Is it just me, or am I the only one who can't understand Funeral Doom metal vocals? I get the atmosphere and I know the themes, it just feels like something is missing when I can barely hear the vocalist beyond the same short growl every time. Or is that kind of the point?

"The Call of the Wretched Sea"is something most beautiful that happened to Funeral Doom.This intro then the first riff pulls me to the bottom of the ocean,the tension they create is just crushing.While I'm listening to the album I have a feeling that the waves are going to hit me at any moment.

I just can't help imagining the figure of a colossal sperm whale lurking in the dephts of the Pacific when I listen to the intro. Truly awesome, one of the most mesmerizing Doom pieces we'll ever get the chance to listen.

Haha my comment got up there. After listening to both of Ahab's albums, I think I will buy Moby Dick to get further meaning of their songs. The book sounds like an epic adventure full of vengeance and treachery. Can't wait to get it, that is, if I can get the money.

I felt honored in reading it, especially with Ahab as a frame of reference when their songs would play in my head as I read. If you do read it, when you finish the book, play Old Thunder. You'll feel what I deciphered in the epilogue.

just imagine being on a boat in the middle of the ocean (or at least in a port town right near the ocean) on a stormy night, playing this album. the theme of vast ocean as far as the eye can see matches unbelievably well with the nihilistic emptiness of funeral doom. truly amazing.
