I like both album and demo versions of this song. Demo versions are cool because you get to hear what they sound like before they stepped in the a studio, you get to hear where it all started. A lot of great band's demos where like this too. With out this Weezer demo they wouldn't be the band they are today, they wouldn't be anywhere. Someone saw passed the "sloppy" sound you claim it has. It is raw and live the way music is suppose to sound.
Why do people think this is better than the album? This is just faster with sloppier guitar and vocals. And the drums sound like cans. Do people thinks its cool to like this because less people know about it?
@GovVision No, you are right, he does, and I didn't notice it before. I will not listen to a band that has a lizard playing drums....thanks for your insight, keep up the deep thoughts
i like this version, but the final version was more chill, you know? you could sit back and fly a fuckin' aerobatics airplane.sorry for the obscene language, i just couldn't help it.
So much more heartfelt and sincere than in the album version. The vocals fit it so much more: it's a song about frustration and sorrow, so why shouldn't the vocals be a little rough and abrasive? That just makes them much more genuine.

Agreed, I think Pat's a pretty underrated drummer. He might not have much in the way of flashy chops, but what he plays fits the song and he is a GREAT power rocker! I always loved the power he could get out of a kit. Cool to hear how his old kit sounded
@browsfan Personally, I think the album version is much better. It's basically this, just perfected. The coda and solo are noticably better on the album.
It might just be me, but when I listen to this, I think of Pearl Jam. The way Rivers uses his voice brings that feel, and the solo has Pearl Jam written all over it.

I think he admired Cobain a lot. So he might have been trying to sound like him in a way. I'm glad he found he own style too but in a way I wish he had kept his grunge roots.

Yeah, totally. He respects Nirvana, and what they've done for the world.
Greatest Man's parts are actually inspired by Rivers' favorites.

It's amazing how Weezer swept the world off of it's feet in the post-grunge era.
