  • Can you make a higher quality HD version of this? I absolutley love this video you made but the pixelation takes away from the message and the story that you tell. Please??

  • wtf is that thing at 8:31 ????

  • How have we survived so misguided. I'll always wonder.

  • My favorite part is the beginning of 2001: a space odyssey. The scene just seens so appropriate.

  • Love this song and Video !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In last month's issue of Rolling Stone, there was a poll on the most anticipated albums of next year and Tool's upcoming release came in second behind Rush. Goddamn, I can't wait!

  • to jest G.E.N.I.A.L.N.E !

  • Every generation has its brilliant songwriters. First there was Bob Dylan. Then Roger Waters. Now there is only Maynard!

  • Fing Love It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I made contact with an alien the other night during my walk home from work, when i asked wat music they like too listen too he gave me a confused glare, I said "what?" Then he laughed and said TOOL u dumbshitt.

  • i bet santa live in the north pole just to stay in the garden of eden drinking from the fountin of youth with the tooth fairy and easter bunny while listening to TOOL with sasqatch and JFK

  • Man i forgot about this song for a long time. This song is fucking amazing, like so many of maynards songs. Tool is my altime favorite band, then APC shortly after. I believe him to be the most creative artist of all time. This shit has meaning.

  • @sookyz maynard sang and wrote the lyrics.. its not just his music.. there is a drummer and guitarist and a bass player that write there own parts,

  • @sookyz What does APC mean? My memory is broken today.

  • @hj7397 a perfect circle. maynards previous band, equally as good

  • @sookyz Oh, duh. Of course.

  • @hj7397 I am pretty sure that TOOL was the first band, then came APC, and then Puscifer, but I dont think he ever discarded any of the projects, which would suggest that none of them are "Previous bands". I heard in an interview that he has several forms of release, and I guess each band has its own purpose. What a guy, eh!

  • @conejwsr To the extent of my knowledge, I think you're right.

  • Yep. I have a boner now.

  • 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY!!!

  • I like all the screen shots from 2001. A Space Odyssey. That is truly the best trip of all time.

  • We Must Become Whole Once Again.

  • I heard this song yesterday at the New Amsterdam Cafe in Vancouver, and it was so ethereal. Very nice song.

  • LET US EMBED THIS ON FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!

  • I give 2 thumbs up on this vedio :) Good job

  • wasnt the singer of tool in the seals or marines?

  • @jackattack989 i saw a picture of him in an army uniform on another video i forget which song

  • @jackattack989 he was in the army as a forward observer (i dont think he saw action though) but quit when he was told that he was being sent to west point.

  • is it just me or do all drug addicts sound like idiots?

  • @sarrahysf its just you

  • The ability to sum up man in one song... only one song... only Tool

and they hit the nail directly on the head

  • @FedorfaN79 You said what was in my head. Verbatim.

  • In my opinion if you believe the face value that angels, demon, and religion are truth than the song praises mankind. Yet if your point of view is objective, and originates from free will and the ability to think for yourself then you cannot overlook the fact that the religious references may be metaphors

  • @kadashtoxic , which if this is true than the song speaks of mankind fallacies, and the squandering of our abilities. But that's the point isn't it? Music is art. It all just depends on what point of view you have, and your individual interpretation of the subject matter...Silly monkeys.

  • What do you expect out of a materialistic society..... Silly little monkeys....

    Red Waters....

  • @batmannrobbie and stupid slaves

  • @TheFlashmike -....and hollow masters.... red waters....

  • @TheFlashmike and big masters for stupid slavery and ....

  • tool saved my life

  • '''][''' {[]} {[]} ][_

  • please. If this song praises mankind, I'm shrek. Please tell me how the clear question of wtf we're hoping to achieve by f**king up the world, ourselves and our fellow man is praise to mankind and their free will. This is a condemnation of the f**ked up crap we choose to do with that free will.

  • @Ametsipe - Thank you, nicely stated.... and you saved me the time of correcting that moron.... I think they should put more effort into understanding and less effort into trying to sound intelligent.... Silly little monkeys....

