  • KONY 2012

  • @rshimtheman

    NO

  • how bad is it if the board "Boes" a tiny bit from a cpu cooler pressure?

I installed a after-market cpu cooler on a 4400 (old one i know) and it just kinda plugs into the cpu-cooler sockets on the motherboard, tighten a few thumbscrews and it added a bit of pressure on the board, not to break it or anything, just a tiny yet elongated curve. Still fitted inside a case perfectly though, nota bene.

  • So wait, that little strip of thermal paste is enough to work properly?

The last CPU i installed (mind you it was an Athlon 64 3400+) needed coverage over the whole cpu (spreaded with an old credit card or something similar) so therefore this puzzles me. Would you care to elaborate on this, please?

  • @mrhenky42 the H100 already has some thermal compuond

  • Give now.

And yes I will post this on every single one of your videos until you give me computer parts.

  • @RefleX525 Is that supposed to be funny or is there something inherently wrong with you?

  • Man, I was having so much trouble figuring out how to mount that H100 on my X79 mb. I watched half a dozen videos, including Corsair's own, before I stumbled on yours. I am so grateful that you left the first part in and then showed the corrected procedure.

I absolutely would not have installed this correctly without you. I wish I could give you more than 1 thumbs up. Thanks a million.

  • the H100 has its own thermal compound. Why add more?

  • Geek porn! :D

  • Thank you for this. My newly built LGA2011 was instantly shutting down after my H100 installation. Now I see that the documentation wasn't as clear as it could be. Here's to running a $700 3930K on air alone.

  • Which board did you used?

  • 6:20 dramatic gopher face

  • @LinusTechTips i have old h100, if i upgrade to LGA 2011 can i use the old one with the new pegs?, my brother has a new h80, with 2011 support but he doens't have LGA 2011, is the pump system the same so that i can use the h80 kit on the h100...

  • whats Military Class ?

  • @iinadir yes class III

  • mais comment le prix de core i7

  • 100 euro

  • I am not sure I like how he applied the thermal paste. I prefer spreading it to ensure all of the contact area is covered.

  • how much does that cpu + mobo cost together?

  • Black PCB is bitching yo.

  • I almost made the exact same mistake with the pins - you saved my butt! Thank you

  • is the thermal paste that comes pre applied ok to use?

  • @fizzlefofizzle I've heard that it's best to get some premium brand thermal paste. It's super cheap, like $12 for the best. Get something like "Arctic Silver". Very cheap, but SUPER important to use the best you can!

  • @Samouflage ok thanks :)

  • hmmm that looks more like a vagina to me 0:56

  • @Asadullah21 what kind of weird vaginas have you been looking at? :/

  • BTW I would recommend washing your hands with soap or wearing gloves as well oils from your skin dont clean easily

  • I hope your hoop earrings get stuck in a 2011 socket

  • lol my friend just told me to throw down the cpu in the hole, looks like i was lucky haha.

  • @TheCameltotem Linus knows all too well about getting cpu's shoved in his socket bet his husband makes him wear those earrings too lol

  • What is the FSB on this CPU??

  • @THEKINGBG1 he never said what CPU it was, if you can get your hands on one id snag a 3930k great processor for the buck but intel seems to be staggering the release since the big brother 3960 is nearly double the price for a negligible performance boost (they claim its to fix the stepping VT-d issue. Make sure you get a c2 if you plan on any virtualization

  • lol was wondering why my cpu kept over heating >,< watchin this vid fixed me problem, am also using x79 board. Thanks for the info : ]

  • or you could just buy an ESD kit. i got one at radio chack for 30 bucks.

  • man I love when you correct yourself thumps up to that

  • @vargasmongo Are you going to correct yourself as well? For spelling "Thumbs up" completely wrong?

  • I don't know that I'd trust just the top plate holding on that much weight. I'd rather use a back plate and use some custom standoffs.

  • @timramich

I have an H100 and the cpu block does not really weigh anything, maybe if you where user a Nocture or a Dual Fan cpu cooler. But the h100 weighs nothing.

  • Do you also need to Buy a Pump or Just install the H100 and The Radiator?

  • @fshlps teh h100 is AIO watercooling kit, so no need 2 buy a pump..

  • @Deathangelus86 Thanks

  • Do u have to change the backplate if you use the Intel High Performance Liquid Cooling ??

  • how to install cpu into your mother >> board xxxx hahaa

  • I will get mine when the GTX 650 comes out

  • MSI is the best mnfr. imho. :D

  • does this work with another corsair water-cooling kit?

  • @MrTRISTANCOOL This is the way you install a cooler, doesn't matter if it is water cooled or air cooled, just the one for liquid cooling is a bit different.

  • sorry for my noob question , but is it normal to hear Squeaking sounds when i'm pushing the the "delta" or ECG shaped latch ?

  • @DrGM818 yeap

  • 1:00 looooooooool

Linus: "looks like ,huh ...... looks like that xD"

  • I thought I was the only one touching the power supply case of a PLUGGED IN PSU.

One question though, you don't spread the thermal compound around? I always figured it was like icing on a cake, putting a nice even layer.

