If the wall wasn't painted poop brown I'm sure the screen would still come out good. I use my projector on a white wall and picture still comes out clear.
here the thing it how much money you spend on your projector i have a optoma gt700 DLP 3D gaming projector 16:10 wide screen in 1080p no matter were u use that projector trust me it all way good but i have mind setup on a 300" 16:10 gray fix screen
I'm getting my HD66 soon-ish (after christmas) and your vids have been the best ones on that projector. You mention blackout cloth and from what I see, it works fantastic. I've been looking for screen ideas and I found this stuff called "magic whiteboard". It'll be a while before I have my new place though so I won't be able to test out the fabric (gonna glue it down to a board if it works). Anyways, thought I'd pass that on incase you're open to trying new ideas for screens.
@TheBloodyCrookroots Just basic basic stuff. Me and my girlfriend went to a fabric store, bought some white blackout material, then to home depot to get some wood/brackets for the frame and staple gunned the fabric onto the frame. Easy peasy. All for under $50. And here i was about to buy a screen at the store for $300. Psh!
Maybe i'll put up a video this weekend taking the screen down and showing the back and how it's put together
@soulweaponry Awesome, thanks! Yeah, my roommates and I are getting annoyed with the eggshell texture especially when you are trying to watch Avatar 1080p or even some other 720p content. Still, it's an amazing projector for the price and throw diag. Easily best bang for buck if you don't notice the rainbow effect.
What screen and what wall paint are you comparing?
I use dulux light & space, lumitec technology, absolute white, rich matt (RGB 249 250 247 CIE xyY 0.314 0.332 94.9 Lab 98 -0.75 +1.27) over metal based silver paint undercoat. Gain is about 1.25+. I view at 0.85x screen width (not diagonal) about 2x screen height for 2.40:1 aspect ratio films. Screen has no visible texture. I have yet to try a screen as going by screen RGB, CIE and Lab values they are no better and more expensive.

Pausing the video at 0.44, with the plane split in the middle, I prefer the wall.

The left side has better blacks. The right side looks like a 2010 panny plasma after the rising blacks kick in.
