That is a common belief. I find it hard to believe she died, since those flames were actually the creation of her own mind. Just as Pyramid Head was created to punish James for his sins, the fires were Angela's punishment for her sins, there to torture her, NOT KILL HER! The only reason James got the more extreme punishment is because he actually killed someone (*cough*Mary*cough**cough*), and blocked it out of his mind. For this, he was to either repent, or die trying.

Yeah, I found that newspaper article in the game that clued to that. I found this out after I posted that comment, so yeah. Also, there is no ending where James is killed by PH. He defeats his curse, just there's an ending where he ends up killing himself, known as the "In Water" ending.

Nor does the town care when and if it kills you or if it has been fair about it. The town is an inherently impersonal (or incoherent) force.

Frankly I can't stand this rigid belief that supernatural forces necessarily care about human ideas of fairness and morality.

I never said the town was fair. I know it doesn't care if it kills you or not. I'm saying it was the person's own mind in SH2 that allowed them to see what they saw, and only them. And actually, you bring up a good point. Maybe Angela did die in the fires, but when the flames closed the path, she kept walking, and that's part of the reason why I think she was tortured, not quite killed yet. She was still pushing with nothing to back her up, so she probably died later without us knowing about it.

James, Angela, and Eddie all had a chance to own up to what they'd done, but they each chose, in turn, to reject the thing that could have saved them. Angela didn't accept it. She died.

I don't doubt that she died, just not at the stair case. She kept walking after the flames closed the path. Eddie was killed by James, not monsters, so he really didn't get the full extent of his punishment. James kills himself if you get the true ending of the game.

That's what I thought to, but after some research, it turns out that the ending that makes the most sense in continuing this storyline is the In Water ending.

in the scene of james and eddie fighting, james hears a loud bang behind him. unless this is just for kicks, it seems like silent hill is giving james the OK to off eddie, thus affirming that eddie "lost". whether angela won or lost is unclear though, but it appears the latter.

Actually, There's a lot of symbols that James now thinks it's okay to kill Eddie, for example, His skin turns a sickly green and his eyes turn red in the cutscene preceeding the battle :/

James skin turned green to. It was the smoke coming from the pipes. Note that the color of the smoke was that same sickly green. As for the eyes, everyone's eyes appear darker because of how the game was set up. Their facial features aren't really noticeable until the camera gets a close up shot. And I notice that the shadow on Eddie's eyes are the same shade as James. And that loud bang was Eddie firing his gun and James dodging the bullet.

Or put simply, she has a death wish and she's too far locked into her own head that she's beyond help.

The powers of Silent Hill are neither humane nor rational. "It" really doesn't care that James might've had a worse crime than Angela. (Even though Angela may have killed her father.)

The whole idea behind SH2 was that the characters were punishing THEMSELVES.
