  • This special was awesome - it needs to be on DVD. She is such a talent; she can sing, dance, act and she's absolutely gorgeous. And no one connects with an audience like Diana... maybe Judy Garland, but no one else holds a candle to Miss Ross!

  • @lb162001 I was praising blackies because of their ability to sing. Why r u calling me sick?

  • miss diana ross was no backstaber,it was her jealous back up singers mary and flo who did the stabbing, diana ross with her voice and star power gave them fame and wealth beyond there dreams they should of been gratefull to her,and guys check out the supreme diana ross and her amazing solo back catalogue, you will be amazed better than anything she did with the supremes, loooooove miss ross the supreme diva and icon of all time.

  • Although I believe most of her best work was with the Supemes, and that Diana Ross is a backstabber who cannot necessiarly sing, but put on a good show; she makes you want to watch her. I don't like how she treated the Supremes, but I tell you one thing, if she came to Baltimore, I would be the first to buy tickets just to watch her move around on stage.

  • Diana, this is my theme song, because "I'm Am Coming Out!" Sing Diana! The words are true for my coming out celebration after 40 years of pure hell! Living the #1 Lifestyle!

  • What a powerful diva

  • She sings so good, PETA forgot to be mad about her coat.

  • Blackies sing so bloody well.

  • @SilkwormMissile You are sick. Praying for you.

  • The opening was BOSS!!!!!!!!! Diva Style

  • I was at this concert / taping. Mary Wilson showed up with Scherrie & Freda Payne. Wilson was in red and wore a short, white, waist length fox tail coat. Then Miss Ross entered wearing a FULL LENGTH, WHITE, FOX TAIIL COAT. Just saying' . . . .

  • @MrsArabianGoggles much love to you im happy 4 you too

  • @warzone520 Homophobes and bigots like you have ruined the planet! This song would not have even existed were it not for gay men idiot! So says Nile Rogers, the man who wrote the song specifically for Diana to sing. As a result, she also became an even larger gay icon than before!

  • she desends to the sky!

  • i´m 23 and totally love this!!! XD

  • @warzone520 - ha. Always wondered if Ross meant this as anthem for coming out of the closet. Eh, good song regardless.

  • there is only one with this voice...Ms Ross ..what a voice~

  • We love you

  • What is amazing about Diana is at 67 she still puts on one hell of a show and her vocals are amazing for someone her age. I saw her Live in atlanta last June 2010 and she was just as exciting as this video singing The Boss. she opened the show with this song rising out of the FLoor. ..Leave it to Ms Ross to have and entrance! Had us on our feet cheering singing dancing and smiling...Lady Supreme turn the house Upside that Night. under the stars! a night I wont forget.

  • She is so dynamic..my all time favourite. So few singers that have come close to her music talents

  • ohhh Diana Ross is poetry in motion, just look at her swag!!!

    fucking goddess!

  • Classic La Ross!!

  • Nice! Oldie but good...

  • Her movements are nothing like her smile is about. She moves like a tom-boy so often. DOn't think its the heels awe, she just perfect.

  • 1979-1980-1981 was such a great time for music. And Diana ruled the world at that time... My favorite years are 1977-1981. Thanks for the music Diana!!

  • Might I ask y does it say guest starring Michael Jackson I just need to no hahaha...

  • @zaclover555 This was just the beginning of the program. Michael appeared later.

  • @Koach127 do you know a video tht like has him in the part

  • Arr Excellent !!!

  • @theMZA1995 - It was "I'm Coming Out" BEFORE it was "Mo Money Mo Problems.

  • Real music.

  • The woman was always in good voice in those days! SHE'S SINGING THIS LIVE PEOPLE! Simply REMARKABLE!!!

  • coming out of the closet? lol is this a gay song?

  • @Viruspirate Not a gay song - she's singing about coming out of her shell, which is what she was going through at the time...the song was written expressly for her based on her own comments.

  • @dav1237 Check out Nile Rodgers new bio.....he was in a gay club in NYC and had an idea to write the song in thinly veiled code....it worked..the album sold over 6 million copies...her biggest.even though she and Barry Gordy hated it before it sold like crazy..

  • always loved her. that is one talented, sexy lady!!!!

  • DIANA ROSS & WHITNEY HOUSTON ARE TRUELY THE MOST AWESOME GLOBAL FEMALE SUPERSTARS... "I LOVE MY PROMINENT QUEENS DIVA'S"!!!!

  • This is it feels when I walk into room...

  • Without Diana, Aretha, Tina, Dinah, Gladys, there would be no Beyonce, Rhianna, and Christina!

  • Love this it reminds me of highschool and when I ran for Homecoming Queen and sang Upside Down her music brings that all back to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • There will never be another like her! Diana just owns the stage!

  • Infact, if Miss Ross is here, touring around the world, after almost 50 years, it's just because she is the IMPRESS of music !

