  • bassbassbass

  • I'm glad they changed the intro guitar riff that plays throughout the song to a way cleaner sound it sounds way better.

  • dat solo

  • I don't care what anybody says. This was awesome. Awesome gritty guitar solos...

  • matt sharp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • dat snare... it gets me hard

  • i miss matt sharp :(

  • wow i've never listen this before! i love it!!

  • Ahaha that snare

  • @MuscleDad420 lol that's the same reaction I had, it's horrible!

  • @TheRealJohnRob Weezer by way of Metallica's St. Anger.

  • The solo is much better than the album version

  • i <3 this song

  • the drums are way more dynamic here than in the original, nice

  • 1:00 - 1:12 Matt Sharp at his prime

  • @theatomizer

I like both album and demo versions of this song. Demo versions are cool because you get to hear what they sound like before they stepped in the a studio, you get to hear where it all started. A lot of great band's demos where like this too. With out this Weezer demo they wouldn't be the band they are today, they wouldn't be anywhere. Someone saw passed the "sloppy" sound you claim it has. It is raw and live the way music is suppose to sound.

  • sounds like pavement

  • I love the cough noise that the drums make in this version!

  • this version is hilarious. it starts off like a 90's sitcom or some shit with that lead.

  • I prefer the more mellow undistorstioned solos on the original.

  • oooh nice :)))

  • I just stole this and put it on my iPod O.o

  • @hobosunited247 clipconverter.cc

  • i love the 1:10 mini scream thing. Whatever it was, it's dope.

  • the main difference is the solo. the one from the album is so much better, just listen to one after the other starting at 3:00

  • sounds like kiss.

  • You all act strange.

  • ♯theatomizer

    lol

    demo is better

  • Hell yeah

  • I love the part just before the solo, the "dear daddy I write you" part..god it's so awesome..wish that part on the album version sounded like that

  • The snare. Addicting. :o

  • Why do people think this is better than the album? This is just faster with sloppier guitar and vocals. And the drums sound like cans. Do people thinks its cool to like this because less people know about it?

  • @theatomizer sloppy is an opinion.

I like it better than the album version BECAUSE of the gritty vocal delivery and the improvised guitar licks.

  • @lazrpo Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of stuff too. They just didn't really appeal to my tastes with this demo.

  • @theatomizer it's just the way he tuned the snare, not the whole kit.

  • Lol why does it seem like the demo versions of songs always own the album versions?? T_T

  • The solo is orgasmic

  • The album version is better it fits to what the song is about

  • actually there both good :D

  • the chorus sounds kind of obnoxious... but the rest is fucking awesome

  • i l;ike this better!!! :SDDDLLDNJL:GDJLDDDDDD

  • I love the hollow sound of the drums in this demo

  • what why is this one way awesomer?? why didnt they do the original like this

  • dude i like it

  • Wow! What a find!

But why did they use a tin can for a snare?

  • Weezer is awesome. I believe we can all I agree on that.

  • this version sounds much cooler

I don't think i can go back to the normal version....

  • The guy on the left looks like a lizard

  • @GovVision in what way does pat look like a lizard?

  • @masonroe157900000 Honestly, I admire weezer a bunch, and no disrespect to them, but he just does, I don't know why

  • @GovVision chill, man i know you were'nt trying to disrespect weezer. fans don't do that.

  • @GovVision No, you are right, he does, and I didn't notice it before. I will not listen to a band that has a lizard playing drums....thanks for your insight, keep up the deep thoughts

  • This isn't from the Kitchen Tapes, right?

    What's the source?

  • @HappilyWithMonotony this is the demo they sent to geffen.

  • i like this version, but the final version was more chill, you know? you could sit back and fly a fuckin' aerobatics airplane.sorry for the obscene language, i just couldn't help it.

  • I love River's vocals in this.

So much more heartfelt and sincere than in the album version. The vocals fit it so much more: it's a song about frustration and sorrow, so why shouldn't the vocals be a little rough and abrasive? That just makes them much more genuine.

  • i like this better in almost ever way the vocal in the versus are better in the album version though

  • Comment removed

  • yea!!

