... the pistols and Ramones started at the same time. and the Ramones don't really own the punk genre theres other bands that were before the Ramones and they were classed as pre-punk. which included Iggy pop, MC5, New York Dolls, and many other bands.

Actually the Ramones started in 1975 and had already launched their first record when they went to London on July 4th 1976 a show that inspired the Clash the Pistols and the Damned and probably many more, most people think the Ramones and the Sex Pistols started at the same time because of the Pistols' quick rise but that was because of McLaren who had managed the New York Dolls who kind of saw the writing on the wall. The Ramones weren't identified as punk until the Pistols though.
