  • I have a 13" MacBook Pro (2011) and since I installed Parallels Desktop (I need to use some Windows programs so I have no choice), it takes aproximately 1.30 min. to turn on :S

  • my $600 pc starts up faster :P

  • you should commentate football

  • what song is this?

  • nice job on turning both macs off and starting the iphone timer at the same time.

  • You selling your '08 Laptop?

  • not cool my 13" 2008 boots up in 23.25 sec noob gta life FAG!

  • Hahaha you weren't even using a watch

  • i just got the 15.4" macbook pro 2.0 ghz and its show as fuck. When i watch videos on youtube theres major lag? wtf? anyone have the same problems

  • Nice. I love that track in the background as well.

  • Knowing that you said this was what you had to deal with in terms of boot times, but if you really wanted to compare the performance of these two machines you'd do a reformat on both to get to the actual bottlenecks aka the hd transfer speed/cpu /bus speed.

  • It seems as though with time technology is improving

  • Great Vids as usual DRBUK! I wanted to ask what's the name of the track that was playing in the background?

    Thanks!

  • @buufahad no real details, a fellow subscriber made it for me to use in the video ! pretty cool aye ! i will talk to that person if i can send it to u..k ?

  • I know this is just for the sake of it lol, but I never got the whole "how fast does it boot!" thing, especially for Macs. I just sleep mine and reboot once every week or so or whenever there's an update that requires it.

  • With an SSD (I'm using 120GB Vertex 2), the shutdown time is like/almost as fast as turning your mac to sleep, crazy speeds.

  • There's a fundamental flaw in all real-world Mac shutdown/log out procedures. In that if there's an app left running you get a message showing "The application [usually Safari] cancelled Log-out" even though beforehand you get the usual "Are You Sure?" warning messages. Hopefully Lion will sort that as it's a potential security hazard, and very poor show on Apple's part.

  • @MarkPMus Are you aware that windows now does the same thing, its a feature, so you can't accidentally log out without saving your stuff first. If you're worried about security watch your computer to make sure it logs out.

  • Try going from a 21.5 or 27 inch iMac to a MBP!!! Its impossible. Larger screen space definitely makes for a more enjoyable user experience.

  • Very nice machines there, DRBUK.

  • the new one has smaller trackpad?

  • @onraj9mm nope exactly the same...should be bigger if anything, but rumours point to the 2012 macbook pros getting a much bigger trackpad...tbh this one is big already but i want it bigger lol

  • @onraj9mm It's an optical illusion because there is more empty space around the 15" trackpad? That's my guess :)

  • @nickgalena im trying for 240GB Vertex 2 SSD, as my MBP with mac osx 10.6.6 i think got TRIM support

  • @DRBUK you got to enable trim manually in snow leopard

  • I'm more than fine with the new 13" MBP. Too much $ for the 15"....I just don't understand the "BIG" jump in price.

  • SSDs are still continuously being improved upon so the tech doesn't reach the mass consumption point. So SSDs are made in smaller batches that makes them expensive.

  • @igeekone yep couldnt agree more ! bang on !

  • @igeekone plus "economies of scale" i guess..

  • Do you have the same startup items on both?

  • @masterm1k3 yep, turned EVERYTHING OFF, apart from istat menus

  • @DRBUK nice and fair comparison then. Good job. Are you selling your old one?

  • @masterm1k3 not sure, i mean i kinda want to just for money purposes, but its kinda useful to have a second good mac around just in case...only tempted to sell it as i wouldnt mind a MBA lol but not sure yet..

  • @DRBUK Sell the MacBook and get a 27" Cinema Display with it. You won't regret it, especially for all the video editing you do. Either that or an iMac, but I think I remember you saying you're not really too keen on desktops and prefer notebooks... or was that someone else I'm thinking of? lol

  • is the 15 inch alot heavier than the 13inch? i'm gonna buy one for uni but not sure which one, i don't want to carry around a brick on my back lol

  • @redlightning18 ye its is heavier but just a little bit more, i travel a lot and i can see the extra weight but man its worth it, i cant go back to 13" screens now lol

  • @redlightning18 I'd recommend 13". Fits much better into any bag and you'll notice the weight savings if you're carrying it around all day as well...

  • Is the one on the right the 17'' or 15''

  • @ooProduction 15" MBP

  • @DRBUK It look quite big for a 15'' tho! i'm trying to sell my mac g5 to get a laptop to be mobile so any1 want a g5 at a good price let me know please.

  • im thinking about upgrading to 8gb ram on my macbook pro, what do u think?

  • @lumani12 been ages since i seen a comment from you lol, like years lol...id do it ! i mean its so cheap these days, and i experience very little issues when im doing heavy multi-tasking compared to when i was on 4GB ram...ive got a video on ram upgrade soon ! ive upgraded to 8gb and done bench mark test so ye..coming soon !

  • @DRBUK ahahah i know man i have not really commented that much on your videos but iv watched them all, and i have been following you on twitter too. you finally got me to get my first apple machine a couple of months ago lol. glad to see you're still doing your thing on youtube too!

  • In Germany is part 1 locked.

  • @sondostc yep seems to be the case, im gona try and put the video up on a different video loading site liek vimeo and put a link up in my third video, ill try that..

  • That took forever on both.... MBA ftw! :) Nice vid tho. More macvids please.

  • @horapa lol oh ye i know and in 6 months im sure the 2011 mbp will slow down too ! i am planning on getting an ssd but man jus not sure of storage size, i mean 240GB is what i can afford but man just tooooo small !

  • @DRBUK True, SSD’s are too expensive atm. I mean they have been around for quite a long time by now and they should be affordable. The thing is when you go SSD, you can never go back. I bought the late 2010 MBA and I was truly amazed by its performance. My workhorse pc (HDD) feels like a snail in comparison.

  • @horapa SSD is wayyy cooler BUT just seems way too expensive for such small storage at the moment... Upgrading an SSD on this thing would cost $400 extra and the storage would be a lot less... For just 10 seconds faster on boot up and 2-4 seconds faster when starting apps is just not worth for me it at the moment

  • The first part was blocked for me :(

  • @shaliq6077 ye for some reason the rights to the music, allowed many countries but not germany..so i managed to get music in this video which was made by a subscriber ! thanks to Kavi who went the music in !

  • I'm excited

  • 1st wow