  • @necr0sins: youre retarded

  • Horrible...

  • @necr0sins Your taste is horrible.

  • Love the guitar that comes in at 2:13... Sounds awesome

  • Where did these demos come from... o_O I've never seen them before. This is insane though.

  • i love matt soo much 1:10 ! lol

  • Best. Song. Ever. Been my favorite song for.. I d'know... 16 and a half years now.. haha

  • I love this more than the album version!

  • the snare sounds kinda bad, but everything else is freaking awesome

  • This is really good. Almost so different from the CD version you can't really compare them but a good song by it's self.

  • my fave. weezer song

  • Did kurt cobain freaking sing this version? Wtf is up with his voice

  • @BigPapiKay Rivers hadn't found his voice yet and Nirvana was popular at the the time so he used Kurt has a base idea for how to sing.

  • better then the cd version

  • thank god for the superior final version

  • I love this version!

  • rivers is realy jammin on this version. this veriso is way better than the cd version. it sounds way cooler

  • I think this version really shows off pat's abillity to drum a lot better. cooler fills and more heavy drums all around, i like the demo better.

  • nice

  • this is the shittest snare sound i've ever heard :D even worse than metallica's in st.anger. cool demo anyway ;)

  • hey! you should put a download link for this video!! thumbs up if you agree.

ei! você devia colocar um link de download nesse vídeo!! votem postitivo se você concorda!

  • remember pearl jam

  • On second thought it isnt grunge at all. I myself prefer the final version...but you know, times change..and in that case..so does music

  • Man, screw all you guys that don't like River's grunge sound.

He's not "trying" to be grunge. Hell, he had to "try" to clean it up!

This is natural Weezer, if you don't like it, go listen to Raditude or something.

  • @Llamanessone that shoud have more thumbs up

  • @Llamanessone exactly

  • @Llamanessone thank god i love you man haha, eff raditutde haha

  • I don't think he sounds grunge AT ALL in these demos. Grunge is a mumbling while yelling kind of sound, which is far from what he is doing.

  • Rivers in these demos seems like hes trying to act Grunge. Glad he changed that up

  • where can i get the guitar tab? this song is so beauitful!

  • can someone please tell me where I can get The Kitchen Tapes, which is the demo that this is off of? Thanks!

  • @evan274 dude, go to albumsix.com (allthingsweezer) and register, than go the media gallery, look for blue era recordings and youll see the kitchen tapes. They have aloooooooooooot of weezer bsides/demos/ live shit/rare shit from all their albums/era's. =w=

  • Seems like 1 person teared up and couldn't decifer a thumbs up from a thumbs down.

  • i can tell the difference but they sounds very similar. so they're both good in my opinion.

  • I just finished watching it and I was thinking the same thing.

  • I say the Demo is better than the mastered

  • Idk if this is weezer...

  • @SendMeBelow22

Yeah it's definitely Weezer. It's just a demo. Obviously things ended up differently on the actual album. It's clearly Rivers singing.

  • Crazy . . .

  • The solo is one of the best things I've ever heard, and I love the sound of the snare. I don't see why this didn't get into the final album. :(

  • this shit KNOCKS!

  • very cool!!....sounds like the guitar is hendrix (by way of pearl jam)-influenced. snare drum is pearl jammy too.

  • Wicked version! Drummer's rippin it on the kit! Nice crisp snare!

  • Agreed, I think Pat's a pretty underrated drummer. He might not have much in the way of flashy chops, but what he plays fits the song and he is a GREAT power rocker! I always loved the power he could get out of a kit. Cool to hear how his old kit sounded

  • Pure perfection! bass fills, snare... vocals, guitar solo... kicks serious ass!

  • love the bass fills on this song! pure awesomeness

  • um....what's with the snare?

  • i love how bluesy the guitar is in this song

  • @dezrax wow, you're right. real tasty guitar playing. too bad they didn't play like this one the record.

  • @browsfan Personally, I think the album version is much better. It's basically this, just perfected. The coda and solo are noticably better on the album.

