I prefered Gothic 3 over Oblivion. In Oblivion everything looked and felt so generic and the dungeons looked all the same. I liked the atmosphere in Gothic 2 & 3 a lot better. Don't know why, but I enjoy Skyrim a lot more than Oblivion so far.

i don't like the way gothic 3 and 4 pause all the time when your running. you can play oblivion on half the computer you need for gothic 3 and 4. i loved the storyline in both and graphics. oblivion is a faster paced games with quick killing. gothic 3 is a game you take your time on. (oblivion assassins guild rocks).
i wish all of the elder scrolls and gothics and any other open world rpg game out there would take off the difficulty setting. I hate there being an easy setting

Graphically, both are great. Oblivion perhaps a bit better at some textures, but the world in Gothic 3 is much better, more realistic, with big canyons or rocky hills, instead of big slopes like in Oblivion. Gameplay-wise it's up to one's taste, like Gothic better myself, yet first person view is much better in Oblivion (while third person is better in Gothic). Long story short? Both are good games, I like them. Now we must wait - Skyrim or Risen 2?

my gothic is pretty badly glitched. the quests are somtimes broken and some of the pages of my journel for example the recipe page. never show up when i click on them. and often the quests in my quest log disapear as well. at least oblivion dosnt have this problem. also whenever i try and block with a sheild on gothic the attacker still wins a hit. plus fighting multiple enemies is more practical on oblivion. cus the charicter dosnt go "ugh" and shy back on evry hit.
Oblivion is gorgeous, and it set the bar fro game sin its genre for graphics when it was released. Personalty I prefer the Gothic series game play wise.

Just to say: Gothic 3 combat system is a bit hard to get used to, and pretty anoying when u first start. Mostly part of the realistic gameplay. I love it tho ^_^

@SaucisseMerguez Ya they both a bit different, I never played gothic 1 but if I can buy a game and play it atleast 2 times is not a waste of money for me imo and thats what gothic is like for me its ok. What really kills it for me is the non existent character building and limited side quests. Gothic 4 was a nice looking game but they drop the ball on that one and made it into a very linear game witch really killed it for me, if it was more like 3 or 2 it would of been ok.

Gothic 3 has more epic adventure, better story and characters, good magic powers, variety of environments (snow, forest and desert), great music and graphics. More enjoyable game all around even tough Oblivion is pretty good, then again Oblivion is weaker than Morrowind...
If you go up vs the RPG king TES you lose every time, It’s a fact that they are the king they have a much higher fan base. Now gothic 4 might look great but wait until skyrim comes out it will absolutely rape it. They screwed up in gothic 4 and made it way too linear game play

@SaucisseMerguez maybe but when your looking at mass # you got gothic around 3/4 of a million vs 5 million with tes. This is why TES is nicknamed rpg king no one can come close to their success rate. I wouldn't say that gothic is more story driven at all I played 2,3 and 4 but I admit the faction system they had was better then tes as many cults in tes (most) are neutral and would have no conflicts with each other.

@rubinyokiller Well, one thing, Oblivion is much more well known then Gothic, at least in the USA, and Gothic doesn't need mods to be a great game, I personally think Oblivion needs mod to just reach the level of Decency.

Gothic has better graphics, much better soundtrack but for excample Oblivion has ( in my opinion) better story, and quests. Both are good games. I love all Gothic's (without Arcania which isnt't real gothic, but fucking crap) but from TES series I only like Oblivion. I think that both are quite different but both are worth to play.
Oblivion ( with mods ) ... is something worth playing. The graphic mods ( worth 10 gb. ) will enchant the game so bad, that you will see the insects in the moving grass. And the quote " poor fighting moves " is also covered by mods. Mods that permit the player to dual wield, kick ... and many, maaany more.
I played both Gothic Saga and Tes Saga ... Gothic has the feeling, Oblivion the poison apples and ... Mass Effect 1 the best storyline :))

sadly i never even got a chance to try this game. me running on a 4core hyperthreaded 4.0 processor With a ATI 6850 Running Lowest Graphics physically possible and i get 30 frames. by just that i have to say oblivion takes the cake able to run it maxed out And at 100+ frames . Story and gameplay aside being able to actually run it takes.. part and gothic has alota issue with its Graphical aspect

@TheGraphical bad combat in gothic?!dude you have more moves than in oblivion...example:oblivion has sword strike,shield block,and shooting bow thats it...on the other hand gothic has combination like with a axe u cen spin block attack enemy's when on the ground and normal attack + bow,crossbow and shield!
@911MadGamer you can do other attcks with weapons you just have to raise your skill high enough and you can dodge roll, paralyze with your bow, and knock people out with a sword and a lot of other moves to.

I like booth games . But i must say i enyojed Gothic 1 2 more then morrowind and oblivion i didnt played g3 and g4 because they leaving the path i liked. Im just jumped on Risen and cant wait to Risen 2 came out.
what i like:
GOTHIC(1,2)-more live word, interactions with objects, when you join some guild you feel that you belong to them not like Oblivion or Morrowind and overall the atmosphere is much greater.
TES:MORROWIND/OBLIVION- big world can be explored 4ever, many oppertunities ....

