I noticed that the editing doesn't have the dance in sync with the music but you still get the overwhelming sense of lightness and joy---just beautiful!!!
Although Tchaikovsky's ballet has been presented on TV many times in many different versions, the Baryshnikov version is one of only two to be nominated for an Emmy Award. The other one was Mark Morris' "The Hard Nut," Morris's intentionally exaggerated and satirical version of the ballet. Baryshnikov was artistic director of the White Oak Dance Project, a touring company he co-founded with Mark Morris. In 2006 he launched the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York.
i always wondered why mark morris has evolved in the opposite direction to most. he started out more experimental, and steadily became one of the most classical-esque living choreographers in the modern dance world. bizarre
This was a really beautiful show. Unfortunately, this clip totally ruins it, since the music doesn't go with what they are dancing. Mark Morris' choreography was created following Mozart's music note by note. I hope to find the real thing on YT.
I was disappointed with their recent show in Boston. Their timing was way off, costumes/dress were very bland. I agree, when Morris use to dance with the group, it took the cake. It had a different energy and feel that launched into the audience
Too bad you didn't see Saturday night's performance (3/21), the costumes originally intended finally arrived, and the performance itself was on fire. The versatility of the dancers was phenomenal. The ability to convey the harshness of deep dark secrets in Saturday's line up of the Bartok to the unadulterated joy of survival in "V"--the tribute to NY--through movement-- made me want to explode from my seat in applause. MM's choreography is multi-layered and incredible!!

Morris should have pick another piece more appropriate for ballet. Mozart did not compose this music for dance.
