And that's why, in that one scene before Han goes out looking for Luke (when he says, "We'll have to go out on tauntauns") the tauntaun in the foreground isn't in labor. She OD'd on cookies. And Luke's tauntaun didn't smell the wompa, she smelled the cookies he had just picked up from the store.