  • @rvandell2 Tightening the screws does the perfect job for you ;)

  • I thought the h100 had thermal paste pre-applied?

  • @airedbaloni yeah but is he gonna use a new h100 everytime he does something?

  • @Chuvakvad fair point =p

  • I like how at 2:23 you redefine 90 degrees.

  • @HEN000y actually that probably is 90 degrees

  • @babygravy696

It's 45 degrees, go back to math class.

  • @HEN000y it does have a 90 degree bend

  • @nottinmatterz2day That isn't 90 degrees..

  • @HEN000y The lever goes 45° to the left, 90° to the right and again 45° to the left to go straight again... So where's the problem?

  • I only have H70,this H100 is very long !

  • I thought you were suppose to spread the thermal paste? you just put a little line like that?

  • @ColdToiletSeats i always spread the paste to!!

  • @ColdToiletSeats The thermal paste spreads in a much better and even way if you put a small amount in the center (depending on the size of your processor) and then placing the heatsink.

  • i think you like playing your games with motion blur maxed because this video is full of it

  • @halo56822 the video had resampling due to his editing software, that's why.

  • wish i had that kind of money.

  • what motherboard is that??

  • @shotingstars In my opinion 1155 is better for pricing and features. The 2011 socket doesn't support Intel SRT for example and their also nearly twice the price at present. Don't get me wrong, their excellent CPUs but socket 2011 is only being supported for this 'tock' cycle.

  • which is better ? Intel LGA1155 Core i7 or Intel LGA2011 i7?

  • Я в шоке! 6 минут расказывать о том как поставить процессор, это для каких дибилов видео?

  • what will happen when you put the cpu backward? just wondering. :/

  • it was kinda funny because i new you were doing it wrong right as you showed the back plate

  • THIS MAINBOARD IS A DREAM *-*

  • @Thestupits What board is it?

  • а размазать пасту?

  • @wiryc36 Пасту лучше не размазывать, так как пузырьки воздуха остаться могут. Лучше в центр немного налить и кулер сверху.

  • very good!!!!

  • 1:14, that's what she said!!!

  • @MrUrbackup he would say for the build of the motherboard

  • Don't you have to spread around the thermal compound on the cpu?

  • That's really a very helpful video, Linus! I was wondering whether I should use the backplate that comes with the H80(or H100) on an LGA 2011 MB. Thanks for posting the video like this one and others more!

  • Why no more PASTA Cpu? at 2:50 !?

  • LIINUUUUUS!!!

  • 5:26 Linus found new LGLA 2011 SOCKET!!!!

  • can someone please tell me why you need a backplate, and if you could send me a link of a video or forum on how to install one

  • @TheJimmyman888 the screws for the cpu cooler screw into the backplate holes

  • arent u supposed to spread the thermalpaste over the whole surface of the cpu?

  • @makro80 no. it will eventually seep over the edge and a bunch of air pockets will instantly form within the paste.

i did the same thing once and the core temps on my cpu skyrocketed; good thing i didnt let it sit and cook for hours

  • Lmao I made the same mistake this morning with backplate.

  • Once touch at the beginning is better than nothing, but if you are really worried about ESD (and you should be!) you should maintain contact with the ground as much as possible.

  • linus this is how to install the 2011 ;) by intel watch?v=LJR86B24ZYY

    ahahhahahahahah

  • do u not use the backplate on just the 2011? i used the backplate on my core i7 1155 chip. will that work? someone please let me know.

  • Comment removed

  • Could have saved the edit if you read the directions.

  • Comment removed

  • its.....big.

  • wht kind of mother do u have

  • about the thermal paste; did you do testing with the amount of thermal paste to have the correct amount? doesnt the h100 come with thermal paste on it? thanks

  • @denizg6 yea it comes with paste on it but he used it before so he had to wipe off the old thermal paste, the pad that comes on the h100 is really good btw

  • its pinless just like 775?

  • FOR ANYONE WHO USES THE ASUS RAMPAGE IV EXTREME, IT IS DIFFERENT THEN THIS BOARD, BUT STILL USE THE X-SOCKET BACKPLATE DO NOT SWITCH IT!!!

  • NEVER.LEAVE.A.PAUSE.

  • the jews are the problem

  • You didn't turn it on, how do we know you didn't screw up.

  • @Hatterific you word if you know any then abut a computer.

  • Who buys a CPU like this one would definitely know how to install it .. I don't understand why every channel doing this "Installation guide " ??

  • Why not smother the thermal paste around the cpu?

  • wtf is happening with the comments on youtube???!!!

  • Hey, Linus. I know that the gaming is what drives the hardware market these days, but I was wondering if you could do a show where you put together a system for music recording engineers. Currently, most people in the first just go out and buy an Apple computer or a product from one of the PC makers specializing in this market (ie. Sweetwater's Creation Station and MusicXPC), but I feel like someone with knowledge of tech could really do so much better in that end.

  • can you do a benchmark of (asus gtx 560 ti sli vs gtx 580)????

  • @LeftLegFilms 2 560ti's in sli would kill a 580 single card(I assume thats what you want to compare).they would prob be about 50% faster at least

  • @lazimofo90 sweet! im getting a second 560ti tomorrow!