  • love Diana Ross, true SUPERSTAR, but this was obviously before PETA, some of the old stage costumes were so extravagant with the feather and sequins and fur and rhinestone, glitter and gold, they were definetly a sight to see

  • Puffy's producers must've been huge Diana Ross fans to have sampled nearly all of her works.

  • I love Diana. She truly knows how to work it

  • I was too young too experience this at that time and era. I love Madonna, but this woman is a Superstar...!

  • I despise Puff Daddy. Ross is one of the only real divas that has ever been. Beyonce? Spears? No no no. Don't be foolish. Think with your ears, not with your loins.

  • @Kurtiz76 even if you think with your loins, Diana is still the only choice. Beyonce, Ciara, all the other hoes look as if they have every std known to man, and their cooties are airborn!!!

  • @sheenanyc Bahaha!

  • GET IT GIRL!!!

  • Legend!

  • awesome !

  • @BMDubsKi true that

  • This is a real superstar opening;

    /watch?v=7SrR3zPrvVg

  • NO ONE in the last 30 years has come close to her elegance, grace, attitude, coolness, ...... I'm counting Whitney, Janet, Brandy, Monica, Beyonce, Rhianna, and more to come. Miss Ross is One of a Kind.

  • @morik1 you are comparing apple to organes...Ms. Ross come from a different era where artist were school on perfomance by big companies such as Motown, etc.. . The artist today do not get the same groming that artist in the 50 and 60's got from there record company and they are force to make there own way. I do agree that the artist listed dont have the same presence but you can't deny Whiney had a better voice then all of them including Ms. Ross

  • @skyiscrying53 There's something records companies, managers, art directors, producers, laboratories can't get for an artist: STYLE. Miss Ross makes a showstopper just by draging her fur coat. Watching her walking on the stage is a priceless show. Above all that she CAN sing with swing and STYLE! voice stands in a second place. We're talking about STYLE when it comes to Miss Ross.

  • YOUR MY BOSS DIANA!!!

  • Amazing lady. These new fake pop stars got nothing on her.

    SOUL: She has it.

  • I'm coming out...I'm gay!

  • @Nikes62 jajajajaja nice lol!! =)

  • is that fur shes wearing??????????????? OMG

  • D-I-V-A!!!

  • 1980 was an amazing year, however her career completely dove in the 80s though,,eclipsed by michael jackson for all the 80s and 90s..my music is on iacmusic.com song "ruminate" under alternative or post modern alt rock style categories/help me out!

  • LEGS!!!!!

  • wow!! what a costume.......beautiful!!

she really knows how to make a statement!!

  • At the alter of Nile Rodgers, everyone fall.

  • LOVE Ms. Ross !! Started way back with "Reflections", and I still love her. I am not gay, but have many GBLT friends, was a dancer all my life. Now I'm 67, still think Diana was very special, and her acting ability was never fully explored. She was sooo good in Lady Sings the Blues. So happy we can look back through her career via clips. How lucky we are.

  • I'm so proud that gay people have taken this amazing song as their liberation song. African-Americans have given so much strength and inspiration to different groups. We deserve to be celebrated as the soul of this messed up world.

  • Todo un espectáculo verla en su mejor momento...Y escucharla en la película Maid in Manhattan, es grandioso!...

  • LOVE the bass line!

  • I was 13 and although I had herd her early Supremes stuff I"d never seen her live until I saw this in 85 I think.Anyway Ive seen her many times live now and she always entertains and makes each performence special.

  • i love this song

  • love theis lady

  • how this many ppl not like this!!!

  • I ABSOLUTELY love Miss Ross! I'm 51 and no matter who else I listen to, I always come back to Diana. She is my core in music and I have loved this woman since I was a kid.

Her music has painted the landscape of my "Coming Out" age. I met my late partner 1982 (One Shining Moment) He was diagnosed in 1995 ("Lets Make Every Moment Count") And after his passing ("The Best Years of My Life")

Thank you Miss Ross for still bringing me pleasure in life when it is difficult to find these days.

  • @rickfromsf very touching :) all my thougts are with you

  • @fontenayperi

Thank you for your kind words.

  • @rickfromsf We are a lot alike. I am also 51 and Miss Ross has also been a constant in my musical life. Her glamour, beauty and sophistication spoke volumes to a gay boy from Ohio!

  • @heykbt

and she STILL speaks volumes to this gay boy (yeh, I wish) in San Francisco

  • I've read a few of the post below... maybe I'm partial due to being name after Miss Ross and maybe not! I did not start preaching until young adulthood..., point and case, I had no great mentor or seminary. I started late but I was born with it! Diana was born who she is, certainly is no comparison to any other, she's loving on her children & grandson. As with Michael Jackson, when she dies her legacy will live on. Anyone realistic knows the party must come to an end some time; and life goes on

  • Diana Ross is just outstanding when performing. She sings these same songs over and over again and each and every time it's like she's singing them for the first time. So new, so fresh, so sincere. No one can touch Diana Ross in live performance.

