The classrooms are beginning to get more than one autistic child and one is a handful. It is not only autism that is placed into the classroom. One child may go off begin throwing chairs. There is much on the slates of teachers. Before we began mainstreaming they should have been carefully moved into the normal classrooms a little at a time instead they were thrown in all at once. Money talks and the help is not where it should be. We need more help. I've been teaching over 30 years.
We are up against giants in Georgia. Powers that be have turned a deaf ear to thedeath in Georgia as innocent children are abused using inhumane seclusion and restraints. A child watched educators in a seclusion room as he pounded on door to go to bathroom, forced to urinate and defecate in the room. Traumatized ten year old licked the urine off the floor, as educators watched, smearing feces. District called guardian great-grandfather to clean room. We dont treat dogs like this. Sharon
I sent a video of my child being restrained to his office in 1999 (public school program at age ten years) At that time they were working on the regs for hospitals and facilities. After all this time they are working on schools THANK GOD
In my opinion Restraint and Seclusion should be completely abolished and parents should have the right to file criminal complaints on agencies/personnel that do this.
Rep, George Miller, Chairman Committee of Education and Labor has also taken a stand for our children. A hearing regarding R&S will be held in the latter part of Jan. This hearing will be open to the public.

I have given the school system a loving boy. He'll stay loving too if he is nurtured and taught with accommodations. However, if he has to suffer from the systemic abuse of peers, teachers and paraprofessionals, I guess they'll just blame him.
Thank you so much for your work on this issue. It is important that our children be safe at school, and your helping to stop these horrible acts of prone restraint and seclusion will help. Ultimately, the training you advocate will be the end of these deadly practices.
Again, thank you for taking such a strong stand on this matter!!!!!!

Annam20 your comment makes me cry...
My boy is so sweet, it scares me to think about what could happen at school.

Be aware, be involved & show up unannounced often! School systems need to start being charged with abuse for what they are doing to our children.
