  • I wish I could play bass like Simon. What bass lines! I love how it is carrying the melody of a song instead of the guitar. He is my biggest inspiration in terms of playing bass and the main reason I bought my first bass guitar.

  • @ajittffcure ME TOO BUD!

  • one of the best basslines ever.. and that's just the case

  • what is robert saying before "anyway this is about any country u choose to live in..."

  • I remeber listening to this when I was 14. it has never lost its edge.

  • It's always great to hear "Another Journey By Train" along with "Jumping Someone Elses Train" They go hand in hand together.

  • Lol is no joke, he rocks!

(Anybody noticed he starts Grinding Halt like the song Secrets.)

  • 4:40 - 4:45, Simon genialnie przecież.

    Simon is great.

  • God, there's just something so.......surreal and legitimate about watching live performances on rotting magnetic VHS tape.

  • wow this is great I saw Bob when he was with Siouxsie and the banshees a million years ago and then the cure about 7 times over the years always a fun show even more people watching was fun .

  • 1 person had there train jumped

  • What album(s) are these songs from??????

  • @Shopola they're from the album Boys Don't Cry.

  • @80smoviesguy Thanks, I knew that by now though :) Been a Cure fan for 6 months and counting....

  • How can you not like this?

    Incredible band!!!

  • Between JSET & GH , "Another Journey by train "

    :)

  • of course Amsterdam is the only place Robert Smith can legally get inspiration

  • @rebelliousgamer hahahaha

  • one time I'll play bass along with this video.. it is just a longer way as the only song I can play is Grinding Halt yet... Another Journey By Train is like finished half.. but I can't really figure out JSET :(

still this is one of their best live performances and one of my favourite videos from them here... bob/simon/lol simply the best!

  • Geez this is old.

  • what a fucking brilliant band!!

they were so young!!! 18? 20?

  • @beschermengel So was I at the time! YEAH, they were a great band at the time, I don't know about now. And Lol wasn't a bad drummer at all. Wow this is fucking great!

  • Lol's change into grinding halt was smooth

  • miss the synths on "another journey by train"

  • Can't stop watching this video

  • Awsome performance. The rithm performing Another Journey... is absolutely mad. This sequence correctly shows how The Cure used to play until around 1984, when they definitely changed to a more kind of swing rithm, even when they were playing those early songs. This also proves that Lol wasn't as awkward as sometimes people apparently think. Excellent drums.

  • this is how is supposed to be heard jumping someone elses train to grinding halt it goes together is almost the same bass line

  • i like the lyrics

  • Simply superb! This is a pure "band" performance!

  • around 2.55 they go into Another Journey By Train which was a B Side. Cool!

  • so badass...

  • le falta un pedazo al final jaj..pero ta buenisimo.. son 3 temas.. grandioso Simon! great line bass!

the second song is "Another Journey by Train" :D

  • awesome bass line!

  • cos pięknego!!!!!!!!!

  • what a pleasure...the guitars (bas+solo in the middle)...

  • how deep i love you....THE CURe ALLWAYSssssssssss

  • I think the album version of Grinding halt isn't bad, but I prefere the one that is up here, the title is 'Grinding Halt (demo version)' maybe its a live performance someone could check that maybe as I can't really tell but it sounds better (if that is even possible..) and I really like it like that! The album version is kinda thin.. great but a bit too thin.

anyway I really love this style of the Cure.. but I kinda prefer the depressive stuff a bit more.. pornography era seemed incredible!

  • I love this era of the cure when they were a 3 piece band. if i start a band, i prefer to stick to 3 piece line-up. the sound is simple and it rocks and this song, "Grindin Halt" had always one of my favorite from their debut album. Everything about this song is simple. It gives me a really positive feeling. i had really horrible night. Was in a brawl and I hurt myself up pretty bad. i was feeling dizzy and sick in the morning, this song "Cure-ed" all that

  • very cool..........

  • Great ending of 'Grinding Halt'.

  • wow...wonderful

  • one of the best Cure clips out there. Fantastic.

  • Wonderful 80s!!!

    The Cure, loving them!

  • einai gamatoi THE CURE one of the best groups ever F*cking good

  • Robert,Lol,Simon= The Greatest!!!

  • punk cure

  • Gallup 2- Hook 0

  • would love to see these songs live

  • Esto es The Cure..!!!

  • The Cure at this period was the best

Lol, Simon and Robert were the best together, If I could back to the past to heard this full concert in Netherland...

  • I will allways like the way "jumping someone else's train" moves into "another journey by train" and they do it best live. very nice recording.

  • I like this song and more extended...much better

full improvisation and instrumental with other

    chords...

this song is really really good

  • I think the band should release some of those early performances on dvd someday. The Clash has done it, so ...

But it is still awesome to see them here.

Lol was the best for that kind of music, but now Jason is , to my taste, an excellent drummer for what The Cure has become. I think he is very good, no matter what, anyway ... I believe the band always had great drummers, each in their own style. I love the last cd, bye !

  • Fuckin hell how cool Robert Smith looked pre-the makeup.

  • Comment removed

  • One of the aspects I admire about Robert is that his spirit is still the same even now as it was back then in the late 1970s when they started.

  • A linha vocal da música parece um pouco diferente da original. Mesmo assim é ótima essa versão!

  • Damn ppl bangs their heads as if it's Maiden playing..

The fuck has happened to kids today? THey seem to sleep at concerts..

  • This is the cure on his best. Specially the change form "jumping" to "yourney" has always been a highlight to me at cure live concerts i wittnessed in that area. That bass-loop.... great.

