  • Arrgh, it is a crime that he never recorded this!

  • @drtmuir Yes!!! And that he was never filmed in that role - shame!

  • @interpreterr Especially since Don Carlo (the Italian version) is on at the Met now, and people are scrambling around to find past recordings/videos to brush up on the piece and get a frame of reference. I hear that Keenlyside has done very well as Posa elsewhere, but I am starting to think the Met just eats up his voice.

  • @drtmuir Did you see/hear that DC at the Met?

  • @interpreterr Yes-- I think that DC is one of those pieces that leave such huge impressions on people that they build it up in their memories, and when they see it later, it never measures up (although the orchestra was fantastic, and that is a big deal). Alagna was very good, although I am shallow enough that it always drives me crazy that he is so tiny. Furlanetto was simply awesome. What was weird was that this was the first DC I can remember where hardly anyone mentioned Eboli afterward.

  • @drtmuir And how was Posa?

  • @interpreterr Well, it was Keenlyside, and he wasn't at his best.
