer videos

  • Reminds me of college in the 80's. Wish somebody would post peggy's kitchen wall.

  • Windrose777 Bruce wrote the damn song.....It's not an adaptation!!!!

  • I'll comment, it's a brilliant adaptation of my favorite song,

  • ER

i know this music from a ER episode

  • Thanks so much for posting this!!!! BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lions are inVancouver. Not the football team. Two stone formations on the mountains that look like lions.

  • The same question the zebra and the wilderbeast ask, "I wonder where them lions are?"

  • The lions moved to Detroit.

  • you tube the new wave lag Queen

  • Lets start roaring at them powers that be.

  • COCKBURN = awsum name

  • ...I hope that's not like an Indian burn!

    Awesome song, awesome pictures!

  • I love this song. I have a live acoustic cover version by Michael Hedges, and it has been my alarm tone for the last 3 years or so. It's an absolute pleasure to wake up to this song :)

I, too, am wondering where the lions are...

  • What a gazelle might say in the morning? Where are those lions?

  • What a gazelle might sing? Where are those damn lions?

  • Awesome video! Very much enjoyed by my daughter and I. Over here on Vancouver Island.

  • Sunday Morning Reflection Music...Thanks for posting. I am constantly amazed at how many songs as a kid I must have listened to

  • I wonder, as well!

    Great song, awesome talent!

  • @santamara Great song and awesome video!!

Thank you for sharing santamara, and OddPirate for posting!

  • Bruce, don't know about now but VERY religious at the time, is using a biblical reference in this song. Wondering were the Lions are? As in Early Christians standing powerless in the arena, waiting for the lions to be released. It is a political song there's no doubt about it. He used biblical symbolism in one way or another in most of his early stuff.

  • @BrianScottActor I don't know whether this is a political song at all, I only feel joy and ecstasy listening to it. Bruce's 2 later songs If I had a rocket launcher and They call it democracy are his more strident political staple. I agree that his early symbolism was more biblical but I think and hope that he has grown past this bronze age mythology.

  • Bruce is simply put "A Music Man" Like a Gordon Lightfoot Both are Canadian and highly talented Thanks for sharing

  • I love this song, it makes me sad to watch this video as so many of these majestic creatures have been reduced to performing in circus' and have been killed for their skin. Mankind has got to be the worst species on this planet.

5 stars for the Video and the song.

  • love this song in in hoot

  • LOVE this song.....haven't heard since like '02,..... but its' sooo upbeat and relaxing ! Could listen to over and over.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Such a simple project

    But great pictures and song

    Bruce cockburn is awesome

  • this is a long-time favorite of mine. bruce wrote it. And in an interview I heard, he said it had something to do with an awareness of the potential of nuclear holocaust. Funny, because it's so peaceful...but definitely about accepting death as part of life instead of always being afraid.

  • Comment removed

  • nice song

  • it was in the kids' movie Hoot. They credited it to Jimmy Buffet. Tell me Bruce wrote it

  • Bruce definitely wrote it

maybe somewhat inspired by the "lions", three humps of mountain over Vancouver, of "Lion's Gate Bridge". I think "All the Diamonds" was off the same album,

lot's of BC imagery, up in the firs, etc

  • I met Bruce, nice guy.

  • I met him a few times a couple years ago... yup... nice guy !!!

  • ah Bruce - I used to fantasize of marrying you!

  • Donovan Frankenreiter's version is amazing!

  • yea it is im gona put it up to hell, because i cant find another that version on youtube

  • just realized i cant because i have an mp4 version , if u can put it up go for it

  • We are those Lions of people screaming their brains out to so we can see lions lay down with the lambs?

  • this song was in ER in season 6 :))))) very nice

  • Been a long time since I heard this song...love this song...

  • Great movie video. Song a classic always.... awesome photographs. well done(!)

  • It's pronounced "Koe-burn" but I expect the kids in school didn't care... Music is, as always, terrific...

