  • @quangluu96 It is amazing how many barriers have been broken. There was a 640K memory limit, and a 2 gb hdd partition limit, a 4 gb hdd size limit, a 32 GB limit, a 2 TB limit and more. Most of these were never even know by the general public, but were imposed by the bit limits of older chips and file structures. Clever engineers have saved the day every time. 3 TB drives hit the market and thanks to UEFI, they are even bootable.

  • @crazypcdude yeah...Someone said that Silicon chip is coming to an end, and they said it's impossible to go lower than 32nm since it's too much heat and unreliable anymore, so they need a new materials....Well, intel is creating the Ivy Sany Bridge which is 22nm :O. In technology, everything is possible, you just need a way to do it :)

  • The general idea of technology getting smaller/faster/cheaper IS valid for cellphones, LCD monitors, harddrives, etc for the past 10 years. Just 5 years ago it would be unheard to have a powerful smartphone that could do things like your laptop can. CPU's have not been keeping pace. My theory: intervention of the industry by government post-9-11. Simply put, you and I aren't getting access to the new cpu technology created by scientists anymore, because it makes the govs job more difficult.

  • @wakeupscreaming Interesting theory. You are certainly not the only one that thinks the big chip builders are holding back on us. I think it is more economically driven. Also, remember that Mhz isn't a valid benchmark anymore. When you factor in multi-core, multi-threading the benchmarks show the power trend is still valid. The transistor trend is still holding true on the Enterprise server side of things.

  • really nice presentation. i am actually writing an extended essay for the IB about Moore's law and this is a quite good way to be more familiar with it.