  • AMAZING

  • i much prefer how the album turned out to these demos, rik ocasek did some fantastic production it, perfect

  • i love this! they sound like their having so much fun. not to mention its a more complicated version than the album one

  • iron maiden has that problem were there solos end up sounding like some dude showing off on his guitar rather than making good music.

But versions of the solo have so much emotion which why i go to weezer for these raw songs

  • It might just be me, but when I listen to this, I think of Pearl Jam. The way Rivers uses his voice brings that feel, and the solo has Pearl Jam written all over it.

I'm not dissing the song, I love both bands. It's cool listening to the rough draft of one of the greatest songs in history.

    5/5 <3

  • is this from the original kitchen tape?

if so, i thought this was lost forever

  • no this is from weezer's third demo.

  • Comment removed

  • dumbass where do you think asher roth got the riff?

  • you better be kidding

  • For me, the absolute climax to the song is the guitar response to the vocal drowning in the vat. On this version (at 3:00, the guitar seems too interested in amusing itself. Glad that bit was changed.

  • The guitar solo and riffs in this song are better than the album version.

  • How'd you get these?

  • this song's really hard for lead

  • How did this track morph from this into the beautiful, gutwrenching masterpiece that is the album version?

  • Very pronounced Snare in the demos!

  • I fucking love the guitar in this demo

  • WEEZER ROCKS!!!

  • i actually like the demos more :]

either way, weezer is the shit!

  • too bad rivers can't crank out the guitar solos like he used to

  • ya sure thats not brian bell?

  • Comment removed

  • haha they sound theyre having alot of fun on this track.

  • The album version compared to this is sort of the ultimate proof that less is more.

  • Mozart figured that out initially

  • I dislike how Rivers is trying so hard to sing in that early 90s grunge way in this...

I'm glad he found his own style for the final record :] One of the best songs ever written

  • ummmm Weezer was during the early 90's.

  • Yes they were but they weren't grunge like Pearl Jam or Nirvana were they?

My point is that Rivers' style of singing has changed

  • I think he admired Cobain a lot. So he might have been trying to sound like him in a way. I'm glad he found he own style too but in a way I wish he had kept his grunge roots.

  • There's absolutly nothing about this song, or any other weezer song that sounds like it's influenced by Kurt Cobain or anyone else that's, "grunge," for that matter.

  • if you knew anything about weezer you would know that Rivers truly admires Cobain. Listen to Heart Songs

  • Yeah, totally. He respects Nirvana, and what they've done for the world.

Greatest Man's parts are actually inspired by Rivers' favorites.

For example, there's a Nirvana section, Aerosmith, Beethoven, etc.

It's amazing how Weezer swept the world off of it's feet in the post-grunge era.

    <3

  • He might have admired Cobain, but that doesn't mean he sounds like him, or tries to emulate him in any way.

  • Thats true. But I still think he's trying to push his voice like him.

  • @gabe25591 IT IS EARLY 90's, and this is from before grunge got big ya douche. LET THAT RIVER FLOW

  • @JimmyDbum I know it was the early 90s. Go back and read the fucking comment you bellend

  • @gabe25591 Yeah your talking shit and then retracting it by saying its one of the best songs ever, if this was the final track would you still be talkin smack you mung pusher

  • @JimmyDbum You think I make comments arbitrarily? Without following any sort of personal opinion? As I said, read the fucking comment. I'm GLAD he found his own singing style for the final track, which I believe to be one of the greatest songs ever written.

Even if you hadn't ignored my original post again and you actually decided to put forward a coherent argument, let me think what I think, and you can keep your views (and your pretentiously obtuse insults) to yourself.

  • @gabe25591 this is no grunge at all my friend

  • @gabe25591

This is probably some shit garage band covering them that's why he sounds so gay

  • @poopyscoopy5 fagget

  • @gabe25591 i like grunge you sponge

  • @gabe25591 he didnt find his own style, he had a producer telling him to do it the way it came out in the final album versions.

  • @gabe25591

hey - this song actually IS grunge from the early 90's.

    greetings

  • Christ - these AREN'T hard to find, folks.

  • well if you know do you mind sharing? cos everyone else seems to have a hard time finding them.