  • Fuck YOU (all) and your subjective interpretations

  • God made the Angels of Heaven and Hell with a dedicated existence. Their conviction cannot be altered. Mankind was created with the free will to choose. Angels and Demons are baffled and confused by any deviation of their own understanding of Gods will. The lyrics represent the lamentation of these Angels of light and darkness. They do not understand that the Creator of existence cut it all Right in Two to accommodate the being of free will that man Is. The song praises Mankind you fools.

  • @TERMICOBRA That subtle Esoteric point not being "got" really makes me question our future...

  • Humans-We the apex predator of the earth. We are born of war. Woe to the creatures who deny their heritage. We ascended the throne when other men ruled the earth. The mighty bigger brained Neandertal fell before us as did the open steppe Denison and Erectus of the forest. You who would deny the blood soaked history of our genesis has forgotten the crucible of competition that bore your existence. We MUST be Right in Two for now the leopard fears us. We must be our own test or diminish.

  • @TERMICOBRA wow ur hella cool :) Good message

  • drink more fucker

  • I want to know who these savage beasts are who DISLIKE button this poetry. Fools!

  • RAPTURE

  • IN SAN E!

  • Great video and artistry. Nuff said.

  • Apologize to all but I have get gutter on yall...

    THIS IS EPIC FUCK MUSIC.

  • why is that tool videos are full of annoying comments?

  • @saadawan50

Ever hear of Chaos Theory? 'Should check it out.

  • God is us. And you are God. Trust it. Do the right thing, stop thinking of yourselves cause you are everyone and everyone is YOU

  • Ears, Two Eyes, Four External Limbs, Grunting Capabilities, Alike Facial Structure, Same Patterned Movement. I wonder what these monkeys are being referred to as.

  • Flex-ability can be stronger than steel and bone when will we learn ?

  • 13 people will never experience eargasam.

  • People and Monkeys share the vast majority of DNA... is it so surprising we act alike?

  • the 'monkeys' would be all of us son

  • 12 people worship uncle sam

  • This made my nipples hella hard.

  • 12 people SUCKS

  • Absolutely positively one of my FAVE tool songs <3

  • thumbs up to show mother fuckers how awesome tool is by the end ofthe week.more than that canadian bacon.

  • DMT

  • Anyone else see the blue star when they've risen out of body? The blue star from the video....

  • I have no idea what i was talking about I was so messed up on shit and drunk I have no idea what i was saying .So don't take anything I said seriously because I read it and it sounds like it came from a babbling fool.Gotta stop drinking and commenting.

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS : along with half of the people on youtube lol. Really good piano cover of this song done by thumphrey05. Take a look.

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS -maybe you should just stop drinking..... There's nothing wrong with expressing yourself....

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS I didn't read any of your comments besides this one, and I'm not going to... But I will only say this; alcohol is the drug of fools, that's why your gov't allows you the privilege. Smoke some, chill your brain, feel the Earth spin 'round... you're not alone, we are your brothers.... PEACE

  • @kingsmountainview -If alcohol is the drug of fools.... then I'd bet you drink your ass off....silly little monkey.....

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS The great thing is it doesn't really matter, dude. Be glad you didn't say it to your in laws or significant other or something.

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS haha been there done that.. Fuck it!

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS ...Whoa, it made perfect sense to me! That's probably not good.

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS dont worry your name explains a lot.

  • ...eden has enough to go around...

  • Ultimately, the bible is a tool. To be used for good, and to better yourself. But if we're arguing over who's right and what's real and what's not, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of a god? Doesn't that ruin our ideology? People can be frustrating, people can be annoying, and there are those people that you just don't get along with. BUT we should never, EVER, put another man down based on their beliefs and opinions. Because thats the greatest gift god ever gave to man.

  • @923yup I don't agree that it is right to respect everyones opinion or even there right to an opinion. Hitler had an opinion, so do child molesters and murderers. I would put these people and these opinions down in a heartbeat. The real gift is not having an opinion but knowing the difference between a just opinion and an unjust one.