How can anyone even say that Oblivion is better than Gothic 3? That's just so absurd! It's like saying Earth is flat. If you take a closer look at Oblivion, you'll see that it is flawed and empty. Beide Games sind der absolute Hammer, aber irgendwie kann man sich bei oblivion nur mit quest, leveling und ausrütungsmods bei Laune halten. Und Gothic ist nur gut spielbar wenn man den Community patch hat... Trotzdem für mich sind sie mit Abstand die Schönsten RPGs.

@Wietheuperlima if you were playing a broken oblivion game a month ago then you're an idiot. They've patched and fixed just about everything way before then, and the combat in oblivion puts any and all gothic games to absolute shame, when you block it blocks correctly, when you attack it attacks correctly and feels perfect in every move. I love the gothic series but it isn't "better" than oblivion, people act like there's one or the other and you gotta choose, just shut up and enjoy both series
i've played a fully patched oblivion, and i paid attetion for every detail in both games, and yes, oblivion combat seens to be more immersive, while in gothic you just step backwards a little and do nothing but attacking repeatidly.
but love the focus on gameplay of gothic, so i have my game, and i'm not fighting with everyone just because of a damn opinion

Oblivion is the best game.. I looooooove both games.. but the graphics are waaaaay better in Oblivion... The gameplay is better too... The Continent in Gothic is huger... but in Oblivion everything comes more alive... Both games rule (:

They arent the same though, gothic 3 is a sequal oblivion is not, gothic is mostly third person, oblivion is not really the only thing they have incommen is that they are both rpgs, I respect your opinion only it's wrong :)

Gothic has better graphics, much better soundtrack but for excample Oblivion has ( in my opinion) better story, and quests. Both are good games. I love all Gothic's (without Arcania which isnt't real gothic, but fucking crap) but from TES series I only like Oblivion. I think that both are quite different but both are worth to play.

Oblivion ( with mods ) ... is something worth playing. The graphic mods ( worth 10 gb. ) will enchant the game so bad, that you will see the insects in the moving grass. And the quote " poor fighting moves " is also covered by mods. Mods that permit the player to dual wield, kick ... and many, maaany more.
I played both Gothic Saga and Tes Saga ... Gothic has the feeling, Oblivion the poison apples and ... Mass Effect 1 the best storyline :))

i played gothic 3 over and over again and i cant get enaugh of it the story is wonderfull,music makes a great atmosphere when u play the game...shure it does have some lags but let's face it its more complex than oblivion and way more nice animated spells...since in oblivion many of the spells look the same.gothic 3 is one of the best games ever!

sadly i never even got a chance to try this game. me running on a 4core hyperthreaded 4.0 processor With a ATI 6850 Running Lowest Graphics physically possible and i get 30 frames. by just that i have to say oblivion takes the cake able to run it maxed out And at 100+ frames . Story and gameplay aside being able to actually run it takes.. part and gothic has alota issue with its Graphical aspect

@TheGraphical bad combat in gothic?!dude you have more moves than in oblivion...example:oblivion has sword strike,shield block,and shooting bow thats it...on the other hand gothic has combination like with a axe u cen spin block attack enemy's when on the ground and normal attack + bow,crossbow and shield!

@911MadGamer you can do other attcks with weapons you just have to raise your skill high enough and you can dodge roll, paralyze with your bow, and knock people out with a sword and a lot of other moves to.

I like booth games . But i must say i enyojed Gothic 1 2 more then morrowind and oblivion i didnt played g3 and g4 because they leaving the path i liked. Im just jumped on Risen and cant wait to Risen 2 came out.
what i like:
GOTHIC(1,2)-more live word, interactions with objects, when you join some guild you feel that you belong to them not like Oblivion or Morrowind and overall the atmosphere is much greater.
TES:MORROWIND/OBLIVION- big world can be explored 4ever, many oppertunities ....

How can anyone even say that Oblivion is better than Gothic 3? That's just so absurd! It's like saying Earth is flat. If you take a closer look at Oblivion, you'll see that it is flawed and empty. If can teleport instantly everywhere in the world after you have been there destroys the feeling of a large world and makes me feel like Oblivion is made for kids below 12. <- That is just one small flaw, compared to it's greatest flaws, of Oblivion :/ This is not an opinion, this is a fact.

Beide Games sind der absolute Hammer, aber irgendwie kann man sich bei oblivion nur mit quest, leveling und ausrütungsmods bei Laune halten. Und Gothic ist nur gut spielbar wenn man den Community patch hat... Trotzdem für mich sind sie mit Abstand die Schönsten RPGs.

They've patched and fixed just about everything way before then, and the combat in oblivion puts any and all gothic games to absolute shame, when you block it blocks correctly, when you attack it attacks correctly and feels perfect in every move. I love the gothic series but it isn't "better" than oblivion, people act like there's one or the other and you gotta choose, just shut up and enjoy both series

i've played a fully patched oblivion, and i paid attetion for every detail in both games, and yes, oblivion combat seens to be more immersive, while in gothic you just step backwards a little and do nothing but attacking repeatidly.
but love the focus on gameplay of gothic, so i have my game, and i'm not fighting with everyone just because of a damn opinion

Well at least it`s actually GOOD dialogue, Gothic 3 has retarded ass dialogue and the only thing good about Gothic 3 in general are the spells you can use, the fighting mechanic is broken as well. Gothic 2 was better than 3 , but both 2 and 3 are worse than Oblivion.
