you looked up the specs of the wrong macbook, on the commercial she was looking at a macbook pro, the price of which was $2000 which is why she said ONLY 250gb hdd. she didnt say only because she wanted a bigger hdd, she said only because for $2000 u should be getting like 500gb hdd.
The ending is so true. Plus most of the people on the Microsoft commercials are women. Not to be sexist, but wouldn't you think at least one of of the women would want a computer the looked luxurious? Maybe it's not a women thing because I would want a computer that looked luxurious, as anyone probably would, yet they all choose the fugly dells. Plus there is the entire argument that Microsoft stages these commercials to seem like less is more.
I believe dell is being modest because if you dig deeper on the specs you see that the hard drive for dell runs 7200 rpm while mac at 5400. Plus a lot of little things like back lit keyboard and protection plan which cost like 300 for a mac. Dell now runs with windows 7. But the truth is that you basically buy MACs for reliability and the brand.
Vista isn't a 'wicked memory hog', it uses about the same amount of RAM as OS X. But it also caches commonly used programs in unused RAM to increase performance. Unused memory is wasted memory.
DDR3 is only marginally better than DDR2, the main advantage is power consumption. The extra GB is a good advantage over the Apple.
Best Buy's floor models are different than those available on the site. It was probably bigge rthan 250GB
What's worth mentioning is that if you buy that dell XPS 13 laptop now, you get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out. Windows 7 imo has been a really stable operating system and battery management is improved a ton. On my laptop I got an hour and 10 minutes of battery life while on Vista, and on windows 7 I got 2 hours of battery life which is quite an improvement. I know both battery lifes suck but it's a gaming laptop so you can't expect long battery life.
While I applaud you for being thorough and catching mistakes. Most individuals wouldn't go for a smaller HD, because most wouldn't be ok swapping it out. I agree they're very comparable, but your statement saying if someone else was footing the bill they'd most all go with the macs... Not true, if it was, a lot more macs would sell than PCs with windows... You also fail to mention you could most likely run OSX on the XPS.. since the hardware is the same and all, sans mainboard :)
You are right! I guess had some bad information. I read that Apple are out selling Dell. I did some extra googling just now and you are correct. Dell is out selling Apple 2 to 1. Of course OSX, Linux, and Windows are easily installed on almost any machine these days.
I'm glad to see that you are willing to do the research and are open minded to discovering the truth; I figured as much though considering your comment on enjoying both. Too many people flip out and make massive generalizations about PC/Apple users because as with all things, there are people who taint the reputation of both due to their attitudes.
Personally looking to get a macbook myself, but I'll no doubt dual boot windows on it.....not vista though :)

arthursucks- I agree with you about Vista being a memory hog.
My friend is a graphics designer, and purchased a new Micro$oft machine with 6 gigs of RAM.
It has quad core and he paid a pretty penny just to have the eye candy Vista offers.
Great Video man.
Linux person myself, using Kubuntu and Ubuntu with 1 GB on each machine.

Nobody ever factors in that if you call Dell and order a laptop, you can say "Take off $100" and they do it.

My experience with dell
I order a laptop XPS studio on March this year
In May after a lot of calls asking what happened they send to me an ordinary email saying that is lost in the send.
That I have 2 options, they can send it again or return my money.
I didn want to wait another month so I ask for the money (but it will take 48 days)
However they charge the 3 monthly quotas from my credit card.
Now in August Im still waiting for my money, and the support number..no solutions really useless.

If you chose the XPS with ubuntu, the price would probably drop $150+. Thats what I would go with if I was in the MS commercial, haha

True. But there is nothing stopping you from installing Linux on either laptop.
