I know this Brazilian lady who decided to move back to Brazil with her little girl some years ago. Not long after they were back in Rio her little girl was kidnapped and held ransom :( They got her back though :) so that's the good thing. They were one of the lucky ones.

I know this happens everywhere and not just Brazil but Brazil has a reputation for Violent crimes for a reason. So watch yourself In Brazil and I'd say if your foreign don't go alone.

@mevitorino ..You are right of course....But let's be sincere... When it comrs to violent crimes .. Rio and the other big Cities in Brazil are among the worst... Rio has 6,000 murders a year which means 500 a month.. Now you can't argue with that..... Other than that..The City is certainly beautiful and People are generally very frriendly...But you have to be on the alert most of the time....

Im Brazilian and I think Rio is the most beautiful city in the world. Where you can find so nice landscape? Paris, London, NY, etc are beautiful cities too, but they were built by men. Rio was built by God.
