Dawkins made some significant contributions to several fields besides popularization, including scores of other publications. His contribution to the 20 or 30 year conversation within biology between Gould, Wilson, and other leaders about the unit of selection are intimately familiar to any biologist I know, which is a good few. I still consult Dawkins in my research on evolutionary computation.

@MagicKirin I'm afraid I don't know anything about carbon credits so I'll have to take your word for it, but I wont concede that Al Gore is scientifically illiterate if that is what you are claiming. Many of his views probably come directly from Prof Revelle, who he studied under at Harvard, rather than keeping up with scientific literature as I'm sure few politicians do.
But this is all a bit off topic from Prof Dawkins. It is much more clear that he is an expert than Gore is literate.
Gore movie has been debunked by most reputable environmental people. East anglia academics need not apply.
As far as Dawkins my original comment was a shot because Dawkins who comments on a wide range of subjects some which he knows nothing about, is dismissive of other's credentials.
@MagicKirin Fair enough. On evolution he is an expert, but on physics, chemistry, philosophy, etc he is not. I think he usually admits his ignorance in these matters though.