  • This really would be the best way to announce you were "coming out". LMAO

  • Love the girl on American Idol, Ashthon Jones, who worships Miss Ross!! I would die to see Ashthon and Miss Ross do a duet on stage!!! AMAZING!!!

  • I could rock that coat.

  • You have great eyesight, well done to you!

  • I watched that intro like 5 times, AMAZING!

  • there no better intro song!!!!!

  • Oooooh yes ain't nothing better to get stuck in your head than this! :D

  • destry beyonce? what drugs are you on?

  • 0:54 she shoves homeboy outta da way!!!!!!!!! hee hee

  • she gets the words mixed up at 2.50

  • What an amazing concert to be at! Im so jealous I was born in 86 ugh

  • People actually sang back then!

  • Is that fur??

  • @krroiss

Yes, it is the tails of about 100 arctic foxes.

It wasn't a big deal in those days, wearing fur was a sign that you had made it.

And boy had she made it to have that hysterical crowd waiting for her opening number and fabulous entrance.

Of course , it would be a scandal now, and rightly so, there is no need to kill animals purely to cut off their tails to make a cape.

It is still one of the all time spectacular concert openings in the history of show business.

    She's marvellous.

  • @doolie50

all i can see is diana ross with a bunch of dead foxes bouncing around on her

  • I love this Song

  • I LOVE it! My name is Diana and 40 years ago tomorrow I was born, named after the most beautiful and talented Diana Ross! I have lived a quiet and secluded life as a preacher of the gospel and it has been appointed unto me on this the eve of my 40th birthday to declare I'm coming out! Out from every shackle, the load of sin and shame, every fear, every doubt, every worry.... the very grave clothes that held me so tightly as unto death have been loosed & I'm coming out! Glory be to God!

  • @Dianastarofhope That's the way you say it sister! AMEN!!

  • @Dianastarofhope god bless you

  • @Dianastarofhope well gone are the days when song writers are glamoring to get her to record their songs. she used to be one of the top 3-5 female singers that got he choice of material, passing on countless songs. today since she can't get her songs played on Anerican raidio song writers have turned to the younger singers. she no longer has a record company behind her in the same way that a whitney houston does either.

  • @Dianastarofhope This was a beautiful message. thank you

  • @Dianastarofhope

and god said "you go gurl!!!!!!!"

  • @Dianastarofhope

You're spreading love, so there is no need to fear.

  • @Dianastarofhope CONGRATS DIANA,,,,,,,BE YOU,,,,THAT'S WHAT GOD WOULD WANT!!

  • @Dianastarofhope Sorry hon.. come on out but dont believe the whole god thing.. IT's all made up!

  • and now 30 yrs later she's still doing the same show, opening it with the same 2 songs... she needs some new material.

  • @whatigot2say

What would you suggest she opens her concerts with?

And who has new material at her age?

Tina, Patti, Aretha, they all have their hits and the crowd would kill them if they didn't sing them.

She opened with Take me Higher at Wembley in 2004 and it was fabulous but she left out The Boss entirely and the crowd were screaming for it at the end but she finished with I will Survive.

It was a sad end to a sensational concert.

  • @doolie50 yes yes, of course she would do her hits, but it's not impossible for someone to come up with a new song for her. she put all her energy and attention into a song written for her that was mediocre at best: i love you. actually it was a poor choice on her part to even record that stupid song. she should get rid of "I will survive" no one associates that song with her. it was a gloria gaynor disco hit that she un-successfully tired to co-op. she needs new material.

  • @whatigot2say

I agree with you about I will Survive, it's irritating.

But at every UK concert I have attended the crowd seem to like it and are up dancing, its baffling.

and you're right about I Love You too, I can't stand that but she does have some of the most iconic songs of the last 50 years so it must be difficult for her, someone is always going to be disappointed with the songs she chooses to perform at her shows.

she's always fabulous whatever she does.

  • That night she simply was on top of the world

  • I remember when this first came out.....every gay person in America thought this song was made just for them....lol !

  • @BLKJEW01 it is, that's what's funny about it.

  • @vangelinecstl lol wasn't it for claustrophobic people?!

  • Was this TV special ever released on VHS? I want it! Looks spectacular, even the crowds were great then!

  • @venika781 of course it´s real!

  • two of the greatest songs everrr!!! :D

  • I LOVE THIS SONG I GRADUATED FROM 6TH GRADE WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT TONYA1230@YAHOO.COM

  • 1.007 people are gays lol

  • @coldplay9982 lmao

  • I remember this tv special, wish I had a VCR at the time, it was a great miusical special, because around that time CHer had hers on NBC

  • The original Angel!!!! Wow what an opening
