@halburd - global warming IS happening, but it's happening as a result of natural cycles and we're on the verge of entering a cooling cycle. Over the last million years, earth has been in ice age states for 90% of the time with the other 10% being interglacial periods. We are now exiting the warmer, interglacial period.

Sun activity (sunspots) are responsible for most of the earth's warming. Since 1913, there was not one month without sunspots until August 2008, and the sun has been inactive since then. You are right about ice ages happening every 100,000 years, but the warm, interglacial period that separates them is ending and we are heading into another cooling period. CO2 is not a big enough factor in warming to make a difference. However, I do believe our reliance on fossil fuels should end.

Sunspot cycles have everything to do with what's happening now. I have not seen evidence that we entered a "cooling period" 2000 years ago, only a mini-ice age which is also relatively common throughout these cycles. The longer cooling period (100,000 years approx.) is beginning now.

That is just not true. Numerous studies have proven that sunspots (or lack thereof) correlate to earth temperatures. Plus, sunspot activity has always diminished substantially during ice ages and increased during warming periods. After they are done altering it? that part is unclear, but what kind of scientist tosses his proof after he makes a hypothesis. A scientist who wants to mislead you is who.