‘All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’

(I refer to the evil humans are capable of)

  • @piedpiperz80 Who was talking about opinion? I said God's greatest gift was comprehension and thought. The things hitler and child molesters don't utilize. The word respect really gets thrown around quite often, and when it comes to beliefs, most people don't know how to properly use the word respect. When you say, I respect your opinion or beliefs, you're saying I take it into consideration although I don't directly agree. Not, I completely agree and understand everything you have to say.

  • @piedpiperz80 Read carefully and understand my context before you respond next time, because it made no sense. You make a valid point, which could be added onto my statement. But the fact of the matter is, in the context I wrote it, the only opinion in my statement is the opinion of creation. Not opinions in general. Every man or woman is entitled to their opinion and the right to voice said opinion under the 1st amendment with limitations. Your words can kill you if you use them the right way.

  • @piedpiperz80 What I was trying to get across in my comment is the same thing Maynard is trying to get across in this song. That more we argue whose beliefs are more veracious the more we divide... cut 'em right into. God has given us free will, thought and intellect over his other animal creations. But we use this intellect and acuity to hurt each other because we don't agree. "Father blesseed them all with reason, and this is what they choose." I preach common sense and brotherhood.

  • "Religious distress is at the same time the expression of real distress and the protest against real distress. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusion" Karl Marx

  • @923yup "People can be frustrating, people can be annoying, and there are those people that you just don't get along with. BUT we should never, EVER, put another man down based on their beliefs and opinions. Because thats the greatest gift god ever gave to man." Granted people can hold their own opinions and beliefs. But does belief not lead to action? I'd argue that belief inspires action. Because our actions affect others, should we not be responsible with our beliefs? We must believe

  • @923yup responsibly. But to what extent can we consider a belief responsible? I propose that it is responsible to believe something if one has evidence beyond reasonable doubt. And thus, a responsible believer and thinker (in my opinion) is one who believes in that which he has evidence beyond reasonable doubt for. This means that I cannot responsibly believe in the existence of a deity, but furthermore I will not reject the possibility of his existence. This is my personal agnosticism.

  • @93limabean I agree, but what does that have to do with ridicule against your fellow main based on religious beliefs? We agnostics/atheists can agree that when a Christian speaks about god, it sounds like a recuirtment script. But we do not put this man down, I don't at least. I let this man have his opinion while directly disagreeing with it. We can have an arguement/debate on religion, but not harm eachother's egos. Believeing responsibly is as redundant as a dog chasing its own tail.

  • @923yup I guess by my own logic, if I were to believe proportionally to the evidence presented, I should have enough evidence as of now to responsibly say I don't believe in a god. Is that justifiable? Would you agree? And you say that one should not put another man down for his belief. I agree with this in some scenarios, if a person beleives in something, like god, and they've been presented with sufficient evidence (this is a hazy term in this case, if you want to assess it go ahead) then I

  • @923yup will not think poorly of such a person due to the fact that their belief is justified. However, is a person believes in something with out sufficient evidence or is presented with evidence strongly suggesting a contrary view yet still clings to his beliefs, then this person is ingorant (used denotatively). Is this not agreeable? and what do you mean by: " Believeing responsibly is as redundant as a dog chasing its own tail."

  • @93limabean Allow me to elucidate with a story. A few weeks ago my wife and I were in Wal-mart, doing the usual shopping. A young man came up to us and began to explain his faith and what he was doing in Wal-mart that day. He was walking around finding people who had ailments that might want him to pray for them. As an Atheist, I honestly have no faith in prayer. But I said nothing of religion to this young man, I allowed him to pray for my wife in the middle of a store.

  • Comment removed

  • @93limabean She's pregnant and get's really bad headaches. I did not tell this guy no based on my disbelief. Who am I to tell him he's wrong? I would love it if religious types would lay off the Atheist community and quit the constant attempts to convert us to their way of life. Therefore I try to lead by example. Despite the fact that I know what he did had no effect on my wife's well being, I let him think he was helping.

