The expanded color edition of "WAGON TRAIN" was one of only THREE color series telecast on ABC's 1963-'64 schedule (the others: "THE FLINTSTONES" and Desilu's "THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH"). Had it been a success, there would have been another 90 minute color season. But opposite CBS' "LUCY SHOW", "DANNY THOMAS SHOW" (and "ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW" (and NBC's "MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES"), ABC simply didn't have the money to order another color season- so the series reverted to its original format.
I see Robert Fuller was billed over John McIntire. You know, both McIntire and the Ward Bond made dozens if not hundreds of movies but always in supporting roles. Neither played a leading role in any theatrically exhibited film. They had to settle for television.
Heavens to Murgatoid! I always get a thrill when I hear this classic TV theme song! The late great Jerome Moross wrote it; he also wrote the music for the epic 1950's movie western "The Big Country". Both have that wonderful "sweeping epic" feel to them! THANKS for posting this...you have no doubt MADE my day & my weekend!
I second that emotion, disabled1955! You're obviously a person of refinement & good taste! Hope you're enjoying a very pleasant & productive Labor Day holiday!
If you have The Widow O'Rourke Story and post it, I will be very happy. I still remember the melody of that particular show's theme. Thanks for reply.
I can't post it. That is about it. I don't have the necessary tools to do that. Did you know that you can purchase the 90 minute episodes from Timeless Movies.
@minnetrist i might, but knowing how picky Universal Studios is about their videos going up on YouTube, i don't wanna take the chance on getting shut down (again)...
Wagon Train is one of the all time best TV westerns ever produced, IMO. Others would be Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Thank you for posting. A joy to watch decent programming.

Jim and Tammy baker use to have a kids show out of the old CBN studios. They used this as their opening music.