  • Thanks Hogger999, i thought Bruce was a Christian but did'nt know for sure, explains his "Stealing Fire" album, and Making Contact

  • my teacher sang this for my class on the last week of school. good memories!

  • yep donovan's cover is great, this is a nice track.but im totally hooked on frankenreiter's version

  • Who on earth is Frankenreiter, you've made me curious.

Can hardly imagine someone could top this original of BC.

    :)

  • surfer390111 thankyou, ive been showing people donnies for years and no-one listens. He did a great cover and please anybody reading this listen to donnies cause it is trully magic. I want him to come to down to Australia again, I missed 'im.

  • cockburn must have sucked as a name in middle school

  • tell me about it, can u just imagine how many bad nicknames u can get with a last name like that?

  • @Everfog You're an idiot!!! Go listen to your shit that you listen to, moron

  • @Everfog You're an idiiot! Go listen to your own crap!

  • @Everfog Him being gay is a rumor, learn to research.

  • @alistairproductions No, kid's weren't as ignorant or stupid then & recognized that it's pronounced KOE-bərn; not that I'd expect you to be able to pronounce that either because you probably have fetal alcohol syndrome.

  • @lolshitty how would the kids just know how it's pronounced?

  • @alistairproductions I'm glad my name is Willie Hung

  • He grew up in Canada, where the pronunciation would be obvious as they are not so monolingual as people from the States.

  • @lakshmiqueen Trust me i grew up in Canada and we are every bit as ignorant about pronunciation as Americans

  • @hanksnow82 checkout the word orthoepy :)

  • @alistairproductions His name is pronounced "Co-burn".

  • Fortunately he grew up in Canada, where the pronunciation would be obvious as culturally they are not so ignorant and monolingual as we folks from the States.

  • @alistairproductions It's pronounced "Co burn." Why the spelling, I have no idea.

  • @speakwhnspkn2 People with embarassing names often change the pronunciation to make them less embarrassing.

  • @alistairproductions lol really

  • @alistairproductions it is pronounced CO-Burn bro

  • @cooliopiekids I know it is. But I imagine immature kids would still poke fun just by how it looks on paper.. Don't ya think?

  • I read an interview in which he said the kids called him "Cokeburn" (that's apparently close to the original Scottish pronunciation which would have a gutteral "ch" as in "loch".

  • @alistairproductions

yep - though my surname was translated into Hahnenbrand in middle school in Germany.

I was in my late twenties when I met Americans who giggled at my surname.

(No family of Bruce Cockburn, though I may wish )!

    :)

  • I used to listen to this song on my AM radio, before my mom smashed it.....another story for another day, but loved this song as a kid.

  • I saw Bruce on a Canadian talk show. He said when he wrote this song he had recently became a Christian. Hence like the romans feeding the christians to the lions.

  • how did any of you guys first discover this great song? I only heard it because its on the soundtrack of the film HOOT. I squinted at the end credits and saw that it was by Bruce Cockburn, then I looked it up on good old Youtube, yay!

  • glad ya asked-heard it in a record store 20 plus yrs ago-been a fan ever since

  • It was on an episode of ER where I first heard it.

  • Donavan Frankenritter did great cover.

  • gosh i love this song.

  • "Won't want any names sounding like a Penis now would we westman2003??..haha... Cock Burn..OUCH!!"

What are you, 12 years old? Grow up

Anyways, I love this song, and its got a message to it like most of Bruce's songs. I heard it on the radio to work this morning.

  • un funny.

  • hey, fuck off

  • No seriously, if you want to make a joke about that at least be original, I'm sure he's herd that before.

  • who's joking?

  • Look, don't try to justify yourself. At least it stands out.

  • MC shit stain stands out too, doesn't mean it's a good name.

  • love this video.the pictures are awesome.great song

  • Love this song!

  • I saw Bruce on the street a few weeks ago in my hometown of Kingston , Ontario. Drives a big blue eco friendly van. I was too scared to approach him , lol. What a great Canadian talent. We are lucky to have you Bruce.

