hell no moroccans are not like khaliji ; yeah you can't understant the dialect because is so far from arabic as so many other arab countries and maybe you understan egypt or lebanese because you watch their movies or something like that but it doesn't mean thier dialect is understandable to others;i don't understand khaliji at all a little bit of lebanese and egypt and syria is beautiful and the rest i don't think i understand them or even head them and i don't care; y we r talking bout morocan
They all agreed this clip better than the first one and they are right. Congrats that you made new one nobody did it before so you had the courage for that and why not always in thought in this idea before so i'm glad my favorite ... did it.

I was wondering why some Lebanese songs sound slightly different from each other--I suppose some of the songs by Lebanese singers are actually in Egyptian Arabic. It makes sense, though, since it's so widely understood. Is Lebanese Arabic understood outside of the Levant?
@shunkahato Yeah, that's right. Almost all of Lebanese singers sing half of their hits in Egyptian (Nancy Ajram, Elissa, Nawal al Zoghbi).
Lebanese is almost identical to Syrian/Palestinian as well, but the accent is a bit "smoother" - some say it sounds a bit French. Some think it's the nicest.
It is widely understood now due to Lebanon being the most liberal country in the region, so lots of media comes from Lebanon now...not as widely as Egyptian, but the second most understood for sure.

@shunkahato If you are more interested in this subject - as doubtless you are - you might want to check out the wikipedia articles on Egyptian Arabic and Lebanese Arabic. It confirms what Nated0gggg says.
On another note - I am learning Arabic myself - the Egyptian dialect; having been told that it is the most widely spoken and understood prompted me to run a search to confirm for myself the validity of this statement. Any detractors?
@shunkahato I think the reason that 99.9999% of singers sing in Egyptian is because Egyptian is the most spoken dialect and most media comes from Egypt so almost all Arabic speakers understand it perfectly. Many also understand Lebanese perfectly, but not as many as Egyptian. I guess it's the best way to reach a wider audience.
The reason so many are singing in Khaliji now is probably for economic reasons I guess...lol
@nated0gggg I guess it would be a good idea for artists to sing in Khaliji for economic reason...then again, if it is very difficult for the singers to sing in Khaliji well, the idea could go against them in Khaliji speaking countries. Is Khaliji understood outside of the UAE and Gulf States?
@shunkahato You would think that's true, lol, but many many singers have recorded Khaliji albums and singles in the past 5 or so years especially and are not very good at it. It's different grammatically, accent-wise and vocab wise, so it can be sort of understood in the very basic forms.
Lebanese/Egyptian singers with current songs in Khaliji:
@nated0gggg Its interesting to see the marketing strategies of the music industry in the Middle East. Do you think that songs sung in Khaliji by Lebanese artists are popular in Khaliji speaking countries?
Thank you for the list! I heard Ya Kethar, and thought there was something different from Nancy Ajram's other songs, but I couldn't place it exactly. I'm looking the songs up right now. =)
@shunkahato Good question. It does give them a name in Khaliji countries, but from what I know they really appreciate singers who do it well (Asala, Yara, Thekra, Mona Amarsha are all very popular). Singers who don't do so well at it are kind of not as well noticed, I think.
@shunkahato But Khaliji people definitely do listen to Lebanese and Egyptian music! :-)
It's funny, after having this conversation with you I asked my Emirati friend to listen to those singers singing in Khaliji and tell me if they were good (I'm no expert at it) and he said that Nancy Ajram is very very bad (especially Ya Kethar) with the accent...it's clear that she doesn't make much effort. But because she is so popular in the region, anything she touches will be popular :-)
@sairamnagarajan Yeah, I think you're right actually. I should've clarified. Ya Kather was REALLY bad in my opinion, but Meshtaga Leek was significantly better.
By the way, I'm no Khaliji expert =s
But Myriam Fares' new song Min 3youni shows she has improved quite a lot in Khaliji. It seems like she's really put in effort to perfect it.
Mona Amarsha and Asala Nasri, in my opinion, are the best right now. Yara and Asma Lamnawer are in there too.
I am no Khaleeji expert myself. However having lived been born there, and living for a few years in the Gulf has left an indelible impression about the accent, I find Khaleeji a lot more like "real" Arabic from a foreigners point of view, you know? In fact, I had never heard Lebanese or Egyptian Arabic until about a year ago, never having thought the media comparison to actual conversation with an Omani or Emirati :)
I agree. Myriam Fares IMO is the best of the lot at the moment.
Respond to this video... But such an odd voice and choice of videos. Elissa is bearable - but she sounds TERRIBLE in any other language than Lebanese Arabic. I find that I will still return to Nancy anyday - it's just that she has class, sass and pizzazz :P
@nated0gggg Oh I didn't mean Egyptian or Lebanese, it's a given they are supposed to be good at those :) I meant that she tried this French song called Je suis malade.. oh my god. Let's not even go there! But I did like some videos of Elissa's, very classy :) A'a Bali Habibi and Agmal Ehsas for starters!
@sairamnagarajan Oh haha, that's cool. I love all her albums, but on her last album especially "masdouma" "fi shi enkassar" "law feye" and "ma 3ash wala kan" were amazing :-)
By the way, I feel sorry for Iwan...basically none of the conversation on this clip is about him :-p haha
@shunkahato There are some singers who sing amazingly well in Khaliji:
Yara (Lebanese) - Ma room, Sekkar zayada, all songs from her last album
Asala (Syrian) - Ela mata, sawaha galbi
Zekra (rip) (Tunisian) - many songs
Mona Amarsha (Moroccan) - Ya yama habeito, ya 3asal
Moroccan singers are famous for singing very well in Khaliji...actually in all, because Moroccan dialect is super hard to understand. Search this video "Moroccan singers singing in different dialects". Pretty interesting :-)
@nated0gggg I agree, they sing very well, I especially enjoyed Asala's songs and Ya yama habeito (I've been looking for this song for a month but I didn't know what it was called until now!) And yes, the Moroccan sounds very similar (at least to me) to Khaliji. Thank you so much for taking the time to give a list of these songs--you have been more than helpful and very patient with all of my incessant questioning. =)
@shunkahato Asala and Mona Amarsha are really great at it :-)
Moroccan isn't really similar to Khaliji at all, but the Moroccans have more common sounds I guess to Khaliji...and also their dialect is almost impossible for other Arabs to understand so maybe that makes them accustomed to learning to imitate others :-)
@shunkahato the arab language is full of different dialects: from lebanese to egyptian to khaleegi ( which is the dialect of kuwait, aue, Saudi arabia etc, and thats what this song uses) lebanese dialect is what he normally sings becasue he's lebanese and it sounds great, the khaleegi dialect is too think and doesnt suit him although it might sound great on others just not him... just think of it as a singer from england trying to sing in the american dialect, it just might not sound as good
@RihamBal I see what you mean. Khaliji sounds like a very challenging dialect, and it would be very difficult to sing in it if the singer is not a native speaker of the dialect. Thank you for your explanation! =-)

