To my knowledge, (I have read his biography and met him), he did this manouver in an piston engined Aerocommander and never with the engines shut off. That is a misunderstanding. He may have done it as it is no different. But there is no video of him doing this trick with the engines off.
@dabb Around 2000 I saw a video of a pilot in, what I recall as a gliding Lear doing just that manouver. I'm probably wrong or else the pilot wasn't Bob. I'll try to find the book about him (didn't know there were any). Wikipedia writes that the engines were restarted after landing.
is that a yak -t-18?? Nice job, that can get messy for sure is you slip. He only said its the Bob Hoover maneuver, which RJ made famous on original video. ANd he did it perfectly-a one g barreling roll. Yes, RJ did it in the shrike and 8 pointed it sometimes, his first vid was a non point roll tho. I do a variation-throw a tennis ball up and keep it in floating above the panel. Great and non messy way to learn it. (that one is zero g)
Trench, piss off, my original birthplace isn't the united states so I have a little trouble with English. I'm sure the owner of this video doesn't want stupid slurs like this in his video anyway.
Mate, that was some cool flying. I'll never cease to be amazed at the substitutes that surface when someone posts a video that they have no hope of understanding, let alone repeating.
not quite as good as bob hoover, but still very, very, very impressive. bob hoover was quite possibly one of the best pilots ever, so even being able to pull off the moves that he did deserves a lot of credit.

Try it without the pitcher touching the glass, with the glass resting, not attached, and try it in a business twin, instead of an aircraft a monkey could roll.
To have a lot of fun (although an FAA examiner would be pissed) fly a larger airplane, and have some of the seats behind the cockpit removed.
Then, have a person lie down on the floor of the cabin and pull off a barrel roll, there's some fun. Just don't unload at the top!

@VIR092
or have a person hold on to the wing while doing a roll...
dabb 2 months ago
@dabb LOL, now there's an idea!
VIR092 2 months ago
@VIR092 we did it last year, here is my video of it: /etqcZ-sFhx4

Bob Hoover? Is he the one doing the 1G roll in a Lear with the engines cut off?

I imagine that could really screw with your avionics if you accidentally missed and soaked the instrument panel. Very impressive video...great job!

It's basically a barrel roll, isn't it?
MingGuoLi 3 years ago
yes, but its not the point of the trick. Its pouring a liquid into a glass while doing a barrel roll.
HorrorVG 3 years ago
and trying 2 get at least 1G taht way it dosn't spill everywhere
cjracer1000 3 years ago
To have the gravity do its job, do you just roll it, or do you roll it AND force the stick forward to induce the downward force?
KuostA 3 years ago
..I pull the stick backwards. You would spill the drink if you push the stick forward:)

HAHA okay I gotcha'. Thanks.

I can't believe it, he never said he was better than Bob. I think it was great.
You can't copy someone 100%, bringing that up is just plain non-sense.

Try shutting down your number two engine engine next time. I didn't see a sixteen point roll either... I still enjoyed it though, fly safe.

haha nice work, its not a shrike commander or whatever hoover flew but good effort none the less
