@PunkRockPat The worst threat to lions aren't hunters (who pay upwards of 10,000 USD to shoot a lion); it's the impoverished local herdsmen and farmers who have taken to poisoning lions due to livestock predation.

Saving these creatures will take MONEY to pay rangers to guard them from poachers, and money to pay the locals to not set out poison. The biggest source of said money? HUNTING. Like it or not, we may have to allow a number of lions to be shot each year to save the species.

Bruce, don't know about now but VERY religious at the time, is using a biblical reference in this song. Wondering were the Lions are? As in Early Christians standing powerless in the arena, waiting for the lions to be released. It is a political song there's no doubt about it. He used biblical symbolism in one way or another in most of his early stuff.
