  • Boy did you change John..you are on twitter AND on facebook these days!! Folowing you on both sides and you even replied to me, I like the way the times have changed ;-)

  • Nice one JT. Totally agree with the no-Twitter policy since I feel that getting too much information (no Duran pun intended) on your teenage "hero" robs them of a lot of their mystique. Being old enough to appreciate the Roxy, Pistols and Clash references I found this very interesting. His story about getting on his bike to get the Roxy Music record was similar to various of my own quests to get DD rare singles or latest releases! I also agree that downloads has harmed album art.

  • well.. you Twitt A LOT now John .... hahahahahahaha XD

  • YaY, great to see John speaking at my Alma Mater. Go Bruins!

  • Im gonna play this when im going to sleep.

  • is he getting bold?

  • Still so handsome.

  • Ha tyrp11 u said it, & as D2 fans we kno they eventually forgo that immense restrictive power 4 the unlimited potetial of light, it wouldn't make a good video otherwise!

  • @kndheart77 I think he was speaking on more of a "sign of the times" movement. Back in the day when I was wild about (DD) there wasn't half the exposure as now... magazines, concerts & late - night videos were pretty much it and we both know that noone's afforded the luxury of sitting still - but my, didn't that restriction keep us craving???

  • hmm.

I like what he said but not sure about that half time thing...feels like he didn't want to be there

  • @drylaundry No, he really was at half time when he said that. We gave each speaker an allotted amount of time and he stuck to it. And though I can't speak for him personally, I never got the sense that he wasn't enjoying himself. He was very gracious and friendly to all of us on staff and he seemed to be taking his small role in this event seriously. There was no phoning it in, so to speak.

  • It's always great to hear this man talk; he's got great view points, very thoughtful. Today's music is like fast food. Everybody is hooked on it but when you taste homemade food you can see the later is better. However, fast food is there right on our face all the time... pity. I love cooking, I love real music. That's my opinion.

  • I'm glad he announced that he is NOT on twitter/facebook/myspace. Now maybe all the stupid posers can get off the internet and leave him alone.

  • "there's immense power in restriction" - that really summed it up...

  • He's loosing his hair, poor thing...

  • @MissBelinda3675 He's 50 not 35.

  • Sorry, but what a waste of video tape and a podium. He says nothing of any intellectual value.

The world changes. We don't all work on farms growing our own food any more and we're the better for it. Now people can go off and train to be doctors.

He wouldn't complain that video killed the radio star (MTV made him as rich as he is today with Duran Duran).

  • Don't insult John Taylor, i bet it's only cos ur jealous of how hot he is. I think he makes some very good points. I love you John!!!

  • Sorry, but his points are completely redundant. If he's more attractive that me (I have no reason to doubt he is) then good for him!

  • It's not that i think that ur unattractive, i don't actually know what you look like, it's just that he is SO attractive that i can't believe that anyone could be hotter than him. I also think that his point about how people who download music from the internet do not appreciate the album art anymore are very good. I think he definately makes some good points!!!

  • It's not a good point because people still have the choice to download the full album. Before people complained that they could ONLY buy the full album. Now they can do either!

  • Are you just anti John Taylor?? Because I think ALL his points are good and you clearly don't. If you don't like him that much then why are you bothering to watch him on YouTube?? Can I also say that think that John is one of the most beautiful men on the planet and I think he especially looks gorgeous on the 'A View to a Kill' video and on the Power Station's 'Get it on (Bang a Gong)' video.

  • I'd never even heard of John Taylor. I'm watching it because I write about issues regarding music and copyright. You mention Duran Duran's video. If you remember they were one of the biggest MTV bands. I don't think John was complaining that video killed the radio star. That was change from buying albums. I'm happy you find him so attractive but the guy should think harder about his views on music.

  • I'm sure he does think very hard about his views on music and also i never said that John was complaining that video killed the radio star.

  • John complained about the Internet changing music. MTV changed music too and many complained for similar reasons but I doubt he'd complain about it.

  • I think you didn't got it right. John agrees that internet is great but it kills creativity. I don't think MTV changed music that much or perhaps it did for a little while but now MTV isn't that powerfull.

Anyway, the point here is that now it makes no sense for an artist to release b-sides, demo compilations, or live albums/DVDs when actually everything is in the net and very easy to get, even here on youtube,

  • and the fans getting everything so easily kills the appetite for exclusiveness or the magic that this things used to have.

Of course, like you said, the world changes, and what made us feel excited yesterday is not that relevant today, like most of the things in life that start to gain a nostalgic value rather than being usefull.

The thing here is that fast information has its high and lows (more highs to me ), and I think John tried to say that the best inspiration comes when you are out of it

  • aww i love john taylor ;) (and duran duran in general)

  • ?????? Where's your guitar, dude? Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do doooooooo. He needs to do a two second "sexy stare" into the camera and flip the hair.

  • Great paper John.

I myself am a bit old school and much prefer to have a tangable copy of an album. The artwork and the lyrics give you the full package. But on the flip side the internet has given us a huge resource to acess music and information. And a instant connection with others around the world ,via email etc. instead of snail mail.
