  • This song reminds me so much of Crowded House, I wonder if they had any influence on HD.

  • Saw a couple of Almost Live alum in here, Bill Stanton and (I think) Nancy Guppy to say the least. Very cool to see local talent in the video.

  • Yep.. I'm working today too.. Hotel and Motels are always open. :-/

  • @stangcrazygirl And I thank you for that.

    I love motels.

Lived in them, died in them, loved in them.

    Pretty sad, huh?

  • @JohnnyChicago lol...

  • Listening to this at work on christmas. This song makes it bareable.

  • @smorgies45 Sorry. I really feel sorry that you have to work, but then... where were you going to be if you weren't?

  • My Christmas song every year lol

  • I forgot Aaron was in this.

  • @flokatirug Who?

  • @JohnnyChicago The bassist appears at the end of the video.

  • @JohnnyChicago Aaron's the bass player - you see him at 5:15

  • @flokatirug Still one of the more upsetting, depressing and truthful songs about Xmas ever made.

Especially since I lived there in the early 90's.

Truly horrible in it's memory-inducing wonderfulness.

  • @JohnnyChicago I don't know if you care about live versions of this, but there are a bunch.

  • This song reminds me of my first job and being so broke that I would volunteer to work all the holidays...

  • hahahahahahahahahha at the dog, joinning the party! HAHAAHAAAHAHA

  • @programmingbill I hate to say this but there are many many websites online that have uploaded their many EP's and bootleg stuff online for easy searching and download... Yeah, you might have seen that too, and all I did was Google them... check it out... good luck!

  • there's an artificial tree.... This song makes me cry:(

  • Awesomeness sometimes takes me by surprise! This is one of those times!!

  • This song (and many other great ones) are available at zero cost from the bands website. It's the last track on Dead Sea Scrolls. You should grab Little By Little as well since it is gratis.

  • dude from seattle, and wanted to embed and share. ... . . this is great

  • @petrolhead1845598 A wonderful quote by Orson Welles, or was it Hunter S. Thompson, or was it in one of the countless fatalistic movies like Children of Men?

    Either way, it's still true.

  • Does anyone need a taxi in Las Vegas on Christmas? I'm available. Hmmm. Sucks.

  • paranoia paranoia every one is coming to get me juat say you never met me!

  • best Christmas song EVER!!!

  • Picture Taxi Driver Travis Bickle writing songs - without the guns and the racist paranoia...

This would be what he'd write.

The fact that these guys totally got it right (Christmas in general sucks, but working on it only makes it worse) is a testament to humanity, and how religion and loneliness can crush one's spirit.

  • hmm you rhymed the word open with.....open now that's some song writing genius right there.

  • One of my favorite local bands. Where was this song released?

  • Is the guy who asks 'are you guys open today' an Almost Live alum?

  • In '04 I went to Seattle, from NY for the HDanger reunion show, a friend took me to the theater...I think it was near the Jack In The Box

  • Wow. The Grand Illusion is run by volunteers now. I wonder if anybody there works on Christmas now.

  • Well, if anyone in the Seattle area is looking for something to do on Xmas, I say we all go there and go viral on their ass and sing the song in the theater and post it HERE!

    Any takers?

  • @JohnnyChicago YES!!! no joke. msg me for my email. Christmas Next year- let's do it!!

we can look like really depressed carolers and sing this in the lobby or right outside. it'd be so awesome!!

or maybe anytheater. like AMC lowes at the alderwood mall. that place is a friggin CATHEDRAL!!!

  • The EP is so hard to find now. I'm glad I got a copy while I could. One of the most criminally underrated bands ever.

  • you can download most of their unrealesed stuff on their fan site, search for Hardly Dangerous on google

  • Danke.

  • GREAT song!!!

  • great video...so true.....and so sad

  • Man, I wish I would've seen that last year, when I was living alone in that same neighborhood of Seattle and working on Christmas. What a bitterly funny video.

  • These guys really remind me of early Treble Charger... and that's a good thing.

  • i swear i heard subliminal messages

  • About what? What could they possibly try to slip in - something like "life is good, vote, pay your taxes, love yourself and everyone"?

Cause baby, this ain't a happy video...

Maybe that's why I like it so much.

  • hahaha idk what the subliminal messages are about are about but i hear them at 3:50-4:06

  • Lol its just lyrics reversed I think

  • working on christmas really sucks

  • Doing anything on xmas sucks -

If there's no family or friends around during that time, forget it.

  • Could Harvey Danger do wrong?

I have nothing yet to prove they can.

Love the band, love the video.

  • I loved the Merrymakers Album (Yeah, I still say "Album", I'm old so deal with it). I had no idea that the band remained together after that. Now I'm going to have to look it all up on itunes.

  • yeah... not like that so much anymore.

    and unfortunately, they rarely play.

    (really, really unfortunately)

(when they do, it's AWESOME (not to brag (Okay, a little)))

  • Well, who are you to know this?

Clue us in, where do they play?

Hmmm.... methinks me smells a rat?

  • New Year's before last, they played The Crocodile in Belltown, and this past New Year's (or thereabouts) they played Neumo's, on Broadway.

They play sporadically, here and there, but... dunno... seems really widely-spaced.

    What do you mean, 'rat'...?

And who am I to know this??

    A fan.

    Who lives near Seattle.

    (simple)

  • pwned

  • these guys make me wanna move to seattle just so i can see them live

  • Beware - it's an overpriced wasteland full of Kurt wanabees in flannels with emo faces but without the makeup

When I was there in 1985-6 in the Army (and later in 1989-90 as a civilian) it rocked, but now?

    Feh.

  • This is one of the best rock Christmas songs of all time, and one of the best Harvey Danger songs, to boot.

  • I love Harvey Danger. I really do.

  • I like this song...

Sad, pathetic, just like my life was when I lived in Seattle back the early 90's.

    They got it right.

  • One time I had to work on Christmas taking luggage off airplanes at the airport. The shift manager bought the crew bottles of Kahlua and every drop of it was drank before the shift was over.

  • so THAT is where my suitcase went...