  • @LeftLegFilms this is the WORSE TIME EVER to buy a new graphic card 28nms are right around the corner..

  • @warmaxxx well i have 1 asus gtx 560ti and i am getting another one so i have already broken the eggs!

  • @lazimofo90 the 2 560 ti's dont "kill" a single 580, maybe 20% or so faster with a lot more heat generated as well.

  • @lazimofo90 ehh no

  • i got a question: since this Motherboard has a different backplate than the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme. Do i have to use the same procedure and i am using the H100. Please someone reply it would help a lot. :)

  • but not using the back plate is new news thanks linus

  • it actually says on the h100 install guide in the corner it shows the prop pegs labeled 2011 just noticed on the instructions after this video was released

  • look at this prehistoric technology from 42 years ago.

  • 42 years ago? Lol whut

  • @TheSpaceman1200 Lol same here.

  • @TheSpaceman1200 lol wtf i got the same too... if only...

  • thank god it makes a satisfying click.

  • y is the video laggy

  • Hey uys, i have made a new channel and we do the same thing linus does. If you wud kindly drop in for a look and maybe a sub, it would be genuinely appricated. and if we get enough subscribers we will do a giveaway.

  • Do you not need to spread the TIM around on the CPU first then?

  • @iProfGalactic Oh and I was using Antec Formula 5.

  • @iProfGalactic I've tried it both ways...spreading the compound evenly dropped my temps from 40-45C to 30-35C XD just saying lol

  • Today I had a dream that I got inside Linus' house and "borrowed" this test bench...

  • nice guide...

  • i thought yu need to spread the thermal compound??

  • I dont think that amount of thermal compound is enough for this beast

  • I love how Linus isn't shy about when he makes mistakes and doesn't edit them out of the video. Just one of the many reasons why he's the best at tech reviews!

  • @NARtardd

he did it to show it's easy to make this mistake.

  • @NARtardd : Anyone can make a mistake, it takes a real man to admit to one. I agree with you 100%, this is one of the reasons he is the best at it.

  • Hi, do you know anything about the Raystorm with the rampage IV socket 2011 board. I got both the board and the raystorm but the raystorm did not come with the right screws despite the fact it says it supports it. I am in the process of ordering the Fix set for the raystorm but also noticed they give a back-plate for the raystorm that works with 1366 and 2011. would this only be if you for some reason did not wish to use the motherboards back-plate using the motherboard's sounds much easier.

  • 12 people wish they had this in their macpro

  • Thanks, you actually made it possible for me to set my x79 rig.

  • UNBOX THE AMD 7990!!!

  • Thanks for the heads up on the backplate and screws dude, I just bought my new 3690x and H100.

  • @mccarthy86 dude me 2!!! i'm getting it on thursday! and i got my asus rampage IV extreme board.

  • the h100, would this be good enough cooling power to take a 2600k to 4 ghz?

  • @robthatguyx Why would you overclock an I7 2600K.. You must be using an integrated GPU to overclock such an amazing processor, no need to. I can think you'll use it for gameplay, games start crashing at 4.0GHZ and 4.4 Up no game will work for you.

  • @max124891 actually im goign to be using a blackedition r7970 ;) and i decided to drop fomr i7 to a i5 2500k it wil be clocked at 4.5ghz

  • @max124891 it's a processor that's meant to be overclocked, and games don't crash at over 4ghz, what are you talking about?

  • @TheCaNin3 Games do crash after 4.5Ghz or higher i tried a i7 990 to 4.6 a fx 8159 to 5.2 games wouldn't execute for me ;/, Tho that overclock is amazing for editing programs.

  • @max124891 i'm running a 2500k at 4.7ghz and i'm not having any problems at all.

  • @robthatguyx Easily... you could properbly get it to 5+ Ghz.

  • @robthatguyx too much the h100 is not needed for the i7 2600k to 4ghz my air fan custom one does fine at 4.4 ghz with like at to 147F max

  • @robthatguyx

lol, i get mine i5 2500k to 4.7ghz on air "thermalright ultra 120 extreme" push pull confg

  • @LordNikonPL What voltage did you need for that.

  • @crimson177

    i was 1.5V for 5Ghz and 1.45V for stable 4.7

  • @robthatguyx I run 4.5GHz 24/7 on air, bro. H100 is more than enough cooling power. My cooler is the GeminII S524.

  • @robthatguyx yea

  • @robthatguyx you'll be lucky to get 3.5

  • @zach1912XD idk theres 4-5 people that have gotten 4 on on 212plus with push pulls and even more who ive seen with this h100 push pull tha have 4.5

  • @robthatguyx It was sarcasm, the H100 will take a bad chip to 4.7 and a good chip to 5.1.

  • @zach1912XD oh, sorry then its hard to tell over youtube :) ill have a push pull config with it

  • @robthatguyx u can do that with stock cooling

  • @robthatguyx It would be good enough to 4.5-4.7 depending on what the vcore is.

  • what's that board? thank's.

  • @MrDualtek I think the board is a MSI X79A-GD65 8D, Linus did an unboxing of it... :)