Singers who don't do so well at it are kind of not as well noticed, I think.
nated0gggg 8 months ago
@shunkahato But Khaliji people definitely do listen to Lebanese and Egyptian music! :-)
It's funny, after having this conversation with you I asked my Emirati friend to listen to those singers singing in Khaliji and tell me if they were good (I'm no expert at it) and he said that Nancy Ajram is very very bad (especially Ya Kethar) with the accent...it's clear that she doesn't make much effort. But because she is so popular in the region, anything she touches will be popular :-)

@nated0gggg Really? I thought Ya Kather could use some improvement, but I found Meshtaga Leek fabulous - do you really consider that badly performed?
sairamnagarajan 8 months ago
@sairamnagarajan Yeah, I think you're right actually. I should've clarified. Ya Kather was REALLY bad in my opinion, but Meshtaga Leek was significantly better.
By the way, I'm no Khaliji expert =s
But Myriam Fares' new song Min 3youni shows she has improved quite a lot in Khaliji. It seems like she's really put in effort to perfect it.
Mona Amarsha and Asala Nasri, in my opinion, are the best right now. Yara and Asma Lamnawer are in there too.
What do you think?

@nated0gggg Mona Amarsha - Weinak
Asalah Nasri - Ela Mata
These are great Khaliji songs, in my opinion.

@nated0gggg

I find that I will still return to Nancy anyday - it's just that she has class, sass and pizzazz :P
sairamnagarajan 8 months ago
@sairamnagarajan haha, I LOVE Elissa! She is my favourite Arabic singer! Do you really think she's bad in Egyptian? I think she does pretty well! :-p
It's funny that not many of the guys shuffle around dialects to such an extent as the female singers do...
nated0gggg 8 months ago

@nated0gggg I am going to download her new album right now :)
Well, one can hardly help it - the number of views they get is like testament to their popularity!

Pretty interesting :-)
nated0gggg 8 months ago
@nated0gggg I agree, they sing very well, I especially enjoyed Asala's songs and Ya yama habeito (I've been looking for this song for a month but I didn't know what it was called until now!) And yes, the Moroccan sounds very similar (at least to me) to Khaliji. Thank you so much for taking the time to give a list of these songs--you have been more than helpful and very patient with all of my incessant questioning. =)
shunkahato 8 months ago
@shunkahato Asala and Mona Amarsha are really great at it :-)
Moroccan isn't really similar to Khaliji at all, but the Moroccans have more common sounds I guess to Khaliji...and also their dialect is almost impossible for other Arabs to understand so maybe that makes them accustomed to learning to imitate others :-)
nated0gggg 8 months ago
@shunkahato the arab language is full of different dialects: from lebanese to egyptian to khaleegi ( which is the dialect of kuwait, aue, Saudi arabia etc, and thats what this song uses) lebanese dialect is what he normally sings becasue he's lebanese and it sounds great, the khaleegi dialect is too think and doesnt suit him although it might sound great on others just not him... just think of it as a singer from england trying to sing in the american dialect, it just might not sound as good
RihamBal 8 months ago
@RihamBal I see what you mean. Khaliji sounds like a very challenging dialect, and it would be very difficult to sing in it if the singer is not a native speaker of the dialect. Thank you for your explanation! =-)