  • @93limabean As I said previously, people believe out of fear. One cannot believe responsible if their beliefs are based on fear. A dog chasing it's tail only does so because he has no idea why he's doing it. What would he do if he actually caught it? Give up and chew his ass? Or eat his own tail? Yet this dog will do it multiple times a day with the same outcome. One cannot believe responsibly because believing is based in faith, and having faith in something is confidence that it's true.

  • @93limabean "If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains; however improbable, must be the truth." - Spock

If what you believe in gets you through the day and makes you happy, then nobody should be allowed to tell you any different. No matter how insane it may sound to that person.

  • @93limabean People believe out of fear, confusion, and in search of a will to live. There is no reason beyond fear that one believes in god. I say that it is better to condone the idea of a creator. In the sense that said creator asks nothing in return for their creations. A jealous god and a demanding god is not one to obey because these are the same traits as a communist leader. If you truly accept the possibility of a god then you must accept the possibility there is not one, which is better?

  • This song is about the need to become less selfish. All you people pointing fingers and stating existence and those trying to disporve said existence need to just sit and listen to the lyrics.

Basically we need to just calm down, if god does exist, then accept the beauty he gave to us. Don't ruin everything by trying to disprove it to the believers. If he doesn't, then don't force your ideals on your brother. Man has been given the gift of thought and comprehension. Utilize it...

  • @923yup wow well said dude well said

  • The video is talking about REAL fighting. Not conversation. Actual killing and violence.

The top rated comment is fucking retarded. Our soldiers didn't die for our freedom by bickering on a Youtube page. They didn't die because of arguing over cutting land in two, either. Hitler wanted ALL of it for himself.

  • do you think Tool is part of the New World Conspiracy!?

  • I want us all dead so those who are chosen may take are place.

  • @RuBbErRoOmChAoS ...our...

  • it is isn't ironic that we fight that is the point he is exactly triing to make

  • This song is about a baked potato exploding in a microwave.

  • 11 scientists disliked this video just 'cause

  • this is obviously a song about the jelousy angels have toward man.

  • Tool is rarely straightforward about the meanings behind their songs, but this seems to be about the human race and our inability to co-exist peacefully.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Now I can respect that. There's nothing wrong with faith, I just don't like when people say they KNOW. That's why it's called faith. Because you believe something is possible. Although no fault can be found in someone applying noble teachings from any philosophy, to life.

  • Why does anyone care if anyone else has faith or doesn't have faith? Not a shit should be given unless hate is being thrown around. Also, people need to realize the difference between spirituality and religion, as it's a pretty distinct one. Personally, I am incredibly spiritual but have zero interest in religious dogma.

It is up to an individual person to realize their own truth, without anyone (believers or non-believers) attempting to dictate what they should or shouldn't believe in.

  • EVeryone, do some DMT. then stop your bitching.

  • I find it ironic, this song talks about monkeys fighting

and that exactly what most people are doing on this page. =P

  • @JPBeViL Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around? :D

  • @anotherdeadher0 hasn't *

  • Comment removed

  • In what way is that ironic? Isn't congruency the exact opposite of irony?

  • @cheritek your right, I made a wrong choice of words, irony is the opposite of congruency, all I meant to say was that all monkey fighting monkeys are silly and misguided.

  • @JPBeViL I do believe this is why TOOL wrote this song from the perspective of angels.

  • @cheritek I agree, and I believe that every one should look at themselves and their environment from that perspective.

  • @JPBeViL I meant because when another human says it, it has no meaning; it is the pot calling the kettle black.

  • @JPBeViL monkey see monkey do.

  • @JPBeViL actually if you listen to it its talking about us fight and killing each other over land

  • @deadman192837 but.... we Are monkeys.. err.. primate of some kind..

on a never ending battle to be extinct... at least we know we're getting there :P

-this song makes me realize that knowledge is not for the weak of mind.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Silly silly. You know what your Bible tells you, it's unfortunate your Bible doesn't know.

  • and all the atheists posting their opinion as if it is fact, have fun with that. It just makes you seem arrogant and stupid.

At least have the balls to say it's your opinion.

