He started out not the best of singers, because originally, he was the drummer, saxophonist and a trumpeter for The Commodores. But his voice had gotten really good by the time he recorded this song. Don't get me wrong...he sounded good on The Commodores songs because of his singing technique, but he really wasn't a "singer".

I don't think people appreciate the fact that Lionel is trying to spread a message in this song. He's not on about some sort of grandiose feeling you should conjure up to get ahead in life but he's referring to some sort of force out there that can help and facilitate you with your desires. It's happened to me when i've followed my intuition on many times and i'm a definite believer, but not because of wishful thinking. Skepticism has its place, but reserve it for Nick Clegg. Btw great song.

It was kind of an atypical beat for him, and he gave the beat more of a low end bass feel that hit harder and built on the funky vibe. It smartly used only part of the melody. That Dogg Pound's "I Don't Like To Dream About Paid" was definitely a surefire classic though. Man, I was just rereading your post, and thought about Nate Dogg. It's sad that he's gone, but the hooks he threw down on, ha ha!
