What a true and powerful song, even more applicable now than ever before. Not just in America, but all the nations of the world. We need God in this world again!!
"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise." (letter to Wm. Bradford, April 1, 1774)
"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries."(1803 letter objecting use of gov. land for churches)
@themelonbread Madison was a champion of religious freedom. He opposed the control of or interference in religion by the state because he feared the state would corrupt it or crush it. He wrote: "Religion flourishes in greater purity without than with the aid of government." We don't need the government to regulate or become involved in promoting religion. What we do need is a nation of people that recognize their need for freedom from evil and sin.
As a Unitarian, John Adams believed Jesus was a mere human, raised to divine status by God because of his unique obedience and morality during his time on earth. James Madison opposed executive proclamations that used religious language, and thought separation of church and state would benefit society. Thomas Jefferson originally wrote in the Declaration, "All men are created equal and independent. From that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable," instead of what we have now
BTW, Separation of Church and State is nowhere to be found in the U.S. Constitution, It states that our government will refrain from respecting one denomination over another.
I'll choose the principles of self-reliance, personal liberty and intellectual honesty over reliance on the supernatural, theocracy, and self-deception any day. Hail Satan!
I choose to believe this country was founded on the Bible, You fools continue to believe as you do and you will be joined in hell by your friends. You've been warned over and over, your choice. Good bye!
America was founded with a clear understanding of the need for separation of church and state. Read the Bill of Rights, the First Amendment, and consider the many writings of Jefferson, Madison, and Payne. Your religious liberty is only as secure as ours is... Keep it out of government!!!!
America was founded on the bible as its foundation. Most of the founders were born again believers and its sooo easily provable, but the wicked will not believe, like today is any different today as in the day Jesus walked on the earth, the wicked HATE truth, but Jesus still calls them to repentance and faith in HIM!
The irony is that many 'churches' today are not real churches. All it really takes are for 2 or more people to gather in Jesus' name to have real 'church'.
PS-I also want in response to my last comment on this powerful song that this is spiritual warfare...we wrestle not against flesh and blood. Only by God's grace and forgiveness...am I able to understand how much God loves and just wants to protect me from harm. I still struggle at times, but I have faith that God knows better than me. Lust happens, but true love is what God wants us to have to each other. Also, review historical facts & documents about US history. Beware of revisionists! Amen!
God is not playing games with America. Ironically, Carman came out with this song 'America Again' in 1993. Listen or better yet...read the lyrics. God is not playing games with America. We can go on a rant about someone's perception of this song, Carman, history...but it doesn't change the truth that our country is becoming weaker because we as a nation are rejecting our Christian roots. We are becoming more 'pagan' and we are reaping the consequences of it. Period!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
so i guess that when our founding fathers established the concept of "separation of church and state" they were just kidding. and the whole idea of the first amendment that prohibits the united states congress from making laws "respecting an establishment of religion" was a joke. okay. way to rewrite history. this song is idiotic. much like the many people who believe in its message.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't misunderstand the facts. "Separation of church and state" was not established by our founding fathers. That phrase occurs in one personal letter by Jefferson and is not in the constitution. The first ammendment was designed to keep the government from either mandating a state religion or interfering with the free practice of religion.
(part 2) In Wallace v. Jaffree, Justice Rehnquist presented the view that the establishment clause was intended to protect local establishments of religion from federal interference-- a view which diminished the strong separation views of the Court. Justice Scalia has criticized the metaphor as a bulldozer removing religion from American public life. (Wikipedia)
uhm, how about reading the whole letter that thomas jefferson wrote, or studying exactly what it means that congress cannot establish a state religion. way to go.
man just accept jesus was not black in fact he probably wasnt white either he was born in jerusalem so probably was more arab than anything and it shouldnt matter because jesus died for all men not just white not just black but for all and dont comment on stuff thats not in the song the song is about jesus being put back in america not all america has done wrong. so shut it
How sad it is that people viewing this video have chosen to condemn it for not containing African Americans, or criticize sexual orientation, or pronounce emphatically their religious beliefs.
GOD IS GOD - Follow His word and you won't be so hateful, follow His word and be forgiving.
Follow His word and be a caregiver.
Your God my God wants love and peace, not political assinations over ones beliefs
We can always expect people to take offense to the message of the cross. It is so powerful that it causes Satan to lash out against it. After all, he was utterly defeated by it! My prayer is that people will see only the love of a God willing to sacrifice His only Son for us all.
Why was a picture of a "white" Jesus shown on this clip? And these men are NOT MY fore fathers. My fore-fathers were in the cotton fields BUILDING America and being tortured by these men here. Thomas Jefferson had black kids. Read up! This clip is NOT moving...it is ONE sided. Explain why these great founding men drove the indians off their land. And now the Palistinians are being driven off Israel and America is supporting it, aaaaahh history repeats itself
DO you believe in the bible, because if you truly did, you would be so overwhelmed by the message of this song that you wouldnt say anything about the color of a depiction of Jesus, Read revelation, it has everything you need to know about what Jesus looks like
I love you Carman! I think there is still hope for America. We can beat back Islamists and kill them all. As Jesus said, when one strikes your check, do not turn your other check, but punch them out. This holy work can be done only by America. Also, hopefully we can remove the pigs from this nation. Literally, those who eat bacon are damned to hell, for Leviticus is clear that gays and bacon eaters alike will burn in hell. Carman, your voice rings clear God's voice.
Actually, that phrase you are referring to in the Treaty of Tripoli is not even found in the original Arabic version. Even if it was there, I would agree with it. Our government does not impose religion on its subjects. But it also is required not to interfere with religion. That's what makes the freedom of the United States so great. This song doesn't call for the government to become religious, but for the people of this nation to wake up and recognize our Creator.
Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Americans who never learned how to think. This is in error. our forefathers, especially the christians like John Adams who wrote in the Treatise of Tripoli that "this nation is in no way founded on the christian religion". Our forefathers wanted a government that stayed out of religious affairs
watevr u dont kno u wert ther were u.so no u cant say nething.but that is one reason y we did come ovr here so we can worship the lord.we do need god in america AGAIN.
What gives fundamentalist/right-wing Christians the right to impose their narrow version of Christianity on everbody else?
I guess I can expect someone who cannot spell or construct sentences with any semblance of proper grammatical structure to agree with the fundies. I bet you love McCain/Palin....you think that Palin needs more God..after all, despite her opposing comprehensive sex ed in schools, her daughter *still* got pregnant.
Very beautiful! I always cry when I hear that song.