  • In my opinion, God exists, and Jesus saved me. Through my personal experience called "life", I have seen enough for it to be proven to me. I can't prove it to you, you would need to experience my entire life, every single one of my thoughts, for that. Only God can prove himself to you, and only if you have open eyes. If you're not looking, you won't see. You'll miss it in the massive amounts of other sensory information and interpretations of that information. There's too much to see.

  • @falkenjeff And you are totally right :) whatever a "god" or a "jesus" may be ;).

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Also, Pascal's Wager, look it up. You can pretty much sum it up there. A good 95% of Christians fall into this category. The others, well...

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Right. It definitely does have something to do with "God". Just not necessarily your version. Your version is so 2000+ years ago. The angry invisible sex crazed lunatic god of a primitive people. None of us will truly understand what "God" truly is. Those of us that realize that, are that much closer. Until we can know, we must accept that we don't, and try our best to understand what we can. Of course every religious fanatic "knows" that his/her imaginary friend is real.

  • Stop Arguing About God. He's Real. Just Leave It At That.

  • religion is a sheild for people to live their lives behind. it tells you what to feel like and what to do and gives punishment for those who dont abide. im spiritual. not religious. this is what i believe: free will amongst people, unconditional love and acceptance for everything, and the release of guilt and denial. neither are loving or accepting. i do believe in god. but a sexually open god that manifested orders of spirits.

  • @wiccanXexodus and that earth is a reflection of the Mother of Everything's sexual desitres she had finally become open about

  • All geat philosophical views and comments from you all. The idea of GOD began as a way to explain the realms of things that we can not understand or explain. And today through science we are trying to explain those things. But the fact remains that there is an underlying energy that flows through everything and gives us the will and strength to carry on through life. Be it a devine creator or some sort of energy that is in everything. Such things as this still lay beyond our understanding.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky i literally LOL'd.

  • The feeling of God's presence is a neurological mechanism for dealing with the anxiety of death and loneliness." What about those of us who do not contend with anxiety, who feel and experience GOD's presence consistently? It is not about the money, for my belief is my own and no other can approach that without my allowance. So, that is true faith, and that is my very life: GOD. There is no philosophy there-just understanding and submission to GOD...There is no symbol, no trinket, no money..

  • @InstantClassic333 Everyone subconsciously fears death except for the mentally insane. On a conscious level, the mind uses religion and religous practice to stabilize emotion and thought. "Your belief" is based on others or formed from your own mind as a result of the brain's mechanisms. It's hard to understand, which is why many do not think about it, or claim not to care about.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky The Hebreic term "Lift an Eye" means to recognize the significance of something. I disagree that it means the "Kingdom of Heaven," and not because I am an atheist, but because he specifically used an idiom from the transliteration of the Hebreic Bible, suggesting that the other terms are suggested to be figurative as well. Perhaps elevation in a non-literal sense, recognize the significance of transcending the bullshit we are aware will be meaningless in a short period of time.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky It may behoove you to realize that other interpretations of this song, whether religious or not, are no less righteous than your own. In fact, I find yours to be incredibly closed-minded, given that the Logos, the idea of which has evolved to be an anthropomorphic being, is actually the word for logic/reason. If you strip your beliefs from being centered around the connection to a creator, you'd find that the point is to live consistently with nature and respect other beings.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky I retract. I remember now how I know what your religious beliefs are. You wrote them:

"Im a devout authentic fundamentalist Christian and have been for a little over a year now. I just see this song as, we've "lost our way" with God. If you've ever read God's Grandeur, sort of like that but with creationism."

  • This reminds me. I haven't got stoned and watched "2001 A Space Oddesy" in a long time.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky I do not know your religious beliefs exactly. My deduction is based on this:

You capitalize the word god, giving it a status as a proper noun. You interpret this song as to being about that god, based on who is bantering, instead of what they are bantering about. You took my point that it is not religious very personally, calling my "agnostic views" "mean."

I assume you believe that "heaven" is a place, because when it is used in these lyrics, that is how you interpret it.

  • Seriously this vid completely matches the song. I nearly went insane when the eclips appeared and stayed there for 30sec.

