Ah, THIS must be why "The Hungry Glass" does not appear intact here - that annoying copy-right-y stuff, hence my only finding that last three minutes of it-! And now I am curious what episode the above images were from! Maddening!
@CrashingCrockery "The Grim Reaper". The whole series is out on DVD which makes the copyright stuff even worse. When people put up the whole thing it just gets taken down. It happened with this one.
I'm an outer limits and twilight zone fan! thriller in someways is superior to twilight zone!...film noir just adds to the cold gothic creepiness...and the occult is everywhere! (1000 time superior to night gallery!) wow!
thriller is high quality gothic terror served up cold! (just saw john newland in return of mr. bentley or some title...) excellent!...how can a 50 year old tv anthology be far superior to anything today?...ghost stories are timeless and the fear of death and the spirit world haunts us all! forever!...
The eerie, powerful music of this episode perfectly complemented the climax of each scene. "The Grim Reaper", along with "The Weird Tailor", was one of the best episodes of the series.
This will no doubt be debatable to some, but in my opinion this Thriller episode "The Grim Reaper" is the single best thing ever produced by the entertainment media; television, Hollywood films, et cetera. It is essentially perfect: tight, very well acted, and genuinely frightening. Its intent is delivered 100%. For those who have never seen it please try and acquire a copy. Wait until late at night, turn off the lights, and watch it. It is an experience you will not forget.
Goldsmith.... as appreciated as he was.... he was still far underappreciated. His single Academy Award is a travesty.
To my mind, the greatest film composer ever, one of the best composers ever. Truly an astouding lifes work. He never seemed stuck in a comfort zone... always innovative. I wish we had more film of him working his craft... Bravo, Jerry...!
I bought the Thriller laserdisc box set in October 1994. It only had 6 episodes chosen at random, without such brilliant classics as The Hungry Glass and The Cheaters. I have a USB audio capture gadget to get the sound. It's called Xitel Inport.
-As far as isolating the sound goes, the musical theme for an episode of Thriller would run during the end credits. I added an extra bit from the dramatic finale to the beginning of the track.
This season of the made-for-TV "Thriller" was and is in a class by itself as far as the "horror" genre is concerned. None of the pathetic "shock-slash-gore" crap of the past 25 years; this stuff is genuinely frightening in all the right ways. Think of Poe or Lovecraft. Out of all that season's episodes I consider this one the best.
Nice work, Axecalibore! I guarantee if I saw that when I was a kid, it'd be no sleep for me! And,as I've said before, the Jerry Goldsmith music from Thriller is some of the best TV music ever composed. Why it's not available is a mystery.

@axecalibore Oh, I see now- thanks!...At least I know they are all available now, used to just be those few select VHS episodes.

This episode scared me to death as a youth and without all the computer gore, is far superior to the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone.

Because Thriller is finally coming out on DVD in august or something, so they're getting all copywritey about it. Good news and bad news.

It is a classic example of gothic horror written, directed, acted, and scored to perfection. "The Return of Andrew Bentley" is another.

Fans should also check out Goldsmith's musical contributons to both 'The Twilight Zone' and 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'

Frightened me as a child and still is chilling to watch! The music is the best of its genre.

How were you able to isolate the score like that...and the picture quality was awesome.

Brillant music to a brillant episode to a brillant, yet under-rated anthology. Please bring this show to dvd!!