  • Why is his name pronounced Bruse "Coburn" (Rhymes with Toe Burn).

From the spelling it should be Cockburn (Ryhmes with Rock Burn)

  • Won't want any names sounding like a Penis now would we westman2003??..haha... Cock Burn..OUCH!!

  • Depends on interpretation.

A cock is a rooster basically, and a proud, Scottish emblem, too, with a ring of fire around it.

    ;)

  • The chap is brilliant, no matter how one wishes to interpret his surname.

  • I'm 45 and I remember when this song came out. It was great then...and it's superb now. Thanks Bruce!

  • Yeah....t realistic warning that we should be aware !!!

For the night is far spent and the new day si at hand ..

Oh well I prefer to live in the now !!!!! Hers to YOU all ..a neural natural HIGH ...may be..

  • I'm 45 and had never heard this song until today when a local station played it. Awesome song, can't get enough of it. I need to get out more. Thanks :)

  • if you have to say it . i already know .

  • even better blow job. thanks bruce

  • This isn't calming...it's more a 'tap-your-foot-and-doo-doo-along-to-it' song.

  • This is such a pretty song I love this guy hes got a fan in me now!

  • his only top 40 hit....

  • ...only cuz hes Canadian. If he were an American and got the air time he deserved, he would have had #i hits- at least a few. If I had a rocket launcher for sure...music today blows! lol Older music is timeless!

  • Older Canadian greats are timeless, like lightfoot, the guess who, Cockburn, and the Band. We presently have write offs in Canadian music...with exceptions to hip-hop artist Shad.

  • dont forget a little band called RUSH

  • they were good wasnt a big rush fan but yeah they are good, i didnt intentionally leave them off like i did alannis morisette

  • such a simple song with so much meaning behind it, just like all of his music has. a Canadian Legend.

  • If only we all had our minds on eternity... what a wonderful world this would be.

  • There are lots of people with their minds on eternity...they're called "suicide bombers." Not everyone is as actualized as Bruce. Eternity can be dangerous in the wrong hands!

  • Just to loop your feedback skynet556, I was merely reflecting on the lyrical content not postulating on quasi-idolatry or opining on the particularity of the so-called "war on terror" or other ideologies promoted by fearmongers... and just so we are clear on this, since I myself do not know the artist personally, I'm not in a position to remark on the level of actualization he has reached. Perhaps you are better acquainted.

  • SuddenSparkles,I think that anyone who can weave such a nuanced and compelling allegory must be fairly actualized. If anything, the omnipresent "war on terror" and proliferation of fear mongering makes this song more relevant than ever. Nevertheless, any ideology can be dangerous in the wrong hands. I'm ex-military and I've seen it. I appreciate the elegant response, though :)

  • wow! I just read that, and I have to say thats a really good comment. I never thought about it that way, I guess I take 'social actualization' for granted, being in such a lucky part of the world (Canada) Thanks for freshening up my perspective!

  • ...so true! Why cant we all just get along?...listen to working class hero by John Lennon, I think youd really like it...its such a powerful song!

  • This was the song that opened up the door for me to Bruce Cockburn. It was new and the local am station played it.

  • Just sent the vid to my grown kids. Hippie families went to the concerts. His aura glowed huge and white.

  • The "lions" refer to the chinese and Russians back in the day...he dreamt of a nuclear war and the chinese/russians were lions roaming the streets...when he woke up obviously there was no war, so he was "wondering where the lions are". LOL, as they say, you can look it up. Brilliant lyricist,

  • Are you serious? Knowing that kind of ruins the whole song for me. Now I'll be thinking of communism every time I hear this song. I hate that. How do you know this?

  • ...gotta love LSD!!! LOL

  • I LOVE this video!! Thanks! K

  • hi anyone want to chat

hi anyone want to chat hc

  • love this song

"some kind of ecstasy's got a hold on me"

    WOO! thanx for posting

    PS. i love CND!

  • I doubt whether song has anything to do with actual lions.

  • Me too my friend.