    Thanks for this hallucinating experience

  • Its a pity we all can't just get along and respect one another they, can have their little believes, but fuck, why all the hating and killing?

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Including those who believe in what I have logically deduced to be a book written and revised over and over again by humans and a neurological mechanism designed to relieve the anxiety of loneliness and death; to lighten the heavy burden of consciousness and the ability to ask why the universe has unfolded in this way and what the point of it all is? Why is it that the one who believes that heaven is the goal is the one doing all of the disrespecting here?

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky I didn't say anything about the "real" meaning. It's literally what it says: "Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground." "They fight or they die, over what? Over writing!"

Maynard James Keenan has said he's not religious. That's a fact.

You are getting really defensive and demeaning over what? Over writing and your religious beliefs. I understand religion and have likely studied it more than you have. I still have respect for other humans.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky You are paying attention to the references from the angels discussing humans and missing the entire message about the song. The "angels" in this song actually find fault in religious divisions as well. Infinite divisions in a finite space lead to nothing. This song written from the point of view of another human would lose its meaning, as it states that it is human nature to divide what we find into two. Less hypocritical is a divine being, confused by our actions.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky It's not an opinion. It's an opinion that you think I am both idiotic and robotic (assuming by "sheep," you mean follower and incapable of independent thought.) An opinion is a point of view based on emotion and unsubstantiated information.

Instead of responding immediately emotionally with insulting opinions, you should try to listen to logic and reason and formulate thoughts that people will tend to be more receptive to.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky It's written from the point of view of "angels." If you think that the reasoning is religious you don't understand Tool very well, if at all.

  • omg grippos bbq potato chips are so fucking good. Its like a spicey bbq...i need a pepsi

  • My feeling for everybody interpreting Tool's songs can only be put into a simple phrase which goes as follows, STFU. You're interpretation of every single song is getting annoying; Tool is an amazing band and as always has a message for all of us to discover on our own. If you cannot interpret you're own meaning of it's lyrics then there is no point of you knowing what the true meaning is, so all you you posting interpretations are just wasting you're time in aiding the ignorance. - The truth

  • @knawimsayinnnnn most of what gets written here on youtube is stupid. cool thing about that is, nobody is asking your permission. don't try and monitor the internet for signs of intelligence. do everyone here a favor, take your own advice and STFU. The truth...give me a fucking break.

  • @TheDouchesupreme Actually you just contradicted yourself dumbass. i dont need YOUR permission to say anything i want you cunt. before you go around pointing your finger ask yourself this. Do I give a fuck? You should crawl into a hole and suffocate on your own bullshit :)

  • @knawimsayinnnnn lol exactly, you do give a fuck or you wouldn't have bothered to reply. clearly you're an imbecile who hates his own point.

  • well look at opiate, that clearly shows exactly what the band thinks of it, but thats not the argument. i personally think it's about the choices of humanity and how we have left our nomadic lives behind and our destructive tendencies have impacted the Earth to such a grave degree that we cannot go back, because our embedding of society. Why would they involve god in lyrics? i personally think it was to help the song blend together, it's beautifully written and i think manifesting god helps

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Really? Tool videos are usually overloaded with people arguing about the meaning behind the lyrics, not God specifically. That is more accurately what this song is about anyway. Humans. Where there is one, humans are bound to divide it right in two.

  • @PullMeIntoTheSky Appreciate your comment.Just my opinion, but I think this song is more about humanity's shitty decisions and blown oppurtunities than it is about religion.I'm not an atheist.I am however a believer in Christ.

  • Tool should be a religion

  • Monkeys with bones now haunt my dreams

  • ewqeqweqw

  • @blackjerryboymetal there's recordings in the earlier days of the band in the studio tripping on acid. They only do psychedelics, and I don't think they do anymore (at least maynard doesn't, in fact he's against any drugs now, and I think Danny smokes weed here and there... Not sure about the other 2, but Adam seems like the type of guy that is clean)

  • @blackjerryboymetal LOLOLOLOL did you really just say that Tool is drug free? Not even just that, but they have always been drug free?