  • alright u fucks look LOL IS A FUCKING BADAS DRUMMER SOBER OR NOT SO FUCKING IN THE DICK OUT YOUR MOUTH AND ASS IDIOTS The cure went downhill after lol stopped druming the cure just didnt have that fucking punksound kik sound it went downnn

  • Yeah, that ONE beat of his was just amazing! (Sarcasm intended, if you didn't catch that)

  • There's only one word 4 this !!!FAT!!!

  • Simon gallup is amazing , another journey by train

  • Yes Yes! I can sit for hours in this bass-train!

  • tollhurst is on fire... reminds me of bill berry

  • fantastic playing from all three of them! what a pefect example of minimalist cure, i enjoyed this lineup.

just goes to show that Lol's simple and minimal beats were important to that era of cure. and he was sober here, so he played alot better

  • I love the bass playing on this song...good tone too....this is by far my favorite era of the Cure! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks Drew for this video. Enjoyed watching Grinding halt! Lol is a great drummer!

  • R. Smith looks so much better with his hair styled like he has it in this video...

    Man I love the Cure.

  • i DO know about cure´s history .......and i know what robert´s think about jason. But i tell you that my sister plays better than him.jason´s style ashames anyone with a little bit of taste

  • i love the bass on another journey by train, i love simon, of course i love robert. The cure is the best band ever!!

  • I was 3 months ......jOoOOoOOooO...mummyyyyyy....

  • And I was three years old.

  • Just watch the beauty of drumming as of 02:06!

Aie aie aie brilliant! Lol must have surely been underrated at the time! He's way much better than Boris and Jason! Wish he could return some day even for just a reunion!

    I

  • I just love The Cure old and new!

  • you are wrong, boris was the best drummer, and Robert himself has said that Lol was very bad at the drums. If he returns, i hope he plays the keyboard.

  • Robert Smith said in an interview that the reason Lol's drumming sounded as good as it did on the dark trilogy is that Simon helped him with his drum parts in the studio. That doesn't say much for his drumming skills.

  • perteriiino, you are right! Lol was a great drummer for the cures rock style music..Boris was also good, but more for the pop style cure music. But Jason......is pretty bad! Or should I say....Truly Awful

  • I totally agree with you mate! Boris was also fabulous indeed!

  • Wisk I was rollin' to this in 1988 all over again!

  • la neta que super banda en esos tiempos lastima que yo no los vivi

  • I´ve cried!!

really touching-and they were 19-20 ....nice drumming Lol (jason should watch it....grrr)

  • jason is much better than lol, ask robert!! you should read the comments of robert about lol as drummer. Anyway Boris Williams has been the best drummer ever!!

  • wow! thanks drewsboo for this vintage clip...they are fucking rocking the joint!

  • Wish I was there...

  • That's exactly what i feel.

  • rear vid!

  • a la merga tan mamalonas supero epocas regresen!!!!!!!!

  • listen to what he is saying

  • Happy Holidays!

  • Now THATS what you call instrument endurance. All three of them are just banging away on their instruments. The drummer especially looked like he had incredible endurance.

  • So great if compared to how they play live nowadays. Seriously. I would gladly replace Jason with Boris or even with Lol.

  • Totally agree with you. Jason must be replaced!

  • Well, everybody gets old and playing live is very tiring

  • jazzmaster i think. nice anyway

  • is that american vintage or jazzmaster?

  • Hi lifeisadeadend-sorry mate, what is that?

  • lol is the original drummer/composer turned-keyboardist of the cure. He left the band after Robert expulse him because of alcohool abuse and slackerism during recording sessions making him impossible to work with. All end up with a lawsuit from tolhurst against the band over royalties payments.

  • lifeisadeadend - They are touring again : )

  • G_d Bless the Cure and all their fans!

  • This is when Robert thought the band sucked...and the media didn't understand them...so underrated...I love The Cure and can't see why the critics were so harsh.

  • Actually the media, with few exceptions, were pretty favorable to them at this time. And he didn't think they "sucked" but he wasn't quite satisfied.

  • Oh. Well thats different. Nervmind.

  • Robert's voice was perfect at that time!!

    and Simon simply the best

  • omg is that neils children??? HAHAHAH

  • So he does sing in his own voice.

  • incredible - wish I was there!

  • Robert looks so young!

    Good ol' days

  • oh robert, how much i love you, you are the best

  • does anybody know what two chords robert is playing between 4:20 and 4:40? I like the sounds of that.

  • this song is called another journey by train, you can find it in join the dots b-sides and rarities, disc one. or in 17 seconds limited edition disc two.

  • Dm & A#

  • who the hell cares if your bi sexual ya knobhead!!!

  • Fukk, I have forgotten about Grinding halt, one of my favorites, lol, I heard this song for first time when I was 6 yrs old back on my countrie Peru, and I loved it , Cure is awesome.

  • whats with peru and cure? so many fans!

  • Well. back on those times, we used to have a program like MTV , actually in that program was aired the first music video clip, and Cure was on vogue, although you have to be senseless if u dont like Cure. c yap

  • Great gig! Robert Smith announcing to the crowd about 'Griding Halt' was also special. Very tight playing from The Cure. It must have been such fun for Simon to play the bass! Simon Gallup is one of the most distinctive and amazing bass players. I bought an electric bass two months agao and I will definitely try both these tracks.

  • best cure punk/new wave sound

    stronger than their later stuff

  • robert is so fucking good, i love him!!!! the best band

  • Fantastic...

  • all fans of the cure my name RAUL, im bisexual mi mail jraulbuelna@hotmail com
